Backing out of my driveway and my van started making a loud thumping noise. I was not able to go forward or in reverse. Looked underneath and found the driver's side lower control arm corroded and disintegrated, and the axel had come out of the transmission. There was a recall in 2014 for corrosion but all they did was spray something on that was supposed to protetct it. It did not work. If I had been anywhere other than my driveway it could have been an extremely bad situation as I lost control of my steering. I had it towed to the dealer today and they want $878 to replace the two control arms (with after-market parts).
My wife was driving with children in the car and right hand side suspension control arm snapped in half. Car was able to be driven home but wheel was pushed up against the wheel well.
While turning left at an intersection, I heard a loud bang and lost steering control. I pulled over to the side of the road and called for a tow to my mechanic. The passenger side front wheel was displaced, the 2 front wheels were not parallel and the wheel had hit the front bumper cover causing it to come loose. The tow driver noted that the lower control arm snapped. Front passenger wheel was hitting the front bumper cover as it was pulled onto the flat bed. I called Hyundai corp and local dealer on following day (Monday). I tried to get direction regarding inspection of vehicle. Since an additional tow could cause more damage; I asked if Hyundai could inspect at the local shop. I could not get any direction on how to get the car inspected. On the 3rd call I was advised that safety recalls are only covered for 1 year after the recall service. When I asked if I needed to contact NHTSA, jack indicated that since I mentioned NHTSA he is required to pass the case to a sr Hyundai representative and that I would receive a response very soon. I have not received any return call or other communication from anyone at Hyundai corp or the local dealer. The attached pics show the front passenger side lower control arm corrosion and failure. The recall service performed in 2014 was obviously not adequate. The sudden loss of control was a horrifying feeling. I am hopeful that NHTSA will take appropriate action so that others are not continued to be put in peril. I understand there have been numerous other occurrences of lower control arm failure in vehicles that were serviced under the recall. Note that my vehicle was serviced for the recall at freehold Hyundai shortly after I received notice.
I feel that something as important as a lower control arm on my 2007 Hyundai Entourage shouldnt rust and break into in 11 years when the ball joint is still in good shape.
Vehicle in motion and van out of control related to the corrosion of control arm. Children (3) in the car. Recalled 2007 and 2008 vehicles! why not mine? live in nebraska with salt-infested roads and this van has many issues! my VIN number not associated with the recall which is completely unfair. Have put so much money in this vehicle which will not run. The dealorship wants to charge me 2700. 00 to fix their error in manufacturing! not to mention the tires, electrical, latches! I paid 29,000. For this vehicle and it is the limited edition, the best they offered. They have made so much money off of us and do not stand by their vehicle. My mom was killed by a faulty airbag that should have never of went off! I am so angry as well as broke. Why or how can this even happen? what can I do when I have no money left as well as a vehicle? they find every reason not to fix. I need help, not sure what to do next or what my options are.
While driving approx. 30 mph (moving straight; not turning) a noise was heard, the front of the vehicle seemed to drop, and both steering and brakes became erratic. The van, still acting up, made it to a parking lot, where a visual inspection of the front driver's side wheel well indicated what I believe to be a broken control arm (see photo). This is a known issue with this vehicle, and late in 2013 there was a recall (# 13v556000). Vehicle owners were advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for and inspection and either rustproofing or replacement of the control arms. On 1/20/14, the vehicle underwent this process and reported "inspected, waxed, and undercoated as per campaign" (see excerpt from invoice). No damage to the control arms was reported by the dealer's service shop. Had I been informed of a damaged part during the "inspection", I would have chosen to replace it, as this is apparently vital to keeping control of the vehicle. Over the past several weeks, I have done a lot of highway driving. Had this happened at 65 or 70 mph, rather than at the 30 mph in the city, the outcome could have been disastrous. A police officer showed up to help and took down my name - I do not know if a formal report will be filed. .
2007 Hyundai Entourage. Consumer writes in regards to front lower control arm and frame corrosion issues. The consumer stated the rust issue has been going on since the vehicle was three years old.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. While driving 30 mph, the front driver's side control arm fractured. The vehicle was previously serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 13v556000 (suspension). The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the cause of the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
We received notice of the recall of the control arms on our 2007 Entourage in December 2013, and immediately took it to the dealer to be repaired. They inspected and "rust proofed" per the instructions in the recall; however, that repair is not sufficient. Yesterday, while driving on a residential street, one of the control arms completely snapped. While it's inconvenient for us to be stranded 3 hours from home and work while our van is being repaired, I'm more concerned that it could have happened while driving on the interstate today, where we could have been severely injured or killed, and possibly have injured or killed someone in another vehicle on the road if a crash had occurred. The only fix for this should be replacement of the control arms.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. While undergoing routine maintenance, the independent mechanic advised the contact that the front lower control arm was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. Prior to being notified of the corrosion, the vehicle was remedied under NHTSA campaign number: 13v556000 (suspension). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. The contact had received a manufacturers recall on the corrosion in which they coated the frame of the vehicle. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v556000 (suspension), the dealer provided coating as the solution from the manufacturer, which caused a failure. The contact experienced the front driver side control arm and the front passenger side control arm fracturing shortly after the recall repair. The contact has not yet been referred to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they refused to provide a solution and indicated that the vehicle would need to be repaired by a dealer. The failure mileage was not available.
The purpose of this letter is to request NHTSA to include 2008 Hyundai Entourage vehicles from the state of virginia in the agency's recall and repair authorization, NHTSA campaign number 13v556000, components suspension, and/or front lower control arm corrosion, dated November 06, 2013. I am the original owner of a 2008 Hyundai Entourage, purchased in the state of virginia, with the exact mechanical problems delineated in the agencys recall and repair notice and authorization. Although I lived in virginia, I worked in washington, DC, and traveled extensively in the salt belt states of maryland, new york, pennsylvania, and washington, DC, as noted in the agencys recall and repair authorization. Critically important, the state of virginia has the exact weather conditions as west virginia. To include the state of west virginia in the recall and repair authorization and not virginia is nonsensical or preposterous. 2008 Hyundai Entourages from virginia have had as much exposure to the corrosive and harmful impact of road salt and water as other vehicles designated in the agency's recall and repair report of November 06, 2013, campaign 13v556000.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. While driving 55 mph and getting off an exit ramp, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, pulled to the left and became out of control. The vehicle crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The driver and passenger were injured and transported to the hospital. A police report was filed. The manufacturer stated that they would send someone to inspect the vehicle. Prior to the failure, the vehicle had not been repaired on the front suspension and steering mechanism; when the contact went to pick the vehicle up, he was told that the tie rod, ball joints and control arm were also replaced. Other parts needed to be repaired but were on backordered. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
