Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to illuminated air bag warning lights. The consumer stated there was a faulty sensor in the front passenger seat mat. The consumer was advised by the dealer that the air bag would not deploy.
This car is exhibiting the same behavior as other Sonata models from 2006 that have been recalled for the occupant classification system (OCS) in the right front seat. Thus with this issue, no air bag deployment could occur causing serious injury or death. I'm not sure why this particular VIN is not covered under a recall that spans all Hyundai Sonatas from 2006-2008. This has been brought to a dealership and was verified as the problem this car is exhibiting and this should be part of this recall. This is a major safety recall that should be covered and I would like more information as to why this would not be part of this recall, when the car is classified under the parameters of the recall and is exhibiting the signs of the problem the recall covers. This occurs whenever you turn on the vehicle and the sensor in the passenger seat malfunctions. Luckily, there has been no accident and thus no opportunity for the airbag to fail to deploy, but if it occurs, it will definitely lead to a hefty lawsuit.
The contact owned a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 55 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. As a result, the contact's vehicle left the roadway, entered the woods, and spun around several times. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the crash. The contact sustained neck, lower back, and head injuries that required medical attention. The contact was unaware of injuries in the other vehicle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot where it was deemed destroyed. The vehicle was not inspected to determine why the air bags failed to deploy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that in 2015, the vehicle was serviced at miller Hyundai (4455 vestal pkwy e vestal, NY 13850 877-386-0382) per a recall number: 88801f01 regarding the front driver and passenger side buckle pretensioner and air bags. The correct recall information was unavailable. In 2015, prior to the recall repair, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The diagnosis was unknown, but a spring was replaced. The failure mileage was 154,244.
Sensor in passenger seat cushion not working properly and will cause the airbag and seat belt light to illuminate and also causes the airbag to not deploy upon impact. This is a problem that should be a recall issued from Hyundai as there are millions of people that have this same complaint.
I was involved in a accident on December 15, 2015 the other driver cut across three lanes and into my car at mph 40. My vehicle was struck thrusting it into a small wall and pole. My seat belt unbuckled and the airbags did not deploy I think this is a manufacture defect.
I was coming of sanford avenue just turned on 3rd street had head on conlision head hit roof off car stomach hit steering wheel knees hit dash board was diagnosed with vertigo air bag did not deploy herd on radio car had recap on car because air bag did not deploy after car reck.
My vehicle lights for the ecs system, seat belt and airbag keeps illuminating. I took it to Hyundai here in jacksonville and was told that a diagnostic for $94, would need to be done to see why the esc light is on. The air bag light will go off when the seat cushion is recalibrated but, something is wrong with my seat belts(both), so it will stay on and therefor the air bags will not deploy on impact, I pray that I dont get into any accidents till I find out what the problem is. Why arent the seats belts part of the recall for the airbag system? they work inconjuction with each other. The esc was suppose to have been fixed in 09 but here it is 2014 and the same thing is happening again, the same problem as before. I have to pull over turn the car off and wait a minute to restart it only to have the light come on again once I start to drive. What is wrong with this car, it is suppose to be safe.
There is a recall on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata for issue code: b1448 which means OCS mat defect and this made my dash air bag illuminate at times, meaning the airbag wouldn't have deployed in case of an accident. Fortunately, the Hyundai dealership shop did not charge me to replace the passenger seat since it is a recall. However, before they began to process the b1448 fix, another "safety" issue code came up on their diagnostic test saying "seat belt buckle pretensioner: driver resistance is too high" and the dealership told me that this is also causing the air bag light to illuminate, thus the airbag may not deploy. Since my car warranty has expired and there is no safety recall on this specific issue, I have to pay a big bill out of my own pocket to replace the buckle pretensioner. This is a safety issue and there should be a recall on this. No one should pay anything for a safety issue. Upon web researching there has been a good number of people that have the same issue but yet there is no recall yet.
I started the car and noticed that the airbag warning light would not go out. I checked the owners manual and it said bring it to the dealer as soon as possible . The dealer charged 95. 00$ to diagnose the problem, and another $810 to change the 2 front seatbelt buckles. This is a safety item because the airbags may not deploy in case of an accident . Hyundai should recall these vehicles and fix the problem. I see that an investigation was opened on this problem , and would like tone included in the number of people complaining about this problem thanks for your time and consideration.
Air bag light has been on for six months. Got the recall notice about passenger occupant system which indicated that if the light stays on to bring the car to the dealership. I took the car to the dealership and was told that the system checked out okay. I told the service rep that the light was still on. He indicated that was a problem with the seat belt buckle. He also indicated that the air bag may or may not deploy in the case of an accident. This is a major safety issue. Hyundai should issue a recall on this apparent defect.
I received a letter explaining a recall for the sensor in the passenger seat which malfunctions. It stated that if my car does not display the airbag off light to call and start a case. I called and did so. I took my car to the Hyundai dealership where I purchased my car. I was told that I had to pay $95 for them to verify that was the issue. I left and called the number for Hyundai on my letter again. They sent a message to the dealership and told me to take the car back. I did so and left my car and got a loaner. They had my car for two weeks. I got my car back and it was repaired. Fast forward to July 2014, same thing started happening again. I called Hyundai and set up a case again. I called the dealership and was given an appointment to bring my car. I got a loaner again. I left my car on Monday and on Friday that same week my car was ready. I dont believe they sent my passenger seat to California again. It scares me to know thst the airbag may not deploy. I feel that Hyundai should have to give us replacement cars because these electrical issues are dangerous. Please make them do something for us. Im scared to dtive my car but have no choice. I tried to trade it in but I have to put down at least $1000.
Ocssettlement. Hyundai. Com dear representative: my car make and model is involved in the Hyundai airbag class action suit. I took my car so that the dealer could do the recalibrating to the seat on 8/27/2013. They told me before they sent it to California for the recalibrating to be done to the seat. The service advisor told me that due to an accident the impact jars the seat connection and causes codes and that the light will still illuminate when it came back and it is. He said I have to pay some $600. 00 to get something repaired and the attorney advised against me paying that is not my fault. The attorney for the class action already told me Hyundai is coming up with all kinds of reasons; even the inspector they sent seemed biased for the company. The attorney also stated that the car is under recall and if the light is on whatever they say doesn't matter that they have to offer me something under the settlement and they are not. The case involves the air bag lights being illuminated indicating that there is something is wrong with the system. Since the light remains illuminated and the system is not functioning properly, I and whoever rides with me are in danger because the air bag will not deploy. Hyundai will not repair without me paying. I should not pay. I have not had an impact. I got a letter from Hyundai today stating I should keep this letter in my vehicle and they listed that this contact should be written if I am unsatisfied. I am not satisfied and feel I am not getting the offer options in which I am entitled. Please inform me how I should proceed if better business bureau does not comply. I call the attorney over the class action and they inform I should be persistent and I have. But with Hyundai over the inspections, etc. , I feel this will not come out fair. Please inform what I need to do. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact crashed into the driver's side of a another vehicle. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. The contact and the front passenger sustained head and back injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
In 2013, my airbag light came on and would not go off. I learned that a recall had been issued so I took the car to the dealership. The front passenger's seat was removed and sent away for repair. However, after this repair was made, the air bag light came on again and would not go off. I took the car back to the dealership and was told that the seat belt pretension/buckle was defective and would need to be replaced at a cost to me of over $400. Since that time, I have done extensive research and have found that this is a very common problem with Hyundai Sonatas. As of yet, I understand that no recall has been issued but that this matter is under investigation. This is a serious safety concern as the air bags may not deploy in an accident. I was specifically told this at the dealership. I urge you to take action and issue a recall on this. I, like most others in this situation, cannot afford to spend $400+ dollars to have this repaired. However, I also cannot in good conscience allow passengers to sit in the front seat knowing the air bags may not deploy. Of course, I also am concerned for my own safety as a driver and the air bag on the driver's side as well. It seems as though Hyundai knows that this is a problem, but obviously, unless the NHTSA issues a recall, no action will be taken and those of us in this situation will continue to put ourselves and our passengers at risk. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter!.
My air bag light stays on all the time. In a crash my air bag may not deploy, this is a safety issue. Looking into the computer I'm not the only one with this problem. This should be a recall matter.
Back when I purchased this 2006 Sonata I went back in airbag light was on the car was in less than ten minutes dealer said all set and I went in to a local garage for inspection but the car legally shouldn't pass inspection due to said airbag issue and the gentleman put it through but said airbags will not deploy due to the fuse was pulled put one in been on since and it is all over Hyundai forum same problem/2 my front suspension is rattling bad and come to find out same thing on Hyundai forum they always don't know what this noise is/3 my check engine light on code search says evap leak but need 2 say yes its not fuel cap this is a known Sonata problem fuel tank is plastic and there is a part in top that is metal rust out and causes fuel tank to crack this part alone is 1500 plus labor these cars are lemons will not buy another one this is all in 2 yrs of owning not counting there was a recall I just had done but never got notice on any prior to his I want to see all that were supposedly done thanks very dis satisfied customer.
I just had to get the driver side seat belt buckle replaced because the check air bag light was on. I've seen many other reports similar to the one I'm reporting here. A year and a half ago I had to get the passenger seat belt buckle replaced for the same issue. I was told that without getting these replaced when I did the air bag would not deploy, which is a huge safety issue. Searching NHTSA found quite a few similar reports, and searching the internet found a ton more. This appears to be a defect impacting the safety of at least this car's make and model as the air bags would not deploy, and potentially other makes or models (I only checked my own). I urge the NHTSA to investigate the issue due to the frequency of complaints and the impact to the passengers' safety.
Brought my vehicle to dealer due to 'air bag' warning light remaining on continuously. Dealer states that it is the passenger seat belt tensioner that needs to be replaced for approximately $350. 00+. They did not have the part in stock. Came home and googled problem and found that this is a very common safety issue with this vehicle. I do not see any recall listed for this issue yet. It is a safety issue that is discovered quite often with this year, make, model car in that with this problem the air bags will not deploy. Is there any research going on now related to this problem and will a recall be issued in the near future?.
My airbag warning light has been illuminated for a few years now. I have brought it to a few Hyundai dealerships and they tell me it is because of a problem with a sensor in my seat belts. They also tell me there is no recall and it will cost between 500-700 to fix it. While advising me that is it a serious safety risk and may cause my airbag to not deploy in the event of a crash. I don't understand how there is no recall on this yet. As the dealership has also informed me this is a common problem with the 2006 Sonata's.
I was involved in an accident and noticed that the air bags never deployed. I noticed that the passenger air bag sensor light kept flashing and now it never comes on. Now my air bag sensor light in the dash came on so I took it in to have it looked at and the mechanic told me that there was a recall by Hyundai to repair the issue. I called the dealer to see if they were aware of the recall and they told me that not all of the cars were recalled for this issue. So now my air bags have been deactivated because of the bad sensor and is not safe to be driving. I'm looking to get this issue covered by a Hyundai dealer.
We own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that has an air bag warning light on. Our dealer has tried 3 times unsuccessfully to fix it. A month or two ago our abs and air bag lights came on. We paid to have it fixed and a week or so later the air bag light came on and went back off a few times over the next week. It then stayed on so we took it back to the dealer. We were told it was the front passenger seat belt connector that needed replaced again. They replaced it again free of charge and about a week later it came back on again. A few weeks went by and the light remained on. We took it back to the dealer and they said the part was defective so they would replace it again free of charge. Less than a week went by and the light again came on. We had it back in to the dealer today, the fourth time for the same problem and now they say it is the same part but this time its the drivers side instead of the passenger side. We believe the root of the problem is and always has been in adjusting the position of the driver's seat. Thinking back, every time the light has come back on it has been on my lunch hour when I decided to eat lunch in the car and I moved my seat back all the way. I have read numerous complaints online about the same issue and cases where airbags did not deploy in a crash. Hyundai needs to take responsibility and fix this safety issue.
Previously reported suspension failure caused accident. Air bag light did not deploy but came on and stayed on giving error code. Today the auto body shop doing the repairs to my car stated that the seat belt pre-tensioner's in both driver and passenger seats are not working and both need replaced as well as the air bag sensors on the driver and passenger side.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technicians stated that the air bag sensor located in the front passenger side seat belt buckle needed to be replaced. The technicians advised that until the repairs were performed, the air bags would not deploy if the vehicle was involved in a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
Vehicle did not deploy airbags due to front end fender bender. Vehicle indicated "air bag" sign prior to incident. After the incident, vehicle was serviced; however, the "air bag" sign re-appeared after a few months. Another accident on 7/3/2013. Front end fender-bender. Air bag did not deploy again. No incident report in either case.
Air bag light on in 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS v6 with under 17k miles. Air bag will not deploy with light on. Safety hazard. Told by Hyundai that it will cost $400-$1800 to fix. Major safety issue.
The driver side "airbag" warning light turned on and has been on for about 3 months and the passenger "airbag" light is not working properly either. I am worried that the airbags will not deploy in an accident involving myself or a passenger. A lot of people with this car year and model have been reporting to have the same problem.
I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. I bought it new from henderson Hyundai in henderson, nv. My car has now 73,831 miles and I have had every required maintenance done to my car by the dealership that sold it to me. A week ago the driver's airbag light came on so decided to take it to the dealer so they can fix it. To my surprise they said I would need to replace the passenger seat, the whole seat, and that it would cost me $1800 to repair. He also mentioned something about the insulation in the wiring being gone. My car has never been into an accident so the airbags have never been deployed. Right now, because of this problem, none of the airbags in my car will deploy should I have an accident. I tried to make the dealership understand this is a safety issue Hyundai should fix since it is obvious this is a matter of a faulty system and not normal wear and tear. I can not afford paying $1800 for something they can not even guarantee will not happen again. I strongly believe Hyundai motor inc should be held liable for this type of poor craftsmanship that makes driving my car unsafe.
The air bag light stays on. . The dealer says it's the sensor under the passenger seat which is a $1,400 repair. When you sit in the passenger seat the airbag warning goes on and off but the light on the dash stays on all the time. A recall was issued for this problem. The recall number is 08v161000. I went to the dealer and they said my car was not part of the recall. I called Hyundai and they told me only cars built in may and June of 2006 would be honored for the recall. My car was built in July 2006 (according to Hyundai corporate office). Why would they only recall cars built in may and June? obviously they did not know the problem existed during the production of my car? what makes my car seat parts different from those produced in may and June? I asked if they had part numbers that were in the recall and if they changed design in July? they could not or would not answer me. My bet is they issued the recall to satisfy a few if any and turn-down all others to save money since this is a costly repair. From what I understand the seat has to be removed and sent out to be calibrated (cost estimate $1,400). The bottom line is my air bags will not deploy if the light is on and Hyundai has a long long history of air bag issues. What can I do to get them to honor my car in the recall? if I were involved in a collision my airbags would not deploy which could cause serious injury.
I was driving home from work and hit a deer with the front of the car. The airbags did not deploy.
My 2006 Hyundai Sonata has the air bag lite on after I start the vehicle. I took the vehicle into the dealership and they informed me after a diagnostic check that my seat belt assembly l/f preteensioner has high resistance causing the air bag light to stay on. This item is not covered by the warranty and would cost in excess of $400. 00. My complaint is that I feel this item should be covered by the manufacturer. The Hyundai dealership technician informed me that the item would cause the air bags to not deploy in an accident and can cause the seatbelt to automatically release. This definitely seems like its a safety issue item. My vehicle has not been in any accidents and is well taken care of so the only cause for malfunction to an item like that would be defective manufacturing of the seatbelt equipment. My vehicle was purchased brand new and although it has high mileage from highway miles it has been well maintained. Please take the time to look into this matter before someone is seriously injured in an accident.
Not sure if this is the right forum for this issue, if not, please direct me where I can lodge my complaint. Hyundai motors provided a warranty repair notice for my 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS stating that the passenger airbag may not deploy under certain conditions. When I went to the dealer where I purchased the car (75 miles away from my house), the dealer said that they could not diagnose the problem unless I brought the person who sits in the passenger seat that causes the airbag light to not stay indicated. The person is my daughter, and pulling her out of school just to indicate that the passenger air bag is malfunctioning is not a reasonable expectation so that the produce defect can be repaired. The passenger air bag sensor will not indicate correctly if the vehicle is running and my daughter sits in the car.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light remains illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure indicates that the air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash. Two months ago, she took the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair. The first time, the dealer reset the light, and the second time they replaced the sensor in the passenger seat. The air bag light has illuminated again within the last thirty days and is still lit. The Hyundai dealer stated that they could not repair the failure, but would like the contact to drive 200 miles so that an inspection could be performed. The manufacturer stated that they will send out a customer service satisfaction notice for all customers experiencing air bag failure. They further stated that they will develop a remedy because they are unsure of the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 25,000. Updated 7/3/08 when the brakes are applied the seat belt will release and not lock. When the accelerator is applied, the seat belt will not release.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 35 mph another vehicle drove through a stop sign and crashed into the contact. The air bag did not deploy. The dealer advised the spouse that the vehicle had to be hit at a certain angle for the air bag to deploy. The driver sustained a broken hand and there was $7,492. 80 worth of damage to the vehicle. The current mileage is 29,983, and the failure mileage was 25,939. Updated 08/14/08 updated 08/14/08.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 45mph, a vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the vehicle and the vehicle spun around. A police report is available. The contact sustained injuries to his neck and left side. The air bags did not deploy. The dealer and purchase date were unknown. The approximate current and failure mileages were 230,000. Updated 4/2/08 updated 04/02/08.
My 2006 Hyundai Sonata lost control after driving through a patch of black ice. As a result, there was a collision with a fire hydrant, which cause severe front end damage to the car, as well as the fire hydrant. My driver side air bag never deployed. I have injured my right thumb from the impact of the collision, resulting in a torn ligament and a great deal of pain. I believe this injury could have been avoided if the air bag had deployed. The car still remains in a repair shop, where none of the replacement parts seem to line up correctly. My insurance company and the repair shop are both aware of the air bag not deploying. The repair shop claimed they can not look into the cause of why the air bag never deployed. The insurance company could not provide any help either. I won't bother consulting the Hyundai dealer since they can not provide any solutions, from what I've read, as well as having other unrelated problems with the incompetence of the dealership in the past.
