Two problems related to brake grinding noise have been reported for the 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata based on all problems reported for the 2006 Sonata.
During braking, brake rotors failed and resulted in difficulty braking. Grinding noise noticed for several days prior. Upon checking about this particular issue with Sonata's online, I determined that there seems to be a prevalent issue with Sonata brake rotors prematurely wearing away. Again, in 9/2011, I noticed the same problem on the same rear rotors, and will have to get this replaced. Initial cost was very high, as the auto shop noted that the rotors and calipers were beyond repair and needed to be replaced.
1. Rear passenger side repeat rattling thumping noise in suspension at speeds below 40 mph causing disturbance and agitation to cabin driver or passengers 2. Rear passenger side droning-humming echo noise more noticeable over 40 mph and at steady maintained speed causing disturbance and agitation to cabin driver or passengers 3. Sloshing noise of gasoline in gas tank after the gas tank is filled and a grinding noise when the brakes are depressed in and around the gas tank area after the gas tank is filled causing disturbance and agitation to cabin driver or passengers.
