The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The red warning airbag light stays on and it’s visible as I drive. Does this mean the airbags are not going to work should I be involved in an auto accident?.
The airbag light in my car stays illuminated and I’m not sure why. No auto/body shops will touch it and the dealership is backed up so bad it’ll be a month and a half before someone can look at it. My car can’t pass inspection like this and if I were to get into an accident it would be extremely dangerous if the airbags didn’t go off.
My air bag warning light is constantly illuminated. I went on line and found Hyundai 2006 Sonata recall rconl-08v161-6944 and recall rconl-08v161-9148 which covers this problem. I also found Hyundai technical service bulletin number 15-be-002 which provides the service procedures to repair this symptom. Can't believe it simply involves two inexpensive wire ties. The recall letter states that this problem will be repaired at "no charge to you" and Hyundai will "provide you with a vehicle while your vehicle is being serviced. I am unable to pass my states (ri) vehicle inspection without this repair. I took my car to a local Hyundai dealer and was told that when my VIN number was inputted, my vehicle was not included in this recall and there would be a $150. 00 diagnostic fee on top of any repair fees. I am not going to pay hundreds of dollars to insert two cable ties, especially when this problem has already been recognized as a Hyundai problem.
Airbag light is on all of the time on my car. I was told some of these cars were recalled for this issue, but it looks like mine was not a part of that recall. It will cost around $1900 to repair, which is currently about half of the value of the car. The vehicle has not been in any crash and prior to the light coming on there were no other issues. It seems as though this is a pretty common issue with this particular vehicle and I feel like the manufacturer should help with repair/replacement since this is a safety issue.
My airbag light has come on. The censor in the passenger seat has failed and isn't recognizing the weight of the passenger. The recall is active for several 2006 Hyundai Sonatas, but when I enter my VIN, my Sonata does not show that recall. The problem has been confirmed by the Hyundai dealership. It is available for inspection upon request.
Passenger occupant classification sensor fails to properly identify whether an adult or child is sitting in the front passenger seat causing the airbag to deploy when it shouldn't. If a child is in the front passenger seat and we get into an accident, the child could be hurt or killed by the airbag. We brought it into the Hyundai dealership after receiving a recall notice that it may fail to properly detect whether a child is in the seat or not. At the time of the recall, the dealerships instructions were to place a certain amount of weight on the seat and if the airbag was still disabled then it was determined to be working correctly. I have since been made aware of a Hyundai TSB that came out a couple of years later that stated in all cases the seat cushion was to be removed and sent back to Hyundai for recalibration. In June 2021 the airbag light came on due to a code b1448. In September 2021 I found another TSB by Hyundai stating that they have extended the warranty on the passenger OCS to 15 years, unlimited mileage. The inspection report for the b1448 was on June 7, 2021 and we purchased the car in July 2006. When I called the closest Hyundai dealership regarding the issue they said I was 2 months past the 15 year warranty and there was nothing they could do. I explained that that the code presented itself before the 15 year warranty. It upsets me that I took it in for the airbag recall and the faulty OCS was not replaced at that time. Now I'm stuck driving around a car with the airbag light on or purchase an OCS emulator to fool the system into thinking there is someone sitting in the seat. While this won't fix the problem of the airbag deploying when it shouldn't it doesn't fix the root cause of a faulty OCS mat that Hyundai is well aware of. The vehicle is available for inspection.
I financed my 2006 Hyundai Sonata from a maryland state car dealer. At the time of my purchase, the dealer didn’t disclose to me that the vehicle had a branded title. The branded title was discovered by toco warranty when I requested a auto extended warranty quote. I contacted the mva, and was informed that it’s illegal to finance a vehicle in the state of maryland with a branded title since the actual miles are unknown and this is required by dealers in maryland in order to finance vehicles to consumers. Although I was no longer required to make payments to the dealer, my vehicle has a abs malfunction, brake line failure, that has caused brake fluid leakage and brake failure as well as a critical control arm needed repair. I’m disabled and on a fixed income, and purchased this vehicle to assist in getting to and from medical appointments. The total cost of repair from mr. Tire auto service centers estimâtes at $2700 and triple aaa auto repair centers estimates $ 4700 with $ 2800 to get my vehicle in safe driving condition. Because of my low fixed income, I’m unable to make another vehicle purchase without at least $4,600 for a down payment and I don’t have the money for a new purchase nor to make needed repairs.
The airbag light is on. Malfunction in occupant classification sensor is detected by the Hyundai dealer.
Esc/abs lights came on while driving and was hard to control the car acceleration was hard and braking seemed to go down low enough to scare you. I made it home the lights went off but back on another doing the same thing happened where acceleration seemed to be dragging anf brakes felt low this is dangerous and now I do not drive it since these lights come on often. I had the car checked and dtc codes show multiple code for abs, esc, airbags all of which have been fixed but that did not help the esc/abs light still come and make braking/acceleration hard at times.
Faulty seat belt pre tensioner.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The contact also stated that the air bag warning light was related to the seat belt which was repaired before; however, the air bag light continued to remain illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While merging into the traffic. It was recently involved in a front end collision. The crash was so bad that it affected the radiator and even broke the coolant reservoir. The main frame of the car is also damaged. Even after this level of serious crash, the airbags still didn't inflate. No airbag was deployed. I suffered some injuries. This brings me to question the safety of this car. My model was premium sports package with 3. 3 v6 engine.
Esc light com's on randomly causing car to decelerate becomes hard to steer and car looses power. Have had various things done to car but it continues to happen randomly. Diagnostics from different mechanics indicate electrical problems am told care is unsafe to drive at 83,000 miles. This should be a recall2006 hyuandi Sonata.
I done had 2 accidents in this car, each time a deer ran out in front of me while driving 60 mph or better and I hit it and tore my front end up both times and each time the airbags never came out, so this last time, my car was totaled and the airbag never popped out. . .
B1448 recall.
1) air bag dashboard light keeps on 2) passenger side lights sometimes showed no passenger even there is a passenger (this vehicle has been repaired by dealer for this issue).
Airbags off signs are suddenly appearing in the vehicle. Passenger air bag off sign also appearing. Vehicle has never been involved in accident. Hyundai has fault design and have to fix this.
I was involved in an accident the front was smashed in the vehicle was declared a total loss and the airbags and not the ploy and I need help.
I turned on ignition and, as usual, all dash lights came on then disappeared, as usual. However, the "passenger air bag off" light returned on and the warning chimes have been ringing ever since . If a passenger sits on the passenger seat then the light stays off. Jiggling of wires underneath the seat do not fix the problem.
Seat belt light stays on all the time.
Seat belt tensioner causing air bag safety problem.
Air bag comes on and stays on.
Dear sir or madam, my 2006 Sonata has being illuminated the air bag lamp. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belt buckle needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not repaired. Please investigate if will determine if 2006 Hyundai Sonata car should be recalled. Thanks, eungul.
I am another Hyundai 2006 owner with the passenger seat belt on who paid $105. 00 for the diagnostic which returned code b1706 having to do with the pretensioner and seat belt. Not according to Hyundai applicable to the recall. I now have to pay another $350. 00 to have this repair done. This should be a recall. Shame on Hyundai, I bought this car partly because of the air bag system and the desire for a safe vehicle. How can they split hairs and claim this is not a widespread problem?.
The air bag went on to indicate the air bag would not work. Considered this a safety issue. Took it to the dealer and indicated it was not covered and had to replace the passenger side seatbeat pretensioner assembly.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repairs under NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags) however, the contact was informed that the parts were unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Car was taken to Hyundai dealership for OCS right front passenger seat recall. A few hours later dealer called to advise that there was no problem with the OCS air bag. I was told the code associated with the light being on indicating "passenger air bag off" related to the seat belt tensioner not working, not the OCS. Since the seat belt is a safety issue, I asked the dealer to take care of it at no charge to me. The dealer (rick case Hyundai in davie, FL) refused to do so saying that it was not covered in the OCS recall and the car was out of warranty. I then called Hyundai customer service and requested that Hyundai repair the seat belt tensioner at no charge to me. They read me a prepared statement stating that this was not covered under the OCS recall and would not take care of it because the car was out of warranty. After I spoke to a case manager at Hyundai, they agreed to call the dealership and see if they could work something out with the dealership for the seat belt repair. Hyundai was supposed to call me back within a week to tell me what was worked out. They did not. When I called back a couple of weeks later, Hyundai again read me the prepared statement saying this problem was not covered under the recall. I reiterated that the seat belt tensioner was a safety issue and I expected them to repair it. They continued to refuse to take responsibility for the repair. I advised I was going to report this safety issue to NHTSA. Hyundai was unconcerned. As NHTSA should see, several Hyundai Sonata owners have reported this same seat belt problem to NHTSA. My passenger seat is rarely used, so this seems to be a Hyundai safety defect for which the dealers and Hyundai should be required to make a recall and repair at their expense. I am also concerned that the passenger seat was not removed and sent to Hyundai for analysis as noted in the OCS recall.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under a recall NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags), however three month later the same problem recurred while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 60,000. Jr.
"air bag" light stays illuminated at all times. Received recall notice for the OCS on 10/29/13, called dealership, they said it would cost me to have it checked out. I thought that was the whole purpose of a recall notice. There is a problem and should be fixed at no charge to customer.
2006 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to air bag recall notice. The consumer would like to know, why the diagnosis was not covered under the recall. The OCS test resulted in a pass/compliant, but the passenger seat belt buckle pre-tensioner didn't pass.
I turned the car on and the dashboard lights indicated all affected parts listed above went on. Drove the car for 3 miles and shut it off for 2 hours. Turned the car back on and had the same problem. I've read many owners with the same issue, but haven't seen a resolution this this problem. This is a very serious issues god forbid the air bags don't eject in a accident. What do I do??.
2006 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to a class action suit of the passenger seat " OCS" issue. The consumer stated he has been attempting to get the passenger seat fixed for years. The consumer stated the occupant classification system (OCS) failed to identify when someone was sitting in the front passenger seat. As a result, the air bag system was disabled.
91 year old was driving and hit by another car. The car drove him into a tree. The air bag went off and produced sufficient internal injuries that he died. The air bag went off too hard. If there were no air bag, he would have lived.
