4 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2016

Takata recall about may 2016 airbag dash light and passenger airbag light malfunction, dash light stays on, passenger airbag light does not recognize passenger. Took vehicle to dealership on 8/18/16, and was diagnosed that "problem due to a makeup bag wedged under passenger seat causing poor contact at connectors. " within 4 days, airbag dash light and passenger light were malfunctioning as initially described above. Took vehicle into dealership on 9/8/16 for same problem. Dealership did a pods reset, a recalibration as I understand it. Airbag dash light and passenger light worked for 24 hours before they malfunctioned again as initially described above. Further communication with dealership has been to inform me that the "OCS mat is $2473. 50 plus $312. 50 for install. That's the whole seat. Hyundai does not offer it separate. " this is a known problem with the airbag system. This is not my bill to foot, it's Hyundai's. In the meantime, I don't know if I have airbag protection.

Air bag light is always on. Dealership found code b1495. There was a recall for this part , for this year on other Hyundai models. Dealership told me it is the same "belt tension sensor unit" on all these models. Why is not the sante fe also included in the NHTSA recall number 09v-497? thank you.

9 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2014

Airbag light is always on, as well as my check engine light. All doors do not always lock on their own, pushing lock button on keychain twice does not sound the beep to ensure doors locked, car alarm goes off randomly, fuel gauge does not work. All of these have been recalled by Hyundai but for some reason, my 2007 with less than 90,000 miles is not covered.

10 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Air bag light came on and will not go off. Also, yesterday my check engine light came on and the fuel gauge stopped reading my fuel level. I have 90,100 miles on the vehicle today. Since I purchased the vehicle, my headlights are very dim. I am not sure if this was ever a concern for other models.

11 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

5/14/14 31,509mi air bag light remained on after multiple ignition off-on cycles. Dealer followed directions in bul. 07-090-003. Code b1332 was shown but "not definitive". Code was erased and airbag light has remained off for 2 days. At the outset, dealer rep said there would be a 119$ charge for diagnostics (out of warranty). I objected strenuously because of the low mileage, airbag safety importance, and 2 previous unexplained airbag-related incidents (reported below). He also said that if the light came on again there would be a $900 cost for replacing the junction box (without mentioning erasing the code again as an option). Previous air bag issues: 4/22/13, 28,289mi, performed recall 105 update passenger airbag software; 3/26/12 25,606mi 103clockspringreplacement TSB#11-01-053 complete campaign does not apply(?) eventually the 119$ was waived after I strongly objected to any charges for safety related items, and particularly for those that have a demonstrated track record of problems. I strongly believe that Hyundai and any manufacturer should stand airbag safety as a separate non-warranty issue. On the 2007 Santa Fe, which has had numerous complaints re airbags, I would expect Hyundai to fix the problem once and for all and at no charge. As an electrical engineer, this sounds like a classic case of "buggy" software and/or hardware. They have simply dodged the issue and continue to do so, and their performance suggests they don't care for customers' safety or federal oversight of same.

12 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

My Santa Fe's airbag light came on. When I sent it to the dealers they said it was the "clock spring" that needs replacing. There has been a recall issued by Hyundai (NHTSA id 11v472000) for this exact reason in the united states. Problem is I live in south africa and our legal system is not as efficient as yours is so manufacturers get away with not issuing recalls that originate in the states. Do you have a part number for the coil spring that I can track from Hyundai? according to Hyundai south africa they cannot say if the defective parts that where put in USA vehicles are the same as the ones put into south african vehicles! I would like to do my own investigating to find out. Please help. Regards byron erskine. Durban, south africa.

13 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. Consumer writes in regards of airbag recall. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated. The dealer stated they rectified the recall issue. The air bag light is still on, the dealer states I will need a new seat to rectify the problem.

14 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. Consumer writes in regards of airbag recall. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated. The dealer stated they rectified the recall issue, but they mentioned that although they reset the air bag light/sensor, the problem identified for the front sensor short, to the battery, was tracked to the under hood junction box, which was different than what the recall was for.

15 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2012

Air bag light on dash would stay on,andwhen locking car with key fob, lights would flash when pressing key fob first time, but on second press horn would not beep, vehicle alarm would go off intermittently. They replaced sensor under seat and it fixed problem for awhile. 6-20-2007,same exact problem again. After googling symptoms have found numerous complaints of almost the same problem or some variation there of!my question to the safety board is,why haven't you forced a recall on Hyundai on this issue?lives are being placed in jeopardy by your inaction. Is someone on Hyundais payroll there ,or what?if so they should have become a senator or congressman, thats where the big payoffs are.

16 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

My local vehicle service department in maryland will not fix the current air bag recall (NHTSA campaign id number: 11v472000), because the vehicle was bought in guam. They claimed that us recalls don't apply to cars bought in guam, even though they researched the issue and found that the reason my air bag light is illuminated is because of a faulty clock spring, the same as the recall. I now have a vehicle with a safety recall in the united states and the manufacturer refuses to fix it, which means my air bag will not work.

17 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

The airbag light in the instrument cluster came on and now stays on while the car is being operated. This is the fourth time in less than a year that this has happened. I'm told that when this light is on the airbag system is not operating and will not function when needed. The prior three times this happened, the incident was addressed by my Hyundai dealer, king Hyundai in deerfield beach, FL. In one case, there was a recall by Hyundai for a "clock spring" replacement which king Hyundai claims they have completed, yet the light keeps coming on, usually within one month of having it repaired at the dealer. There are numerous complaints about this all over the internet yet there are no permanent solutions from Hyundai while there is a significant risk undertaken by drivers of this vehicle when the government mandated airbag system is disengaged, thus I implore you to force Hyundai to once again recall all affected vehicles that seem to commonly have this problem and permanently fix them.

18 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the air bag warning indicator continuously illuminated until the engine was turned off. The malfunction recurred the following day after the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign id number was 11v472000 (air bags:frontal). The contact had not experienced a failure prior to the recall remedy repair. The vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

19 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2012

On February 23rd of 2012 I received a clock spring replacement that was under campaign 103-clock spring replacement TSB# 11-01-052 for 2007-2008 Santa Fe models or 2007-2008 veracruz models. My Hyundai Santa Fe had 42,229 miles on it at this time. The campaign was performed replacing the clock spring with part # 93490-2b300 and paid for under warranty amounting in $0. 00. However, on August 1st of 2013 the air bag light illuminated and the same replacement was performed on my vehicle. The vehicle now has 56,985 miles on it and was scanned for codes and according to paperwork, b1481 and b1332 were found, indicating the failure of the clock spring. The clock spring part # 93490-2b300 was therefore replaced again amounting to $282. 92 for parts and labor. My own extended warranty company now had to pay for this part that in my eyes is a vehicle safety issue and should be proceeded with much concern. In one year a very important part continued to fail which, if not working properly at the time of an accident can cause extreme harm to the driver. This part shouldn't be failing in my eyes unless the air bag has been deployed. I don't see how this part is safe if it has failed a little over a year after being replaced due to a campaign that was issued by the Hyundai manufacturer. This is a part that should withstand the lifetime of the car!.

20 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2011

The contact owns a 2007 hyundia Santa Fe. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and the trouble code detected that the pods ecu was faulty. The technician stated that the front passenger seat would need to be replaced in order to perform the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

21 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

At 61,179 miles the air bags light on the dashboard appeared lite. Dealership troubshot to a faulty air bag computer. Computer not covered under extended warranty. Noticed on NHTSA website a few higher milege vechiles are experiencing this problem. Requesting an investigation into Hyundai's quality practtices relating to potential saftey issues. If the air bag computer is malfuctioning will airbags still deploy in an accident? NHTSA- question - if not is this a re-callable event. Please advise all Hyundai Santa Fe owners whether this a saftey hazard and what preventative measures can be taken. ?.

22 Air Bag Light On problem

23 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

I received a recall letter from Hyundai concerning the airbags in the vehicle. I realized that my airbag light on my dash had been on for a long time, perhaps a year or two, but I thought that was normal and didn't realize it meant it didn't work. I brought my vehicle to the dealer and they performed the repair related to the recall. The dealer stated that the repair did not fix the problem as the airbag light was still on. I agreed to pay the diagnostic charge so the dealer could find the problem. The dealer says there is a short in the wiring harness that is the cause of the problem which would cost $1500 to fix. They said the srs computer and airbag sensor may also need to be replaced for a cost of $600 and $400 respectively.

24 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 5 mph the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where she was informed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to recur. 25 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2010

Air bag system for a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe disarm while driving or will not arm after starting. My wife weighs 105 lbs. Quite often to arm the system she has to bend over and get weight on front of seat system will arm . After traveling some distance sitting in the right position the air bag light will come on and stay on until my wife bends forward to rear system this has been occurring since the car was new.

26 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

My esc light comes on and goes off intermittently while driving, this has been happening for probably the past year. I have never noticed any effect on the performance of the vehicle and since I didn't know what esc was I did not pay it a great deal of attention to it. My passenger air bag light also does this "coming on and going off thing" so I assumed it was a weird dash light glitch. About 4 months ago vehicle started having electrical problems (power door locks sometimes stop working). Finally today I noticed my rear brake lights were not coming on. . . Obviously I was very concerned and called Hyundai to find out if there were any recalls. Hyundai gave me a case # but said my vehicle is not covered under current recall, so I am not sure if anything is wrong?.

27 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2008

Air bag light comes on and panic alarm goes off by itself. After each event, alarm will not fully reset.

28 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

I have also had this problem on my 2007 Santa Fe limited (the airbag indicator and the alarm sounding for no reason at the same time). They both started happening at the same time. I have the airbag indicator illuminated in the lower right hand corner of the dashboard control panel. I took it to the dealership on this past Monday (23 June 2008) and they were able to see the error code. But could not determine what the actual problem is. So they cleared the error code, changed the oil, and washed it. The dealership told me to come back if it happens again. The funny thing about this problem is that it comes and goes. As I was driving to the dealership, the indicator went off. But once I got to the dealership and they went to check it, it came back on and stayed on. Well, it happened again the very next day. I called the dealership and they have instructed me to bring it in because this should not be happening. They have offered to put me in a loaner car while they investigate what is going on with my truck. Oh I forgot to tell you what happened after they cleared the code. After they cleared the code on the 23rd, the alarm does not sound when you press the control button twice. They disarmed something on the other day. Im thinking that they should do a whole system reset or something. I will keep you posted on what they find during my visit this evening or whenever my truck is returned to me. Heres the trick to the sounding alarm problem that I figured out. 1. Arm the alarm. 2. Wait for the 30 secs for it to sound. 3. Disarm the alarm. 4. Arm the alarm. 5. All is well at this point with the alarm. I have found this to work for me. But it is a pain if you ask me. However, until there is a fix for it, this is a solution that works.

29 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

Passenger airbag on/off indicator light reads off, although a 5'3", 125lb adult is seated in passenger. Brought to dealer service dept attention, told I needed to wiggle in the seat to get all four sensors to activate. Occasionally this technique will get the light to no longer illuminate, but if you move your position slightly - the light read off once again.

30 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

The airbag light has come on multiple times in my vehicle. The clockspring replacement recall was performed on my vehicle. The airbag indicator has continued to come on intermittently since then. Finally, about two months ago, the light came on and stayed on. I took the vehicle into the Hyundai dealership and they stated low voltage and reset the light. The light came back on immediately when I drove it off their lot. I took the vehicle back in and they stated it was because of the junction box and that I needed to spend $895 to replace it. I believe Hyundai should repair the airbag issue because of the failure of their airbag system throughout the entire time I have owned this vehicle. I will not buy a Hyundai again if this is not honored and I have purchased two brand new vehicles from them.

31 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2008

We have a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe and the front passenger seat air bag indicator is malfunctioning. My wife (the passenger) is 5' 3' and 115 pounds. She sits in the seat properly as stated in the manual, however sometimes the air bag light is illuminated "off" indicating that the system is not active (air bag system will not engage in case of a frontal crash), other times (30%) it works properly. I've taken it to the dealer 3 times, 4379, 5767 and 11,421 miles. They replaced the seat but it didn't change anything. They said they could do nothing else and my wife should sit in the back seat. When we test drove this vehicle everything worked fine, three weeks later the problem started. My wife and I have become reluctant to drive this vehicle in its current condition. If Hyundai motor America cannot fix this problem as they have stated, they should replace or buy this (these) vehicles back. I can't understand how this vehicle received a 5 star crash rating with so many similar complains about the same problem.

32 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

2007 Hyundai santafe - passenger side air bag indicator light shows that the air bags are sometimes turned off when an adult weighing 125 lbs is in the seat. Problem also occurs periodically when a 150 lb adult is in the passenger seat. We have requested that Hyundai repair this defect, but their dealer just runs a test and tells us that it "operates as designed". The problem does not occur when the same passenger sits in a 2009 santafe (at the same dealer, with the maintenance manager witnessing from the drivers seat).

33 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

The passenger front air bag sensor located in the seat does not correctly classify my wife (130 lbs. ) as an adult. As a result, the passenger front air bag and passenger side impact air bags are not consistently activated. The "passenger air bag off" indicator light located on the dash is on at least 30% or more of the time of travel. This system is not dependable in the event of a front or side impact. There is no way to know when the system will be activated and protecting my wife. She weighs 130 pounds in body weight. I believe the sensor in the seat is poorly designed and ultimately unreliable and unsafe.

34 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2007

Purchased a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe in Feb/07. The passenger side airbag light intermittently turns on (airbag is inactivated) and off (no light means airbag activated) when my 5'6" 120lbs wife sits in the seat. All positional suggestions in the manual (sitting straight up, feet flat on the floor, etc) have been adhered to with the same intermittent result. I would hazard a guess and say that the passenger airbag is off 75% of the time when she sits in the seat. The only suggestion we have received from the dealership is to sit in the back seat.

35 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2006

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. From the date of purchase, the contact has experienced air bag light failure with the vehicle. The dealer was able to repair the failure on the driver's side, but not the passenger side. The air bag light intermittently illuminates with or without an occupant in the passenger seat. He took the vehicle back to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic on the seat. They replaced the seat with a new one, but the failure was still present. The dealer then reinstalled the old seat, but replaced the seat module. This also did not correct the failure. The mechanic could not identify the cause of the failure and no further repairs have been made. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 33,000. Updated 08/01/08.
