Warnings Problems of Hyundai Elantra - part 2

A warning light frequently activate to demonstrate malfunction of the driver forward collision avoidance safety features. This was presented to the dealer for warranty repair. The same defect persists despite their intervention.

Forward collision system continually fails. This disables the vehicles cruise control. The vehicle has been in the shop multiple times with no resolution.

The forward collision or emergency braking system gets activated by direct sunlight. Almost every day I drive with the sun directly in front of me in the morning and the car can activate this system with no need when going 30 to 75 mph on the 405, an extremely busy highway. There have been many almost rear ends if I wasn't able to accelerate through the braking. This is a weekly if almost daily occurrence. The independent auto shop said it can happen but they have replaced break pads twice and I'm only at 60,000 miles.

I went to start the car up and all of the warnings attached popped up, along with losing my power steering. This is the second time it has happened in less then a year.

Sometimes the car will not start batter is testing good replaced it anyway same for starter and is alternator and still happens Hyundai dealership said they don't know. Now the car will start to break on its own saying something is there even when in open parking lot by yourself with nothing or any one around. After that started now the trunk will open when driving down the road if you are home and unlock the car the trunk will open 3 times before staying closed and as soon as you pull of up to 3 minutes it will open back up even when doing 70 on the interstate just pops open have took batteries out of key fob and still happens.

Twice now when starting the car all the driver safety systems will show a warning that they are not working and the message is that the car is not save to drive. A bunch of warning signs will go off and the wheel locks. The brake system has also locked up. I captured it on video, but it won’t let me upload it here.

In the middle of crossing the verrazzano narrows bridge in new york city, the forward collision warning came on and the braking system automatically engaged repeatedly. I was traveling about 30 mph and had about 4 car lengths between my car and the one in front. The system kept engaging no matter how much room I put between myself and the car in front of me, and as I was in the middle lane of a bridge in heavy traffic I could not pull over. I always keep a good distance in front when driving, but because of the system inappropriately engaging I almost got rear-ended about four times. I was terrified and this continued to happen until I got off the bridge. I use my car mainly on the weekend, and also travel this bridge almost every weekend and this was the first time this happened but it was terrifying and extremely dangerous!!!!.

My car does not have forward collision warning or lane departure warning. But sometimes it will randomly pop up and the screen and cause my breaks to abruptly stop and almost crash. This has happened atleast 8 times and the car was bought brand new in 2020.

The forward accident avoidance system repeatedly cuts off the gas and prevents the car from moving even when there is nothing that could be considered a hazard in front of the car. It leaves me stranded half way through a turn in an intersection or the entrance to a parking lot. The gas pedal is disabled until the computer decides that it is safe. The service manager at the dealer says there is nothing they can do as the system is extremely sensitive and they get a lot of complaints about it. To be left in the middle of an intersection as the light changes and cross traffic starts or to to be stopped halfway through a turn onto a road with approaching traffic is not safe.

The steering wheel locked up while driving with cruise set driving my rpms went to 8 had no control over the vehicle ended up crossing three lanes of traffic hitting the side of the road going down the hill into a ditch.

May 2019 vehicle went in had the steering column replaced due to a rubbing sound coming from inside the vehicle every time steering wheel was turned whether in town or highway or parked. Nov 2020 crash avoidance system activated while stopped at a light no one in front of me at the same time noise started coming from the front of the car (rattling) when turning left and when hitting bumps, it was determined that the motor mounts had become loose damaging the lower control arm, struts and after tighten they became loose again needed to be replace. This took them month and half to find the issue as well as replacing the crash avoidance system. The car still does not drive correctly nor does it align properly only slightly off in the front but way off in the rear. Since picking the vehicle up 2 weeks later the steering column is made a pop sound and has started making the same rubbing noise when turning. I bought it new no accidents to date. Hyundai is repurchasing the vehicle. Very slow process not to mention concerned with the steering wheel locking up as seen here.

Tl the contact's boyfriend owns a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the forward collision avoidance system activated independently. The contact also stated that the forward collision avoidance warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to mitchell Hyundai (1600 e. Park Ave, enterprise, al 36330) where the service tech stated that the dealer tag may have caused the issue. The contact disputed the claim. The failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,700.
