Eight problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata based on all problems reported for the 2006 Sonata.
Brakes are locking up and the abs light is constantly coming on. Whenever vehicle is in motion the brakes calipers tend to stick and the abs light comes on periodically.
Esc/abs lights came on while driving and was hard to control the car acceleration was hard and braking seemed to go down low enough to scare you. I made it home the lights went off but back on another doing the same thing happened where acceleration seemed to be dragging anf brakes felt low this is dangerous and now I do not drive it since these lights come on often. I had the car checked and dtc codes show multiple code for abs, esc, airbags all of which have been fixed but that did not help the esc/abs light still come and make braking/acceleration hard at times.
2006 Sonata: the esc abs light comes on and pushing the on/off switch does not put it out. If I shut the car off and re start, the dash light goes out sometimes; may return the next time I start the car. .
The abs light would sometime come on and off, causing the radio and lights to click on and off. This has been going since I brought the car.
Under regular driving conditions the brake pedal would become so hard that they could not be pressed down, the speed would decline to 5 miles per hour and the car would start smoking. The abs and esc light would come and wouldn't go off until car is turned off. This s due to a faulty abs hecu unit (hydraulic and electronic control unit) and the right front upper control arm. I contacted Hyundai who wouldn't pay the dealer to fix my 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS v6 with 65,263 miles. They advised that the isn't under warranty, however, the abs hecu unit is faulty. This is a safety concern for myself and fellow drivers.
Campaign #092 was replaced on my vehicle at bel air Hyundai on 9/14/2010. The vehicle was there for other regular service and the recall was performed. At that time, the switch was not a problem. No check engine light and we were unaware that this recall was even performed. I’m sure it was listed on my paperwork. This week, my check engine light comes on and my abs light stays on. I took it to autozone. The code was p0504. Faulty stop lamp brake switch. I looked it up online, unaware that it was already replaced once. Called bel air Hyundai, made my appointment, took the car in on August 29, 2014. I was told by leon that my car did not qualify for this recall. Not that it had been replaced, but that my VIN did not qualify. I took my vehicle back because I could not afford the $160 repair on the switch that I really and truly thought would be covered by this recall. I called Hyundai customer service and opened case# 6843293. The gentlemen I spoke with gave me the information regarding the completed campaign from 9/14/2010 and suggested that I call bel air Hyundai back again and that they should replace this switch for free. I did as he suggested and was told by leon that this was not their policy to perform recalls twice and the repair was going to cost me $160. Needless to say, I’m a little unhappy about all of the work that I’ve had to put into this and I’m still going to be out money for this repair. This is a faulty switch as per the recall. Who is to say the 2nd one is not faulty as well?.
I received notification from my dealership that my rear disc brakes on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata needed to be replaced (pads, rotors). My car currently has 56k miles on it, and any car I've ever owned never need a rear brake job (pads only) before 100k miles. The front disc brake pads were just replaced in November, and during that visit the technicians stated that all brakes (after the job) were fine. Additional issues with car, repaired during recall: esc light displayed on dashboard abs light displayed on dashboard airbag light displayed on dashboard.
I had noticed at first the crack in the dashboard in 2006 right after I had purchased my car. They replaced the dashboard, but not correctly the first time. When I finally got my car back, I attempted to turn the headlights in my car on, at that time all of the interior lights of my car went out. There were wires that were apparently switched. At this time I called the dealership again and informed them of the new problem. This issue was subsequently fixed. After they replaced the dashboard I started to have probelms with the driver and passenger side air bag lights going on. The turned them off and stated it was my fault. About three months later both air bag lights came on again. At this time I took it to another dealer who looked up information on the computer and stated that it must have been my fault again. Someone went out to the car and shut them off but no paperwork was written up. Then another 3 months later the lights came on again and there was another crack in the dashboard around the passenger side air bag. I called the original dealer again and they ordered another dashboard for the car. At this time I asked them again to check to see about the airbag lights. They have had my car for a week now (I still do not have it back). While all the air bag lights issue was happening, there is also another issue with the abs and esc (electronic stability control) lights also coming on and not going off. I have been informed the the abs and esc light was coming on because there is a braking issue with the car. And the airbag lights that keep coming on and staying on is because of a sensor issue with the passenger side seat. They are not sure why this keeps happening. They are also not sure what caused the brake issue with the abs and esc lights.
