Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problems of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra - part 1

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was a loud ticking sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to woodhouse Hyundai of omaha (8410 s 145th st, omaha, ne 68138) where it was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the engine short block needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was over 100,000 miles and therefore no assistance would be provided. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

113,000-114,000 miles on car. Started making a ticking noise that sounded like it was coming from the top of the motor. Sounded like lifters or a hard knocking. Parked as soon as it started it and towed it to a shop. They said the ticking sound was more than likely from the piston assembly. They called it a piston slap. However upon taking the valve covers off they found the timing chain was slapping around, bent valves and a bad piston. Our daughter done all of her oil changes regularly and didn't hotrod the vehicle. She was also going slow up our driveway when it happened. No noise prior to this at all.

For a year straight the car has been shutting off on my while I'm driving on the street�s. This is very hazardous because it randomly happens. The car will just shut off as if it lost battery power while still in driving gear. When restarting the car it can sometimes take awhile because it will make a clicking noise like there is either a problem with the engine or starter for the car. When this happens occasionally the check engine light will come on.

Car chugged and shut off; waited and it started again, but since had ticking noise. Dealer is saying new engine needed; stated Hyundai is aware of the engine wearing out prematurely and Hyundai is trying to help people out if it is past the warranty by paying 90% of the cost. Hyundai should pay 100% if they are aware that it is a widespread problem. And they say it is going to take 2-4 weeks to repair.

My engine recently developed a loud ticking noise at 78,000 miles. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 15450300. The case was closed and no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Hyundai dealership has vehicle but as of date has not answered to replacing defective engine under a warranty.

When I was driving my 2013 Hyundai Elantra in January of 2018 a very distinctive clicking noise started to come from the engine, without any cause. After taking my vehicle to multiple mechanics, the problem was diagnosed as a faulty engine that could not be repaired. I have never had an engine fail on me before and I know that in some cases it can be very dangerous. I was fortunate enough to get my engine replaced without having the engine fail, although it sounded, and drove, like it was almost there. This problem got so bad that it wouldn't allow me to even drive on hills anymore because the engine couldn't withstand it. I only had this car for not even 3 yrs and this occurred. I took the vehicle to the dealership to diagnosis the problem 3/16/18 found that bottom end of engine making a knocking noise that engine and deteriorated into multiple pieces. At 57041 miles. It took at least two weeks for all the parts for the new engine to arrive,. Four months later 6/5/18 vehicle motion driving around with a cracked transmission and no check lights came on to reveal there was problems. It was brought to my attention when servicing my vehicle for an oil change, the transmission was cracked with fluid leaking from it at 60922 miles. The transmission had to be replaced with a new one. .

We are the original owner of our 2013 hyundia Elantra. Our car developed a ticking noise around 110,000 miles. We let the car sit for two months while we waited for money to get a diagnostic. The 14 of July 2017 we brought it into the dealer to research the knocking noise and it was returned to us saying there was not a problem. When our mechanic told us we needed a new engine we were confused. On March 6th 2018 after being told there was no problem the noise has gotten louder. When serviced again at the same dealer for recalls again was told there was no problem with the knocking. So we stopped driving the car till we figured out the problem, researching over the internet our cars engine was built at the alabama plant and now have found out the metal shavings has destroyed the engine. There is a recall for NHTSA 15v 568000 and numerous reports on the internet for the Elantras 1. 8 for the noise problem. We are confused why the dealership would tell us there is no problem when there is a huge problem in safety for my son driving the car, which we have not done so, and now the car sits in our driveway for fear that the engine will stall and we will get in an accident. What is hyundia motor company doing about this and have you heard about another recall for the 2013 Elantra 1. 8 engine series out of the alabama plant? please help and can you provide us with a complaint number.

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra as a new vehicle back in November of 2013. I recently decided to upgrade my vehicle to a SUV. After purchasing the new vehicle, my intention was to sell my old vehicle (the Elantra) to my fiance. Prior to completing the title transfer, I received a recall notice on the Elantra and brought it in to to have the recall work done on 2/3/18 (there were 96,631 miles on the car at this service). When I brought the vehicle in for the recall work, the car was making a slight ticking sound from the engine compartment. The dealership proceeded to complete the recall repair, and also inspected the vehicle. They informed me that I had some bulbs out and that I would need new tires soon. They failed to address the ticking noise from the engine. We proceeded with the title transfer on 2/7/18. My fiance decided to go ahead and bring the vehicle back in to walser Hyundai on 2/12/18 to have the ticking noise addressed. We were then informed that the car is in need of major engine repair and the cost of the repair would be $5,900. I inquired about the powertrain warranty which would cover such repairs up to 100,000 miles and was told that because we transferred the title that they would not honor the warranty. We would not have proceeded with the title transfer until the issue was resolved. I have reason to believe that the dealership neglected to address the noise because they knew what the issue was (this is a common issue with this year and model vehicle), saw the car was almost past the 100k mile limit for the warranty figured that by the time we brought it back in, the car would be over the mileage limit for the warranty. I did file a complaint/case with Hyundai and they again told me that they will not cover any of the cost of the repair.

Engine has a ticking noise.

The engine makes piston slap noise when outside temperature is cold around 50 or below fahrenheit. The engine will make loud clapping noise for about 30 seconds. There is a design flaw. Possible cause is piston skirt being to short causing side to side movement when cold. Hyundai is aware of the problem. In canada Hyundai has issued a bulletin to its dealers about the problem and has notified them to replace the engine.

The car died at an intersection in Dec 2017 after it just started shaking at a stop light. Eventually I was able to get the car started but it was locked in drive. I took it to a mechanic and the check engine light turned on and replaced the spark plugs; however, the engine had a ticking noise when I picked it up still when I picked it up. I brought it back to the mechanic and I was told it was something inside engine. So I could only replace the engine because everything they found was working and too much money and time to take apart the engine. The engine has continued to make a ticking noise as soon as I start the car and when I press the gas. The noise has got louder and with the warm weather, when I turn on the air the car is shaky.

My 2013 Elantra coupe se m/t started makeing a ticking noise while ilding about 55,500 miles, it now has 59,609 miles. Thought it was just because it was getting broke in. I have had reg oil changes. I have read that other people have had the same problem with there engine. It seems to be getting louder now that it has more miles. . My coworkers are able to here it now.

I took my car to the shop today because it had this horrible ticking sound in the engine. I found out a need a new engine.

In November of 2016 notice car began to hesitate and coming home from a drive the vehicle died in front of house. Took to Hyundai vacaville and they stated it was a computer problem. Update applied, drove home and noticed ticking from engine. Drove to work and noticed lower gas mileage and continued ticking. I took the car back to the dealer who said this time it was the fuel injectors and to put in cleaner. Drove home and then to work and noticed ticking getting louder. Took the car back to dealer and this time I was told that the engine needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, I was out of warranty and had to pay for it out of pocket with a re manufactured factory engine which was installed around 12/23/2016. Since then still notice a ticking with new engine after putting about 40,000 miles on it and concerned that I was provided with a bad engine again. I keep up with maintenance as I did with the first engine with oil changes every 3,000 miles instead of the the recommended 7,500. I have noticed many other complaints of owners of model year 2013 with similar issues. The failure with the first engine was at 127, 565 which I believe should still not have happened as I have a 2010 accent with 180,000 and no problems, and had several other vehicles that went beyond 200,000 with no issues. I noticed the ticking noise back then to be pronounced when accelerating up hill and with current engine usually have to warm it up so that when I drive I do not hear any ticking.
