This has happened at last monthly since purchase in August 2011. When attempting to stop placement of accelerator and brake pedals causes my foot to press both pedals at same time. Yesterday when I attempted to stop at a "t" intersection the front end entered the intersection as another vehicle was approaching. Quick action by the other driver avoided a collision. My brother said he had same problem (foot on both pedals at same time) when test driving his wife's Santa Fe.

13 Structure problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

My 2002 sante fe has been recalled for rear trailing arm repair and I've been informed by the dealer that they will not pay for a loaner car. The dealer is far from both my home and work and this will require me to rent a car at my expense. Repairing the defect is the very least Hyundai should do. To truly be at no cost to the consumer, the recall should include a loaner car, as it would with any warranty repair.

16 Structure problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/16/2009

My 2004 Santa Fe has serious rusting on the under frame. Rust is on the weld points and the fuel and engine covers are completely covered with rust and have chunks missing. A recall of 2001 through 2003 sante fe vehicles does not include ours. We have 64,000 miles on it and well taken care of and we our very concerned that further rusting will cause important parts to give way. I was told by Hyundai that nothing could be done but I could write a letter of complaint to Hyundai of America. This I did and have not had any response as of 10/26/2009. My vehicle !@#$%. I am sure this is not an isolated vehicle and probably people do not realize there is an issue because like our car, it looks great until you put it on a hoist.

17 Structure problem of the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

18 Structure problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/28/2009

The interior door handles on my 2003 Hyundai sante fe have chipping/peeling paint. (the chrome paint) opening the door to get out the chrome paint is sharp like a razor and cuts my fingers and my child's fingers as it is happening on all four doors of the vehicle. It gets embedded into your finger somewhat like a splinter but much more difficult to remove and is very painful.

19 Structure problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

I purchased a used 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe in Aug/2005 from a Hyundai dealership (# ). In Aug/2006, the airbag light came on. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the results were "code b1382 psab resistance high - resecure connector under the passenger seat/clear code". In Feb/2008, the airbag sensor again appeared. The same technical code was detected, and the dealership resolution was to "reroute wire harness". In Mar/2008, the airbag light again appeared and was serviced by the dealership. In Nov/2008, the vehicle was again taken to the dealership due to the airbag light appearing. At the time of service in Nov/2008, the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealership indicated they would not fix the airbag free of charge under the warranty, at which time, they were informed that a complaint would be filed under the California lemon law due to repeat fixes for the same issue. The dealership then fixed the issue. On Nov. 26, 2008, the vehicle was hit in a high-speed rear end collision (~35mph) while at a stop light and pushed into an intersection, where it broadsided a moving vehicle. As a result of the impacts, the Hyundai was totaled, all rear seated passengers sustained injury due to the spare tire being lifted from the initial impact and raising the 60/40 split rear seat and pushing it forward, the front passenger received chest contusions and the driver of the vehicle sustained upper body injuries. Despite being pushed forward and making a strong impact, the airbags failed to deploy. I requested Hyundai investigate the matter, and they determined that although the front right of the vehicle was damaged from the secondary impact, it was not sufficient to warrant airbag deployment. I researched complaints from other Hyundai owners regarding repeated airbag sensor light repairs and other airbag failures, including stories of crashes into poles with failed airbags. Hyundai has not issued any recall, but they probably should.

20 Structure problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/11/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact purchased the vehicle for its fuel economy and weight capacity to tow a trailer. At the dealer, the weight capacity was listed as 3,197 in the rear and 2,976 in the front. The contact received a recall letter, which decreased the weight capacity of the vehicle. The contact feels that the manufacturer was misleading since he believed that the vehicle could tow a certain amount of weight as discussed at the dealer. The contact does not want to drive the vehicle and feels that his family's lives could be in danger. The failure mileage was 4,000. Updated 09/10/08 updated 09/17/08.

21 Structure problem of the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/04/2008

My 2001 sante fe was making " creaking" noise by the passenger side rear tire. I made an appointment for it, but before the appointment I heard a loud thud and lost control of the vehicle. Fortunately I was only going 35 mph and was able to skid into a driveway. The rear control arm snapped off due to an excessive amount of rust. The other side is almost rusted through. The repair shop had never seen anything like it before.

22 Structure problem of the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/10/2008

For a few days prior to the incident, I thought I needed to have the brakes replaced on this vehicle. Everytime I applied the brakes, the car would swerve a little; then there would be a "thump" at the rear of the car. On the day of the incident, there was a significant noise at the rear of the car, so I looked in the back storage area thinking something was rolling around-found nothing. I continued driving a few miles, hearing the thumping noise again, I stopped and looked underneath the the rear of the vehicle thinking the spare tire bracket was broken--saw nothing. Later in the day, as I turned right there was a loud noise at the rear. I told myself to drive slowly--and then the right rear tire broke causing me to lose control of the car. Fortunately for myself, other drivers and Hyundai I was driving slow. The car was flatbedded to the Hyundai dealer, who told me that the rear trailering arm "snapped" off due to an impact. The service manager stated that he had never seen anything like that and wanted to wait for the company rep before deciding what to do. The rep insisted that rust had nothing to do with the part breaking and that I needed to pay 1100. 00 for the repair (which included a new brake line and shock due to the faulty part) the dealership then did not want to give me the part because it was "too rusty" to put in the car. This seems to be the 4th vehicle reporting the same problem. I do have the part and will be going to the local news media to complain about the safety issue not being addressed by the company.

23 Structure problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/22/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe. When driving over a small puddle of water, the brakes would lock. Usually when the failure occurs, the brake light and battery lights would illuminate for about 35 seconds and then the steering wheel would lock. After a short time, the brakes and steering column would unlock. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on many different occasions. The technician finally concluded that water was entering into one of the pulleys. However he stated that he could not remedy the failure. She called the manufacturer and a representative was sent out to inspect the vehicle. No assistance has been provided. The current mileage was 41,763. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000. Updated 01/1410 updated 01/20/10.

24 Structure problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/05/2007

I have a Hyundai Santa Fe. I have had three major issues with the car and one small cosmetic issure. The major issues have been with the structure of the car, the wheel axel, the alignment, and the engine block. All of these items have either been loose, broken, or defective. Yes, they keep fixing the car, but it's a new car. If I wanted a car that needed to be repaired weekly I would have kept or purchased an used car. I fear for my safety and the safety of my family riding in this car. We have been lucky so far that I have been able to catch these defects before we've gotten into a major accident.

25 Structure problem of the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/28/2002

Vehicle rattles and shakes when driving in city. Noise appears to come under the carriage. Taken several times to the dealer and they are unable to locate the source of the problem. Have a written complain with Hyundai.

26 Structure problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Consumer experiencing problems with windshield wiper blades, and has the impression that it is a common problem. The dealer told the consumer the wiper blades but be loosened from the windshield manually before they are turned on or they will not work. The dealer also told the consumer to try and find any loose nuts and re-tightened them, which the consumer did, which did not keep the wipers from stopping in the middle of operation. The consumer was not satisfied with the installation of the running boards and had them replaced at his own expense. The heater made a noise as if something was caught in the fan box.
