1 Wiring problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/15/2020

My esc, dbc, and abs warning lights all illuminated at the same time this morning. There are many complaints of this happening on numerous Hyundai forms. Folks have been told to replace hubs, sensors and assorted other pieces. Most do not work costing hundreds of dollars. My particular vehicle had the lights come on maybe 6 or 8 months ago. Go off and come on again and off again. I've ignored them not noticing any driving impact. But the car is warning me that it isn't safe to drive the car. This is not a one of or two or three issue. This from another owner;all three light illuminated on my 2011 Santa Fe so I changed my front right abs speed sensor which was the cause of the lights, but the dash lights are still illuminated. Took it to the dealer and they said there is a short in the abs system wiring harness. What's the cost to fix? $4500. 00 really! I think a recall is due for this problem.

5 Wiring problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/07/2017

While on a long trip about 100 miles into the drive while driving on the freeway with the cruise control set to 78 mph the steering columns (from the turn signal side) starts smoking and it smelled like electrical wiring burning. I immediately slowed down but did not stop in fear of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. At the same time the turn signal started making this very fast clicking noise that sounded like the turn signal was stuck on, but it was not on. No idiot lights ever came on to indicate a problem. After about 15 minutes the smoke finally stopped the the smell went away. However the fast turn signal clicking noise continued off and on for the remainder of the trip. I continued to drive the next 250 miles home with the clicking noise. I was able to turn the engine off and on again when I stopped for gas and it started just fine. I plan to take the car into the dealership on Monday morning to have the issue diagnosed. Just after this happened I called my dealership for advise on what to do and he thought there might be a recall on this issue. My biggest fear was that the inside of the car was going to catch on fire and I was going to be stranded in the middle of no where with no help. Not to mention the fear on me catching on fire as the steering column in right in front of my body. Very dangerous situation. Please recall for this issue.

6 Wiring problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Air bag light keeps coming on and off(every day , several times on a 30-45 mins drive ) on dashboard as I am driving on regular basis . . Seems like airbag won't deploy while light is on , and if there is an accident and light is on I think the driver airbag will not deploy . Hyundai dealers already know the issue and apparently is a bad electric connection on the seat belt click that needs to be replace . . . They are willing to "diagnose it" for $125 . . But many people says the cost of repair is $490 . They wont acknowledge is a defect on the wiring and want people to pay for it . Is very scary driving knowing that my airbag may not deploy.

7 Wiring problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

In the affected vehicle, the wires in the can wiring harness assembly and airbag wiring harness assembly may be damaged by the passenger seat¿s height adjuster mechanism. A metal 3rd party power inverter was positioned underneath the passenger seat. Prior seat adjustments caused the sheath around the harnesses to become bare, exposing the electrical wiring. The metal power inverter become lodged against the wiring causing a short in the wiring and causing the entire vehicle's electrical system to fail. The epb (electronic parking break) became engaged and it was impossible to drive the vehicle. Although acknowledge that the 3rd party power inverter was under the seat, the vehicle had been driven 4 times with it under it, totaling less than 800 miles. It is not known how long it would take for that box to rub against the sheath on the harness and bare the wiring, therefore it is suspected that the power seat adjuster caused the wires to become bare and that recall #141 safety campaign #16v145000 may not have been properly resolved. We believe the seat adjuster caused the wires to become bare, prior to the inverter being placed under the seat. The inverter was positioned such that it wasn't making contact with the bare wire, until the seat was adjusted on 7/2/2017. The car was not driven on 7/3/2016. The incident occurred on 7/4/216 as the vehicle was driven across railroad tracks. It is believed the inverter was then jarred against the bare wire, causing the short. The dealership has not validated this; they are suggesting it was the inverter that caused the wires to become bare. Our opinion is that the inverter was not there long enough to cause that wiring to become bare. It wasn't until I discovered this previous recall that everything started to make sense. It is a $5,300. 00 repair because the other wires involved that are bare are for the airbags.

11 Wiring problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

Vehicle delivered as new, immediately upon attempting to pump and fill gasoline tank, the pump clicked as full. However, gasoline gauge on dash only would and continues to show 3/4 full. There have been numerous attempts and replacement equipment to address and eradicate this situation and nothing has corrected the situation nor does Hyundai have any answers available to correct this situation. The vehicle has been in my favorite Hyundai service facility for many days and when finally returned the only answer I was given, was that the vehicle is an early production of the model and they have had some of same problem. In addition the electronic steering is a great disappointment as it is quite difficult to keep the vehicle on a true straight pathway no matter what the composition of the pavement. There was some sort of alert from the factory on an adjustment however and was addressed but is still terrible. Then there's an issue on the hitch whereby then trailer prep wiring was included on the invoice, installed by the selling dealer and the servicing dealer feels it not there duty/responsibility to repair it. I have been a Hyundai customer since 2001 as this is a very great disappointment and besides safety issues. These issues must be cleared up ASAP by both the Hyundai manufacturer and straightened out with their dealers. Please ! I would think the manufacturer admitting they know of the problem and cannot solve it they would replace my exact vehicle as I purchased it equipped and take back this one. They know of the problem so just simply replace my vehicle without any charges to me now!.

12 Wiring problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

A 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe was involved in a front end impact . The vehicle was taken to a local body shop for repairs. In the normal course of repairs, the shop replaced the components of the supplementary restraint system and sent the vehicle to the local dealer to check for error codes and to reset the system. One of the error codes would not clear. The dealer, in washington state advised the repair shop and us that pursuant to a TSB,01-90-013, Hyundai recommends that the wiring harness also must be replaced in addition to the standard parts of the airbag system, when the air bags are deployed. There was no direct damage to the wiring harness and this appears to be some unique requirement designed into the harness by Hyundai. It is unclear why this is required or what unique feature was built into the harness that demands the replacement of the entire harness. This added requirement adds an additional $6,767. 75 to the repair cost over and above the regular collision related cost. Whereas this requirement is unique to the new 2010 Santa Fe model and is not function required during the standard replacement of air bags in any other vehicle that we are aware of, we must ask is this a defect, is this simply a design feature to enhance profit from repairs or is there some unique feature to the wire harness design that serves some other purpose or function? any information would be appreciated.

14 Wiring problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

Hyundai Santa Fe purchased on 12 sept 2009. Dvd screen not functioning, could hear movie not see it. Dealership replaced screen in October 2009. Since then, the dvd rse system has intermittently changed from dvd to xm or cd at will. Rear passengers are not able to reach the dvd buttons due to age and child safety seats. Rse is locked from front controls. Dvd system continues to switch from dvd to xm or cd at least once per day causing the passengers to be blasted with high volume music. In October 2009, the internal electrical control system (for doors and windows and such) was replaced and the alarm system was reset (it kept arming itself randomly). In November 2009, the alarm system was reset again and the dvd problem was brought to mechanics attention again. Alarm system was fixed but they could not replicate the dvd problem. Took car in again 16 January 2010, was told intertwining outside radio signals and the fact I work on a military base were causing the dvd to switch. Ft sam houston, TX is mainly a medical training military base. Mechanic replicated problem but later told shop manager that he couldn't replicate the problem with out driving in town where I normally drive. Mechanic and repair shop manager stated it could not be a loose plug or wiring it was the radio signals. This occurs at random and I thought it was from bumps in the road until it continued to happen when driver was not touching the steering wheel or radio controls, at stop lights, and on smooth roads. I researched this problem and found a blog on edmunds stating Hyundai has know about this and audio problems since 2007 but nothing will fix dvd problem.

15 Wiring problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/12/2008

Airbag light came on. Diagnosed as faulty wiring. Dealer got it to go out, but if it comes back on again they say the entire passenger side airbag needs to be replaced. Dealer cannot say if the air bag will deploy in an accident and says that the manufacturer will not say either. Now, the light is out behind the heater control button. Once again diagnosed as faulty wiring. Faulty wiring sounds like a factory problem to me. All services on this vehicle have been done since day one as recommended by the manufacturer.
