Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra equipped with hankook tires, size: 205/55/r16. The contact stated that there was an air pressure leak in the tires. The vehicle was taken to dick hannah Volkswagen of portland (12345 e burnside st, portland, or 97233) where all the tires were checked, but no leaks were found although wires were seen protruding from the rear driver's side tire. The contact decided to have an independent mechanic replace all four tires. They mechanic also noticed an alignment failure that would cause the tires to wear again with a possible blowout if left unchecked. The contact left a message with the manufacturer to call him back. The contact will give them a return call after speaking with NHTSA. The vehicle failure mileage was 35,511. The tire failure mileage, dot number, and tire line were unknown.

38 Wheel problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Takata recall. I bought this car from the original owner in 2016 around the time a recal for it went out and I didn't know until today. My car sometimes takes two times to actually start. I turn key and have to either hold it or stop and do it again. My car hydroplanes extremely easily compared to other vehicles. Normally it is only a second besides the time I rear ended someone with no bad weather then another while it was raining and I lost complete control and thank god no one was around me and I am used to the vehicle so I could gain control again truly a miracle. Other smaller issues I ignore.

40 Wheel problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

The low tire pressure warning lights came on as I was driving down the highway and my tire pressure was displayed as 14 psi on my back left tire. I pulled over and looked at the tire and it didn't seem low. I plugged my portable tire air pump in and attached it to the tire, and the gauge on the pump said 36psi, which is what it is supposed to be at. I got back in my car and started driving, and the car said the psi was back to 36psi. Sounds like this is a common problem and Hyundai needs to address it. I even took picture of the warning when it came on for proof.

41 Wheel problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/30/2019

More often than not, the steering wheel will virtually lock, only allowing me to turn the steering wheel 2 inches, with increasing difficulty after that range in either direction. Making sharper turns literally impossible without having to harshly tug the wheel only effectively moving the steering wheel another 1-2inches with each tug. This goes away when turning off and on the vehicle, and has been happening for over a year now. The power steering light and traction control light both come on as soon as it happens seemingly out of nowhere.

42 Wheel problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

Brake lights keep intermittent working and burning out. Steering wheel makes clicking noise. Keep having to replace tires in front. Even after alignment, car still pulls.

43 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Stationary vehicle with oem hankook tires developed severe sidewall cracking, necessitating replacement. Warranty would not cover replacement as they would not cover tire damage when vehicle not in motion. Dealership said they would attempt to contact manufacturer, and would reach out if a partial credit was available. No word at this time.

44 Wheel problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/16/2019

Engine has trouble starting or stalls often. Was told to replace whole engine when I went in awhile ago due to issue of starting, noise and oil leak. Tpms sensor I think is shot to every time I fill up air it still suggests issue with tires. Windows also get stuck down or up.

45 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/19/2019

I have a 2017 Elantra sport. I check my tire pressure monthly, but noticed this last time that I lost more than the normal 1 or 2 psi. After visual inspection, both front tires have deep cracks around the majority of tires. I did some google searching and found recalls for the ventus s noble 2 back in 2016. I tried calling my local dealer, but they have not been much help, referring me to hankook. I called the hankook service line 800 426-5665, it just rings and then transfers to a voicemail that is full, and cannot take anymore messages because the mailbox is full. My tire is a hankook 225/40/18. I read online how these specific tires can cause blowout when turning even at low speeds. This is my daughters car she uses for work and college. I want to be sure she is safe as any parent would want. Although, I don't seem to be getting anywhere with either Hyundai or hankook.

46 Wheel problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/02/2019

I purchased this vehicle back in January of 2019 & when I purchased it the steering wheel made a clicking sound. I mentioned it to the car dealer & was assured it was nothing. After having my oil changed I was told my steering column needed to be replaced. This is quite disheartening as I have had the car for just one year & a half at this point. I was told to research for recalls in relation to this particular issues as it has been reported for other vehicles of the same make, model & year. I am afraid my car steering will go out while driving.

47 Wheel problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

One tpms sensor failed December 2018, now the other 3 failed in the span of the last 6 weeks. This is an important item. How do you know if the tire is really low when driving, other than a visual or an air gauge. I'm not the only one with this problem. The first time I was driving, on the last 3, the code showed on start-up.

48 Wheel problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

The tire pressure monitoring system consistently indicates low tire pressure on 3 of the 4 wheels whether stationary of while driving at any speed. Manual checking of the tire pressure indicates the tires are at correct pressure. This problem first began while in warranty. Hyundai dealer did a repair. Next time it occurred, the car was out of warranty and dealer wanted a large amount of money to replace the sensors and monitoring system. This problem has been noted on this site for this model. I understand there's actually a recall on a similar model. Please investigate.

49 Wheel problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

Since buying this car my traction control light has been coming on. It is happening more and more frequent. It is causing my car to slow down without me using the brakes by as much as 10-15 miles per hour. At this time I'm not sure if my break lights are staying on.

50 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

Drove car less than 20 miles round trip on city streets, for a morning appointment. Was parked about 40 minutes during the appointment. Returned home and parked, no problem, no tire pressure problem indicated by sensors. Departed on second trip of the day less than 6 miles from home for another appointment, parked for about 50 minutes. Tire was completely flat in parking lot afterwards. Tow operator placed my spare tire on, we visually inspected the falt tire and there was no visible damage to tire or rim. I drove vehicle to nearest Hyundai dealer 3. 5 miles away. Dealer service department inspected tire and rim with me again, same conclusion no visible and no apparent damage. Service department dunk tested the tire, no leak detected. Tire was re-inflated and placed back on the car. Drove 2 miles to home and parked. Less than 2 hour later tire was completely flat again. Tire is on driver (left) side rear. Valve stem is snug, no apparent problem except that tire no longer remain inflated. Tire and wheel rim are dealer/manufacturer original equipment. Tire is branded as nexen npriz ah8, size is 205/55r16 91h.

51 Wheel problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

Some whistling noise is coming from the left front wheel, my vehicle is brand new and I found the issue when the mileage is at 17 and when I was driving at freeway at speed 45 mph or higher.

52 Wheel problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Tire pressure sensors and/or tpms module problem. I purchased this 2018 Hyundai Elantra from san tan Hyundai, gilbert, az 86297 in late March 2018. The tire pressure in each of the 4 tires was 36 psi, the cold tire pressure for this auto. In the first week of August 2018 the tire pressure warning light on the dashboard came on . I checked the the tire pressure in each of the 4 tires with a analog and digital tire pressure meter and the pressure in each tire was about 32 psi. I re- inflated each tire up to 36 psi (spec requirement) but the warning light stayed on. I notified Hyundai headquarters customer service about the problem and they assigned a case number and suggested I take the new auto with only about 1500 miles on odometer to san tan Hyundai. I had to wait about 2 weeks for a oct. 18,2018 appointment. The tire warning light turned off just before my appointment, so I canceled the appointment. On 12-18-2018 the tire warning light came on and stayed on after the 4 tires were re-inflated again from 32 psi up to 39 psi. There is something wrong with Hyundai's individual tire pressure sensor and/or tpms module on my new 2018 Hyundai entrant. When each of the 4 tires are re-inflated to 36 psi,the dashboard tire pressure indicator light should turn off. I have made another appointment with san tan Hyundai but what I here from customer service it may cost you dollars to fix this problem instead of indicating that it is covered under my new car warranty. This is why I am reporting my problem to NHTSA. On line reports indicate that this may also be a problem with other Hyundai Elantra vehicles from previous years.

53 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

~tl the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet express. The contact stated that while stationary, the propane bottle in the vehicle became rusted and corroded. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. Ad.

54 Wheel problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

To whom it may concern: it grieves me to escalate this concern to the national highway safety administration. I have attempted to seek resolution with Hyundai, but the corporate office is unresponsive and ignorant to the safety concern. The problem lies in the defect of the power steering coupler on Hyundai Elantra models that affects tires, steering, balancing, alignment. The manufacturer is aware of the defect and has either repaired or reimbursed owners of Hyundai Elantra for the defect up to 100,000 miles or 120,000 miles with extended warranty. I purchased the Elantra at 89,000 miles and inquired about a noise in the car. The dealer ignored it, and the carfax did not have any mention of the defect. After two sets of tires, 3 alignments, and additional repair, I began to wonder after, several tires blew during my drive after loading on the groceries! how can the tires with 50% life left--all of them--blow on the road? there is nothing mentioned in the manual? sadly, during my several visits to Hyundai dealerships (both in tampa and orlando), nobody at the dealer mentioned once about this issue?! finally, the local mechanic where I replaced the tires indicated about the coupler issue. I reached out to Hyundai's corporate office and was informed to repair and will be reimbursed. Well, I repaired the issue upon discovery at 122,800 miles, but Hyundai is refusing to reimburse for the defect of their issue. I wrestle to understand how this is not a safety issue when the tires blow up on the road, several sets of tires must be replaced with alignment and additional repair? I wrestle to grasp that Hyundai does not inform buyers in any way of the issue, and the dealers are silent on the issue. How is it possible? after hours of spending time on this issue, all that I would like is the reimbursement of $340 I paid to fix the defect of the car. This is not my fault!.

58 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

I purchased a brand new 2017 Hyundai Elantra ex car off the lot that came stock with all nexen tires. Within the first couple of months, under 2000 miles, I noticed the tire looked like the rubber was shredding and saw sidewall bubbling. Had to pay for a new tire when the original tire had hardly any use. A couple of months later, we noticed a bubble on the rear tire, took it in to goodyear, another barely used tire was defective. While my son was driving on the freeway, a couple of weeks later, he got a flat and the whole sidewall was separated and damaged, the 3rd defective tire. Yesterday, while driving in the neighborhood on our way home, a blowout in the last of the nexen tires. Literally a hole in the sidewall. This was a new car, with new tires. All 4 manufactured tires on the car were defective. Thank god we were not killed on the freeway or harmed anyone with this hazardous brand of tire. This tire has failed, all four new tires failed. 2 images are attached. Two failed on the highway, two failed on city streets. Shame on nexen for not recalling this tire yet. I've called nexen warranty but had to leave a message.

59 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

I have had a ton of issues. My blind spot sensors only work occasionally. (I actually know someone else with a Hyundai that is having the same problem). Additionally, sensors go off at random. I have had the warnings for flat tire pop up multiple times when there was no flat tire. One of the tones my steering wheel actually locked up and I was unable to drive. I have also had issues with my radio screen and the radio playing. My push to start button also has issues. Sometimes it will not turn the whole car off. They replaced something in the bottom but it is still happening. Today it actually had a hard time starting. This has been happening since I got the car. I've had it less than a year and it has been to the shop a couple dozen times. This happens at all times both when I'm moving and not moving depending on the issues. It has also happened when I was driving slower and faster. My screen has also frozen and I have been unable to use it. Both in motion and parked. P.

60 Wheel problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Bought car brand new, from dealer. All 4 hankook ventus s1 noble2 tires exhibit cracking and separation on sidewall of tires, inside hub and external. This is not ozone cracking. Dealership determined defective tire based on maintenance records, visual inspection and tire care. This issue is identical to one described in previous hankook tire recall from January 2016, except for tire size and dot. Hankook tires want to issue partial credit. Tires are unsafe for use as dealership mentioned one pot hole and a blowout will occur.

63 Wheel problem of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/29/2018

Was not given the opportunity to test drive on the highway upon purchase. When I took the vehicle home and got it up to highway speeds the vehicle floats, or sways left and right like its out of alignment. Hyundai has told me unfortunately that is just the way the vehicle rides, this is not acceptable because I feel that is a safety issue. If you add wind in the equation it is a constant fight the keep the vehicle straight or in its lane. Drove 650 miles plus to get this resolved and no resolution has been met. The vehicle seems to sway and float more on paved highways, black top is a little better but still the same. I was given a loaner Elantra same year and the same issue.

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, I was preparing ti make a right turn on merrimac Ave in norfolk va, on my way to church,, when I heard a loud screeching noise and loss of steering. A car with no occupant was sitting to car spaces from the corner and my car struck the car. 67 Wheel problem of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

My passenger right front tire hit a curb and was flattened. The car was towed to the dealership for repair. Both front wheels were out of alignment, so it was suggested by the service department to replace both front wheels and have them aligned as well. They gave me two options for tires. One option which I chose was the solus ta-31 2204733. Both front tires were replaced and aligned. The following day I drove approximately 17 miles to work via highway. In the afternoon, I drove 2 miles to get lunch. While sitting in the drive thru window, I heard a loud noise and realized that the driver's side tire (opposite tire) had blown and the notification light went on the dashboard. It was a matter of 4 seconds for the tire to go completely flat. The car was then towed for the second time within 48 hours to the dealership service shop for repairs. Realizing that this could have occurred on the highway while driving home and traveling over speeds of 60 mph, I then knew it was a safety issue and that new (1 day old) tires should not just burst. According to the representative at the service shop, the bead wire had separated from the rim to allow air to escape. He did mention that he would have to send the complaint to the tire manufacturing company (kumho) for compensation and that it may take up to 4 months. He mentioned a few other tires on his desk in a similar situation. Had I been traveling at highway speeds, I feel that the situation my have been much more serious.
