2007 sante fe limited, sage grey one owner, garage kept, maintained regular basis, low mileage 84,000, interior and exterior in excellent condition with a kelly blue book of $4200 to $4600. Purchased at lauren Hyundai in glenview and maintained at Hyundai lincolnwood, IL along with my regular mechanic. I learned yesterday that the right rear of sub frame rusted out with a both front frame rusted out and has a hole in it. It's a know issue by fed, NHTSA, series of recalls and dealer rusted out frames, sub frames and other part repairs and replacemetns. The 2007 treatment didn't work and the same issue is all over the internet with class action suits. I've also read low and high mileage cars within 2-10 years have same issue but must be covered under warranty. They resolved the older ones by spraying them one one recall and didn't upgrade their sub par parts for us cold weather salt belt states. I now lost the value, cant sell it outright and the car is deemed unsafe. I'd like assistance getting this looked at and repaired. Yes old but in great condition mechanically with a vital part of the car not code for chicago from the beginning with a continued issue up to today. Cars that were new and a few years were getting them replaced. I that even safe after the repair? I still have value in this car and I shouldn't have to forfit from gross negligence on Hyundai motors on a vital part of the car. I was considering a trade but now find out its a major safety issue for many models. I'd like to get this looked at, repaired or work out some type of solution. Any assistance you can give me is greatly appreciated. The dealer said it's old and acted like they had no idea. Thank you.

Purchased car new garage kept well maintained at dealer. Had a recall in 2016 for frame corrosion. I brought car in and dealer rust proofed frame. Continued to have car serviced and completed all maintenance that dealer recommended. Some repairs very expensive like timing belt, water pump, idle pulley etc. Last month brought car in for transmission exchange and I was told the side rails of car are rusted thru and car is unsafe to drive. This vehicle was supposedly inspected every time car was serviced. Hyundai never said anything about rust getting worse. I would like your help holding them accountable. They admitted to having defective steel. Please help!!.

Hello so I took my 07 Hyundai Santa Fe limited 98k miles to a garage to get some work done and they put it on the lift and stoped the work to call me in to see that my subframe in front is rusted through big chunks of metal missing mainly on the passenger side of frame. I was told that their is a recall about this and that Hyundai has replaced the subframes as a result of the recall I have no idea why under the car only that one area it's rusted but the rest of car is fine. This is dangerous and was told at any time the engine could fall through. I will attach some photos of it the best I can. Hope you can help. I got kids that ride in this and I'm now scared. I never received anything in mall the about the recall. I was made aware of this major issue November 29, 2019.
Right side main frame rusted threw. Can not pass state inspection. Car for all practical purposes the car is totaled and not covered by car insurance !!!.

The contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the frame was rusted and could potentially fracture. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle could fail an inspection due to the frame needing to be re-welded. The dealer (tarbox Hyundai, 3665 quaker ln, north kingstown, ri 02852, (401) 826-1500) was contacted. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v435000 (suspension) and 09v123000 (suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

I had been driving the vehicle home and noticed the car was rubbing against the car. The subframe has rusted so much that I can't drive it. Had taken the vehicle to firestone. They said not to drive it and you should have it towed to our house. They said the tire would fall off or worse. They wouldn't touch it. So I had it towed to the Hyundai dealership. They told me that to replace the sub frame in the front on the driver's side, it would cost $2000. When I towed the vehicle to Hyundai, they said it could cost up to $5000. I couldn't afford to fix it. I then towed it home and it is sitting in my garage. I wish I would have know about this problem before I bought.

Took vehicle in for a normal oil change, and when technician was under the car, he took some pictures of the frame in the front right corner by the front right tire. He was showing me the frame was rusting very, very badly. He warned us that if we hit a small pot hole/bump or the curb at even 5 mph the frame could bust and we could crash. The steering would shake and made chugging feeling when trying to turn, was looked at and power steering looked to be fine and fluid was full. After July 7th it made it very hard to drive and not safe for our family.

Hyundai 2002 Santa Fe began drifting during driving and developed uneven tire wear. Brought to garage - during inspection for cause, mechanic found rusted frame where front bolt of control arm is bolted to frame (frame completely gone, bolt was not attached to anything). Frame and tires replaced and alignment accomplished to fix problem - old part is available. Car was part of initial rust recall and inspected by Hyundai dealership with only action being undercoating applied.
After turning a corner @ 15 mph I had to leave the steering wheel at the 9 o-clock position in order to drive straight. I noticed the vehicle pulling to the right. I thought I had an alignment problem so I schedule an appointment at the local tire repair shop. Once they lifted the vehicle up for inspection they noticed that the subframe had rusted through and broke. After speaking with the mechanic I fell very fortunate that I was not driving on the highway at the time of the failure. After further investigation on the internet I found that the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe is currently being investigated for this exact problem so I called the local dealership. The dealership stated I was the 3rd vehicle they have repaired for this problem. The dealership is making the necessary repairs with no cost to me. I fell that all 2001 Santa Fe's should be recalled for an inspection at the least. We should not be waiting for a severe accident before the necessary steps are taken. There are only 30,000 people living in the town where I had my vehicle taken for service, 3 repairs would indicate to me that over the entire USA there are a lot more vehicles with the same problem.
After driving over a pot hole the vehicle continued to pull to the right as it was driven. The next day I took it to a repair shop for wheel alignment. The shop said they could not repair it as there was a fist size hole in the frame where it had rusted through where the control attaches to the frame. While researching the internet I learned of many similar defects reported to NHTSA I believe some Hyundai models share the frame.
