The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 40 mph, the emission control system warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost acceleration. A considerable amount of smoke started emerging from the exhaust pipe. The contact continued driving to an independent mechanic who determined that the vehicle presented a timing default failure and it was using four cylinders instead of six. The contact also stated that the same failure occurred in March of 2017. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gasket was faulty on top of the engine, causing the loss of engine oil and acceleration. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the gasket and changing the oil filter; however, the failure still occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
