1 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2025

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact used a personal handheld scanner to scan the vehicle and retrieved dtc: p1326 which indicated a failure with the knock sensor detection system (ksds). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v578000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

2 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2022

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai sonata. The contact stated that while the daughter was driving approximately 70 mph a knocking noise was present coming from the engine compartment and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that an internal engine failure had occurred involving the rod bearing and crank shaft and the short block of the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 17v578000(engine and engine cooling). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 72,000.

3 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2017

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. While having an oil change performed on the vehicle, the local dealer began to inspect the vehicle for a recall. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v578000 (engine and engine cooling). The part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer (gosch Hyundai, 100 carriage circle, hemet, CA 92545) stated that the inspection tool was not available, but was ordered. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
