Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Hyundai Elantra

My 2018 Hyundai Elantra went from 50 mph to 0 in seconds. I was able to coast to the side of the road. The engine shut off. The engine and oil lights came on . Car didnt turn over after that got it towed to my house and once there checkd the oil and the oil was completely empty. Received my last oil change on 1/31/2024 still had miles left over before getting another oil change. There was no warning or signal notifying of oil low or anything after speaking with service mechaninc they mentioned the engine being shot. There is not even 100,000 miles on this engine and it needs a new one. Contacted dealership they advised no recalls on this model. Hopefully adding another complaint can get the ball rolling so there can be a investigation.

While driving on the highway, engine light comes on and then car shuts off mid drive. Days later, tire pressure light comes on and stays on showing good pressure. The car doesn't properly shift gears. Luckily I didn't have an accident. I have a case opened with Hyundai, but unable to get diagnosis until March. Car hasn't been consistently operable since purchase 3 years ago, as you can tell by my mileage.

I purchased the car at a used car dealership. I drove it home and the next day the engine light lit up and it started to run rough. While driving it down the road the car shut down and I could not even get it off the road. I had it towed and they agreed to take it at the Hyundai dealership. After running diagnostic on it they told me I needed a new engine and that there was no recall and that it was not covered under warranty. After paying 9500. 00 for this vehicle and it dying leaving me stranded on the road. I have no vehicle.

While driving my car it just stops. I have been complaining to the local dealership for 1 year and they keep turning me away. My battery was replaced and that is it. I was told I was exaggerating that this was not happening. Yesterday was different from the other times it stopped. My car stopped on a busy highway and I almost ran off the side of the rode a cliff because the wheel and brakes locked up. No one is taking this serious. As I am driving the car will just shut off. The local dealership advised me to drive even further to get it fixed. How is this safe? I was told by rich its my car I own it its not their problem.

Back doors will not open. Called dealership and said there is no warranty to cover having them fixed and it will be over $1000 to have the problem corrected. Driving down the road the car shut off and started smoking. It says the car is on and running but it is not.

2014 Hyundai Elantra - when the vehicle is at low speed (under 30), and after warming up it shuts off with no noise, no warning it just shuts off. There was one knocking idling at a stop light just before it shut off. But for both my daughter and myself it shut off with no warning. There are no check engine or warning lights on, it is not throwing a code. The dealer has said there is sludge in the engine and that the engine needs to be replaced - in a 2014 with 145k, single owner. In reading online, there is a class action lawsuit open - brown v Hyundai where multiple owners have reported the exact same symptoms and dealer resolution but there is a know piston defect that is causing this problem. No TSB issued in us but they did in canada for the same problem.

After driving for an hour or so the car will shut off in the middle of a trip. No warning, just a quick engine shut off on the highway, which forces me to shift the car into neutral to crank it back up. The vehicle is in motion when this occurs, and it's a severe safety problem.

I purchase this vehicle in 7/2018 and had it for just over 2years and the vehicle started stalling and stopping then soon just shut down as I was driving. After getting it tow home and had a mechanic look at it. I was told the engine was bad and it was not fixable. I'm have a car I'm financing and can't use the care again. I have contact Hyundai for over a week now and no one have response. My case manager will not call me back on this. I have a case number and call everyday and all I get it rude supervisor who do not care.

When going at low speeds in traffic car shuts off after pressing break too much. Car shuts off in reverse. Car shuts off while making turns and hitting break simultaneously. Going over 60 mph causes car to shut off multiple times every few minutes or even seconds. (worst was 9 times in under 2 minutes) car shuts off slowing down to red light. Had car checked numerous times by mechanics. Noone can figure it out. No code comes up when plugged into computer at autoshop. Alot of other people have reported this issue with same make and model.

Takata recall on 9/23/2018, about an hour after a rainstorm (car was garaged during storm) my car was in motion at 40 mph in the left lane on a curve of a southbound interstate exit i275. The car suddenly went sideways, and began fishtailing. I tried to pump the breaks but they were not working. The vehicle then smashed the front side of bumper into the guard rail, and pushed me across two traffic lanes. The vehicle stopped in the right lane, facing north in a southbound exit. I tried to put it in reverse to get into the shoulder, and there was no acceleration. The engine had shut off on me while driving on the interstate. I do not know what failed the engine, or why it shut off. Hyundai corporate was contacted and they opened a case, and performed a full inspection. On 11/12/18 Hyundai claimed "we cannot agree that the accident involved a product defect and are declining any financial assistance. " a third party mechanic was then contacted, and found code c1555 and a failing vvti cylinoid. There is no recall. There is no way to prove this car is unsafe with the routes I have taken so far. I will not accept this answer. The engine of this car shut off and could have been fatal. It is also terrifying to think about who would to be blamed for such a fatal or dangerous accident since Hyundai "couldn't find any defect. " I asked for results of the scan and the case manager, christina replied that I am not authorized to see them, for "results are for proprietary use only. " this company needs to own up to their risky product!.

The vehicle was towed to local mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired and the vehicle was diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the head gassget was blown and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the isssue. The failure mileage was 236,000. Jw.

Was driving on interstate 287 w when the car shut down. There was no warning light. I had to quickly try to get the car to the shoulder. There was a burning smell when the car shut down. The Elantra was bought new and I only owned it for 5 months. I called aaa and they towed us to their gas station in NY. From there, another tow truck took us to the Mazda repair location, in NJ, which does repairs for the Hyundai dealer. They put oil in the car and then realized that there was no oil in the car. They stated we needed a new engine and it would take one month to order and install. Only two weeks earlier, we went to that same repair location for a 5,000 mile check up where they did an oil change. Nothing was wrong with the car. I am 88 and very lucky I knew what to do when the car shut down. I hope this does not happened to a new driver.

I have Hyundai Elantra . It shut down automatically when the car in the slow spped another problem is that its shows the wrong level for the heat meter.

When driving straight at 15-25 mph, in town, after about 25 minutes of freeway driving, rpms at or around 1250, the engine shuts off and all the lights on the dash turn on. Taking it into the service center, there are no codes in the computer. The timing cap has been replaced once, because they were able to duplicate the issue at the shop, but the last two instances they were unable to duplicate so they refused to fix it. The car has 61000 miles on it and is still under Hyundai's powertrain warranty.

I have taken it to the Hyundai dealership for repair numerous times. When I pick it up they say "its been repaired" but hours or days later the same problem occurs. I demanded that they void the purchase contract but Hyundai refused. I had to retain an attorney who recently filed a lawsuit against Hyundai regarding this matter (case # 15k14065).

Very dangerous: the vehicles shutsdown while driving without any warning. Dashboard blinks and engine shuts down causing lost of stering and power, slowing car in heavy traffic with vehicles behind. This has happened several times. Mechanics can't solve issues. On the internet, similar incidents have been reported by other Hyundai drivers . The cranksfat position sensor, idle contro valce, and in/out output sensor transmission are reported as possible problems. In any event is a very dangerous condition. Problem should be studied and reported. It happens not only to this model, but on other Hyundai vehicles.

Electrical system was still functional but car was completely unresponsive. Occurred again 800 miles later after "repair" both incidents nearly caused accidents.

There were two similar incidents on my 2008 Hyundai Elantra. The car shut off suddenly while I was still driving it. The lights stayed on, but the engine shut off. The first time was a few months ago, although I can't remember exactly. I was making a sharp turn when the engine shut off. The second time was a few weeks ago. I was going at a slow speed when the engine shut off. The brakes didn't respond, so I had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. I crashed into a bush.

During a sharp, sudden turn at about 40 mph, the car shut off completely. The car is a 2008 Hyundai Elantra GLS.
