1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

Driving in the passing lane of the highway my vehicle became unable to accelerate then decelerated rapidly. I made my way over to the shoulder in a panic as the vehicle came to a stop and would not start. The check engine light, oil light, and eps light up as the vehicle decelerated. Upon taking to my mechanic I was given a techincal service bulletin and advised to work with the dealership. Once diagnosed at the dealership I was told I need a new engine and it will cost $9,000; I bought this vehicle a year ago and still owe 5,800 dollars on it. I am aware of class action lawsuits against Hyundai for this issue as well as the fact that this vehicle was recalled in canada for the same issue. I am horrified at the lack of customer service and sympathy exhibited by Hyundai as I made contact with corporate about the issue. I cannot be the only one to experience this safety issue and I am lucky I was able to get to the shoulder safely. This engine should not have failed at 116,000 miles and Hyundai knows that though the appear ignorant to this defect when confronted.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2019

2nd owner, regular maintenance on car, no prior check engine light indicating a possible issue. Car just over 100k miles, stopped completely while driving. Hole found in engine block motor, appears to have threw a rod. Engine damaged beyond repair. When taken to Hyundai dealership, was not given a formal diagnosis of damage despite asking for cause of engine failure. Simply told new engine needed ranging anywhere from 4-10k. Hyundai declined to replace engine. Have since learned that santa fe's and sonatas within the same year range have been issued engine recalls. Beginning to think issues are related in reading other reviews on engine problems with 2013 Elantras. Wondering when this problem will be recognized as a potential recall.

Failure Date: 01/18/2018

"takata recall". I went in to find a car. Ran into my Hyundai Elantra. Ran great did my routine maintenance. Did all my routine checks. Now I'm having to fix or replace my engine do to not covered under warranty. 64,000 miles 2nd owner. I noticed the ticking when I pulled into my driveway with my children and parked, the tick never went away and not one check engine light or oil light came on. Now that this became an issue for me, I notice it's happening everywhere.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2016

Vehicle was stationary. Check engine light and lack of digital engine temperature gauge alerted driver to issue. Upon inspection at authorized Hyundai service center, it was noted that rodents had gnawed through wiring and connectors located in the engine bay. Per service center's recommendation, vehicle was considered unsafe to drive, and vehicle was left at service center pending appropriate repairs/replacements. It was noted that the wires that were chewed through were coated with soy-based materials instead of plastic which had been used in earlier models. Service center claims to see this issue at least a few times per month. Rodent deterrent tape is being purchased from Honda (who already acknowledges this issue and is current the subject of a class action lawsuit). Tape will be wrapped around wires following repairs.

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

I have owned my car for a little over 3 years now. I started having problems with my fob not unlocking my car. I would had to press the unlock button several times to unlock. Then I also started having problems with not being able to turn on my car(with the push start) because the brake pedal was really stiff. I had to press hard on the brake in order to successfully turn on my car. Recently I've had a check engine light come on sporadically. Sometimes the light comes on and off while during my drives in the city. Two days ago, I attempted to turn on my car and the car began to start, but continued to make the ignition start sound for several seconds--about 10 seconds-- than usual. This was of course not the norm, so I pressed the start up button to turn off the car. When I attempted to turn on again, it turned on fine with the check engine light on again. I went to pep boys and meneike to check this out and they said that I had a p2096 problem. This code was followed with the description as follows: post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1. Essentially I was told that the ratio of oxygen and fuel , the engine take is off. They thought it was a leak that would cause the lack of fuel going into the engine, but when they investigated it, they didn't find a leak. As of now, I don't have a real diagnosis for my car. I'm not sure if all of these problems correlate or have a domino effect on each other, but the issue will take a while to take care of.
