3 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

I was driving down the road going about 40 to 45 miles an hour on a busy road. I had my grandchildren in the car with me. The car all of a sudden shut off on me. Thank god I had enough momentum to pull over on the side of the road. I couldn't get the car to start so I sat there with them praying I wouldn't get hit. After a while it started up again and I went maybe two feet and it died again. I was able to roll into an empty garage and I called my husband. There was an auto zone near by so he got a machine which said what was wrong. It said it was the crankshaft sensor. My car is now being fixed at a Hyundai dealer. I went on line for recalls and I found one that said there was a recall on them but not for my vehicle. If it was on one vehicle year why wouldn't my year be covered. My family could have been killed because of the vehicle stopping all of a sudden on a main rd. Like I was on. We have kept up with all the recalls that they send us.

4 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

The 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe v6 will either not start, stall when moving or run extremely rough. The problem is more noticeable when it is raining or humid out. We are the original owner of the Santa Fe and have maintained the vehicle. This has been a reoccurring problem for the past eight years. The issues comes and go but have been more constant over the past four years. In the past, I have replaced the battery and had a tune up performed by the lester glenn Hyundai dealership. I bought the Santa Fe in service several times for this problem to be told they can not find the problem. On our last visit to the dealership they believed it was due to old spark plug wires. The tune up did not resolve the issue at all. As I researched the problem and became aware of Hyundai recall 049 which replaces the crankshaft position sensor. I spoke to Hyundai and they explained my vehicle was not part of the recall due to its production date. However, the problems I am experiencing is exactly identical to the problem specified in the recall. Hyundai needs to expand the perimeters of the recall to resolve this problem.

5 Crankshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

3rd time crank shaft sensor went in 1 year/5 months. Car only has 60,000 miles. All 3 times, car would not accelerate, check engine light then appears and seconds later the car shuts off. Twice we were on the highway when this happened and lucky we had enough time to get over to the breakdown lane before the car shut down. 3 times in a year and 5 months, this should not happen. . . Also, the air bag light has been coming on for the last year.

While driving at any speed vehicle stalled. Driver was not able to restart vehicle, and had it towed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced, and replace it. However, the problem recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection. Then, mechanic replaced the engine compartment relay, fuel sensor assembly, and the computer module. Consumer stated there has been 6 incidents/failures that are causing serious concerns with starting and stalling. It became more frequent and started happening while driving Santa Fe on roads and highway. Consumer have confidence in the vehicle and fear of it stalling in the center lane where there is little options except getting hit and possible getting seriously injured.
