1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/04/2021

On 9/25/20 I filed a vehicle complaint based on the fact that the horn on my 2020 Santa Fe had twice working, requiring the dealer to replace parts. (tracking number 11371071. ) the horn has again stopped working and is back in the dealer's repair shop. The car currently has approximatately 5600 miles on it and was purchased in 7/20.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

Car was in motion approaching an intersection at approximately 50 mph when some unidentified, unseen object crashed into the sliding panoramic roof. The result was a 12 x 8 inch hole and a spiderweb of cracks throughout the rest of the glass. Fortunately, the inside cover was closed and the driver was not injured. The object was not recovered. It will take 3-5 business days for the repair company to order and receive the replacement. The car is unusable till then.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

At highway speed the computer has attempted to pull the car out of the lane into the adjoining lane as if in attempt to avoid something. This is happened at highway speed's about six times. Vehicle also at one time applied the emergency brake as the vehicle is approaching an intersection as an emergency stop. The car would not move for several seconds. When I brought the vehicle into the Hyundai dealership the representative immediately suggested that there was a rodent problem. This was confirmed not to be the case. As there did not appear to be any other computer messaging the technician suggested that maybe it was the California fastrack responder unit. They suggested it be relocated which I did. The problem lies that you're not sure that this is what caused the problem and the suggestion to drive it to see if it repeated as it does not sound prudent from a safety perspective. The computer pulls at a hard level which makes it difficult to maintain the vehicle in the lane and it suddenly releases the pulling which jerks the car back into the driving lane much like an over correction. This is obviously quite dangerous and I would suggest something else is done to either confirm or disapprove the responder issue as these responders are common and it was placed per the instructions of the fastrack.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

For the past 12-14 mos I've had to add additional 1-4 quarts of oil after verifying low oil on dip stick in between regularly scheduled oil changes at firestone. They noted Dec 2019 internal oil leakage. Oil light never came on. Most recently Feb 14, 2020 check engine light came on checked dip stick twice it only had oil on tip, added 2 quarts oil, light went off. Check eng light came on few days later, repeated dip stick check =added 3 more quarts oil few days later. Repeated several xs throughout Feb 2020. Paid 3 separate mechanics all stated internal oil leak. 1 mechanic stated had several customers with same complaint. He informed me check with dealer for 1 recall or 2 extended warranty & due to oil consumption problem. He estimated approx $5k + to rebuild engine, piston rings issue. I called dealer asked cost for them to check was quoted Mini $139 to start. When they emailed appointment confirmation, I confirmed appmt Mar 14, 2020 & asked 1. If a recall existed 2. If extended warranted covered it. When I got there today I asked same 2 questions & was told to pay $42 for oil change #1 today & bring car every 1000 miles 3 more times free of charge so they can track internal oil leak. Was told extended warranty only went to 120,000, my car's @ 125,600. I asked why I wasnt informed of this extended warranty as I received letter last year when I brought car in for courtesy software update & 2018 another courtesy check, they couldnt explain. I feel if I didnt use buzz words 4th mechanic told me I would have been charged more $. A mechanic 3 days ago said I needed exhaust manifold catalytic convtr $1244 & new spark plugs & coils $703. Infomed this mechanic I pd $600 approx 6 mos ago for spark plugs due to hesitation in acceleration & jerky & sputtery motion. I feel like Hyundai is aware of this problem & I read similar issues resulting in fires. I'm still payin on car.

5 Carrier/rack problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

I had rented a Hyundai sante fe in September 2019. I had the vehicle for a few weeks with no issues until I drove over the mountains. I had pulled into a parking lot and was looking to park, coasting through the parking lot, I then backed up and found a parking spot. I was turning right in at a very slow speed, a virtual crawl into a parking space when I pressed the brakes to stop the vehicle when it suddenly revs its engine and began accelerating out of control jumping over the front parking curb and slamming into a chain link fence. The brake was depressed to the floor and would not stop, I pumped the brakes to stop and when it would not stop, I quick slammed the vehicle into the park position to prevent the vehicle from hitting a tracker and causing further damage or injury. I contacted my insurance agent and then I contacted enterprise rental company in bend oregon. I was on hold for roughly 30 min. I explained the situation and they stated that there were no recalls they knew of and they advised me to contact their tow company and have it towed to the airport in redmond oregon to switch out the vehicles. I researched on my own and found that their was a similar incident in las vegas, nv reported in January 31st, 2018. This incident needs to be looked into before someone is seriously injured. The isg may be a contributing factor in this case.

7 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

When turning, the vehicle makes a clunk sound. Had it inspected at Hyundai of wesley chapel and it was found to have an internal failure of steering rack gear assembly and now requires a replacement of the steering rack assembly. This is an ongoing issue with Hyundai, as the 2017 Santa Fe's were recalled for this issue.

8 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/18/2018

The rear section of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered while I was driving at approximately 45 mph on a sunny day, temps in upper 50s. There was a very loud noise followed by cracking sounds, indicating that the glass was cracking and spreading across the pane. The glass did not fall through but is cracked across the entire pane. No evidence of any impact from road debris.

9 Carrier/rack problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

This is in response to my tracking number 11092056. I found that you have assigned a campaign id number which is 09v-123000 Hyundai campaign 090. I feel like I should have been included in this settlement since I worked in ohio for 30 years which is a saltbelt state.

10 Carrier/rack problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/07/2018

I was pulling onto the highway and coming up to speed, going approximately 50 miles per hour, when I heard a loud noise, like a crack or a boom. it quickly became clear that my glass sunroof had burst and there were glass pieces raining down on the sun screen, which thankfully had been closed. No injuries were sustained.

11 Carrier/rack problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

On may 31st I purchase a new Santa Fe sport awd 2017 - 21 days after drving the card the dashboard light where coming on for tracking control and downward shifting - when I originally called the dealership I was told maybe I went through a large puddle if they come on again call them back - within three hours of hanging up the phone the same problem started again - I called the dealership - and brought the car in they kept the car for a month stating a master technician from Hyundai was looking into it, but they see where there was an issue with the shift. But they were not able to tell me the issue but it seemed to be cured for. While I was driving last week on the highway I hear a thumping sound, I thought I had a flat tire - pulled over no flat - I proceeded to drive and the sound came back - I immediately turned around and brought it back to a local mechanic shop - the mechanic shop informed me that the right front axle and shaft joint was broken and the car was unsafe to drive - I had the car towed to the local dealership who confirmed the same issue and replaced the parts required - they informed me that it was very possible that was the reason why the dashboard lights are coming on originally - the card is branch new and did not even make three months of ownership - I contacted Hyundai originally and made a complaint for the dashboard ,lights but never received a reply - I sent an additional email in regards to the new issue and informed them that they should check to see if perhaps this make and model of the card is are experiencing a manufacturing defect ----- I also informed them that I could have died if this axle failed while driving on the highway. - I think there need to an investigation into the matter before someone does end up dying.

12 Carrier/rack problem of the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/04/2017

While driving my Hyundai Santa Fe down a highway at normal speed, the panoramic sunroof on the vehicle shattered. There were no cars ahead of me to cause a rock to fly into the roof and crack it. There was an extremely loud pop sound when this issue occurred. This happened while my family and I were driving back from a holiday trip. Read online that many others are having a similar situation with their panoramic sunroof on their Hyundai Santa Fe.

13 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

14 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/22/2017

I was driving down my block directly in front of my home under 25 miles/hour on a city street. I was driving straight forward and not turning. Suddenly, there was a loud short noise like a gun going off so I got out of the care, only to find that the sunroof had severely cracked and the glass had risen up. I did not hit anything nor did any rocks or debris fall on my car. The cracking was totally spontaneous and seemingly without cause. It was approx. 7:00 pm at night. I looked online and discovered that there is a lawsuit pending over this very issue in the central court, state of California involving the same situation/defect on several years and models of Hyundai autos; my make, model and year being among them.

15 Carrier/rack problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

Panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded at 75 mph on the interstate, no other vehicles around, no overpasses, no existing cracks. Sounded like a shotgun and startled me so early in the morning, and I almost ran off the road. Had there been vehicles or trucks in the other lane I would have swerved into them. Tempered glass and tiny shards of glass rained down on me and were covering the car, as well as my skin. Covered in glass and a little blood and still shaking, I had to drive 40 minutes to the dealership where they told me I had to file an insurance claim and they would not replace it otherwise. This is a definite problem after researching it with hundreds of similar cases. Nice weather, no cause, other than manufacturer defect. If I had wrecked or my child had been in the car, this could have been very bad. Still finding pieces of glass in the console and under head rests months after.

16 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Driving 55 mph on two lane road with oncoming and cross traffic, our driver side sun visor pivot arm fell out of ceiling mount causing visor to dangle by wires (for make-up light) in front of driver obstructing view of road and causing panic. Wires eventually broke. Failure is caused by poor part design were a very thin plastic rim holds pivot arm in ceiling. It wears with use, cracks, and fails causing visor to fall out and dangle. Passenger side visor has same design flaw and also presents a safety risk. There are lots of internet reports of this problem in various 2007 & 2008 Hyundai models including our 2007 Santa Fe. In best cases, the visor instantly becomes unusable causing total loss of its sun shading capability. In worst cases, driver vision of road is instantly impaired provoking panic and possible crash situation. All of these failures compromise vehicle and passenger safety potentially leading to injury or loss of life along with property damage. Because of the serious safety risks, and due to the cause being inadequate design, a recall order would be wise on these vehicles. Please give investigation of this problem due priority as it presents a serious safety risk. I can buy and install a replacement visor. Indications are that the replacement part will have the same problem though. If Hyundai has upgraded to a better design of this part, they should be replacing the existing flawed design parts.

17 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/23/2015

Going on side street at 25mph when car suddenly lost control then hit a car tire on the right of the vehicle but then rolled over on its head. Side air bags deployed but not drive air bag. This car has to be unstable to hit another car on the side (see pics) and overturn. Besides, there are already recalls on some Santa Fe sport for cracked axles and bad tires.

18 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

While driving down interstate I heard a large sound as if the car was hit by something. There were no cars or trucks in front of me or to the right of me. Suddenly I heard crackling and put the sun shade back. The entire back panel of the sun roof shattered.

19 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

At 3:30 p. M. I was in my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe on my driveway, waiting for the garage door to go up. My foot was on the brake. Without warning, the car accelerated. (the 20 mph shown above is approximate. ) the car ran into the garage door and knocked it off its tracks. It crashed into built-in wooden cabinets along the side of the garage and came to rest against a wooden platform at the front of the garage. My foot did not leave the brake petal during this time. The garage door and wooden cabinets were destroyed. The car was declared to be unrepairable. I was considerably shaken up but luckily not injured physically.

20 Carrier/rack problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

February 20,2015 about 7:30 in the evening as I was going up a grade towards a red light , my car surged forward when I was breaking. I applied more pressure but the car did not stop until I threw it into park and had hit the car in front of me. I called 911 to report the accident. The car in front had some gate crack. My car had cracked plastic under the bumper and marks on the plastic part of the bumper.

21 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/16/2014

I was coming up to a stop sign, driver on cross street cut turn real tight doing about 35 or 40 miles an hour and hit my car headon. My steering wheel air bag deployed deflated I went over the steering wheel and cracked my windshield with my head.

22 Carrier/rack problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

For a long time I kept hearing this clunking type noise but we couldn't figure out what it was. Then on sun. Sept. 21, 2014 I noticed some extra play in the wheel. When I made a turn I had to turn the wheel twice as much as normal and then it locked and I had to really pull hard to get it back straight. We very carefully drove it to the auto shop only a mile away. They said my power steering line was ripped open. They said the bolt that attaches to the power steering gear rack sheared off of the subframe. I have pictures. Also since there is a recall on the coil springs for cars sold in the salt belt I thought this also could be a corrosion issue because the mechanic said he has never seen this before. The bolt didn't come loose, the actual subframe tore apart and the steering rack was just hanging there by one bolt and over time it ripped the rubber to shreds. This could have cause fatalities. We had to purchase a new subframe and steering rack to get the car drivable. It seems to me it was faulty manufacturing or a rust corrosion issue. The subframe is a huge thick iron frame where you would think nothing could break it, but in this instance it actually ripped. I would like some compensation for the repairs. I wanted this complaint out there because it could become a safety issue for other drivers.

23 Carrier/rack problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

After having new shocks, struts, cv axles, and new toyo open country tires put on 02 Hyundai Santa Fe when accelerating vehicle would pull hard to the right when letting off the gas car would pull the the left. Was informed it needed ball joints in the front end, I had them replaced was also informed the vehicle was still doing that but worse. Vehicle was given a wheel alignment per mechanic, car was still pulling hard. Mechanic inspected 02 Hyundai Santa Fe and reported that it needed a new steering rack. After I had that installed vehicle was still pulling hard to the right during acceleration and left when breaking or letting off gas. Mechanic said vehicle was unsafe to drive and had me leave it with them to figure out the problem. They reported and fixed a rotted out front end sub frame. Vehicle drives as if brand new now. A year prior to the above incident I also had to replace the rear passenger side control arm. Hyundai would not acknowledge the recall on those parts for me.

24 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/13/2014

I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the drivers side sun visor was hanging by the mirror wires. Luckly it was held up somewhat with the clip. The plastic on the pivot side is cheap and cracked right off, there is no way to repair it and a replacement is 140. 00. This is a known issue and there is a recall for the 2007 Hyundai sonarta sun visors for the same issue.

25 Carrier/rack problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

Sub frame was replaced due to hidden rotting of internal mounting structure separation of suspension components, causing poor control of vehicle and tire wear in Aug. 2013. Under body was exposed to corrosive water in July, 2017 about three years ago and has turned the steel to " crackers " rust condition and made it unsafe to be road worthy due to possible separation of sub frame at body mounts. . All repairs where at my expense. I found some recalls to late on the computer. I`m in the process of replacing the unit. I kept all records of repairs and maintenance since I purchased it used. The power train is in good running order. I`m not to computer savey ! I have a fax mechine. Thank you.
