1 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

I was coming from food shopping, on August, 26, 2019 and was trying to leave out my parking spot. While me backing out, my vehicle accelerated backward and while I tried to stop my vehicle it tapped into a light pole. I was trying to get my self out of this weird situation. I switched gears to park my car, and my car accelerated forward slamming into a brick wall and also rubbing against it. My car then slowly started to back up not even letting me be able to break or switch gears. For the last time it accelerated forward side swiping a lady car and hitting the brick wall again. My air bags did not go off, leaving me with an concussion and also sever neck and head pain. This all happen so suddenly and randomly. I barely remembered what happened until seeing a video off of the camera at a near by gas station. This situation went from something weird happening into a very dangerous and scary situation. I contacted national consumers affairs Hyundai motor vehicle, because my car had been totaled, I was left with hospital bills and also my insurance may go up, because of the whole situations. I thought I would have came to some closure when it came to them helping me out with my situation, but they told me they can't find nothing wrong with my car and there was no defect or anything. After sending these people pictures, the video, and even proof of me going to the hospital more than once, they made me feel like this was all my fault. I spoke to a "private" contractor from Hyundai that was supposed to look into my car and also a specialist that didn't want to give me his last name while looking into my case. Also a lady from Hyundai called me from a private number from the company. This all seem so weird to me as if they were scamming me when it came to a serious situation like this. I feel like Hyundai is running fake investigations. I'm hoping NHTSA do something ASAP.

6 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

I took my vehicle to the dealership to perform two recalls: (1) stop lamp switch and (2) pods recalibration. I was informed the air bag light in the dashboard had come on and stayed on after the recalibration of the pods. I never had an issue with the pods system or an air warning light in the dash prior to the recall. I was told Hyundai would pay to either replace the passenger front seat belt tensioner or the entire seat. They did not allow me to drive my vehicle becuase they said it was a safety issue and rented me a car for 4 days. Replacing the seat belt tensioner fixed the problem, but less than a year later (4-15-14) the air light has come on and now they tell me that it's the scale in the seat and the entire seat needs to be replaced at a cost to me of $2400+. The service advisor told me that the driver's side air bags were not affected -- only the passenger's and I would be safe to drive the car. The service tech quickly returned the car and we didn't receive any paperwork resulting from the inspection. My husband and I did not elect to replace the seat at this time while we research the issue. However, my husband and I did notice that the pods "off" light turns off when a passenger is in the seat which is confusing since the advisor said the scale isn't working. Now we are left with a 6-year-old car that has an expensive safety issue. We can't sell it to a private party because of the safety issue and the trade-in value has dramatically declined.

7 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/26/2012

First of all I know our 2011 Hyundai santafe is not made in USA, it is a korean 2. 4 l, 7 seater bought in panama. I wrote to the Hyundai complaint website and they very politely answered that the car was a non-us model and they sent me a link to a website where I could file the complaint. I did it but I have no answer yet. My first problem after the crash was the unavailability of parts for repairing the car. I filed a complaint with our local consumer authority here in panama. Our car was in th shop for more than 9 months, its running now but still some parts missing. The issue is that after getting the car back from the shop I received a call from our local Hyundai dealer (petroautos) telling me about the campaign of the faulty brake switch (just as in the us models) and that I had to take the car to the dealer. So I looked up in internet and I find several recalls related to the brakes. I took the car to the dealer and they changed the switch. So I´m wondering if this was related to the crash because I always had my doubts of what happened when I braked that day. Finally there was a crash and although I know this may only be for your information or files, and that you canâ´t help me; please take this into account for your evaluations. Thanks.

10 Air Bag On-off Switch problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/22/2009

When my partner sits on passenger side, the air bag light indicator remains on, indicating that air bag is off. She is 54 yrs old, 5'2, 113 lbs. When previously brought to dealer, they state that there is no problem with the sensor & the air bag. They called Hyundai, and then told me that it is set for 125-130 lbs but could not give me that in writing. Please, I'm afraid for her safety. Hyundai should rewire & put in a switch to turn air bag off. Not the other way around, the way it is now. I don't have any children so turning off the airbag manually is not a problem. Traveling in the car is not only not safe, but not enjoyable. Until you can force Hyundai to fix the problem, she will have to sit in the back. It is not right. What is going to take to correct the problem, someone's death. Please, I hope it is corrected before that happens. I have been on numerous forums that indicate many people across the country are having the same problem & Hyundai won't fix it like they did with the sonata. Please do something. Thank you in advance.
