2008 Hyundai Sonata : received recall for passenger air bag light several months ago, taken to dealership and told car was not part of recall even though passenger air bag light which shows that air bag system is deactivated came on when passenger was in front seat intermittently. Now driver side air bag light on steady, mechanic states sensor issue and air bag willnot deploy in crash, called Hyundai and informed 'after some digging' my car may be covered under OCS recall??? Hyundai call center assisted me in getting appointment with dealership in a few days, unsure what repairs will be done. Also both visors are broken, will not stay up, issue with visibility,.
Wife was traveling to work at 0550 on rt. 147, when a deer jumped in front of car. She hit the deer, with the cruise set for 65 mph. The entire front of the car was pushed into the engine compartment. Luckily there were no injuries, but the air bags did not deploy. Police were notified and a report filed. We have contacted Hyundai with our terms, but have yet to hear from them.
The morning of the flash freeze on February 21, 2014, my daughter was turning left at an intersection when she lost control of the car due to slick roads. When she stepped on the brake, it slid and crashed head onto a traffic light pole. Part of the traffic light broke off as a result of the impact. Her airbag did not deploy. Her chest and mouth hit the steering wheel. She was in a lot of pain and it hurt her to breathe so was sent for x-rays. She didn't have any broken ribs but may have had internal bruising because she needed physical therapy for several weeks and a chipped tooth. When I called Hyundai and told her what happened, the representative said the airbag should have deployed. I was mailed out paperwork to fill out. I completed all the requested information. They then inspected the car. After a few weeks, I received a letter stating the accident did not merit the airbag deployment. They closed my case without any further conversation. I called after I received the letter and the representative said this was Hyundai's final decision and there was nothing more they can do for me.

The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle was maneuvered abruptly to avoid an object and swayed off the road into a ditch and crashed into concrete. The vehicle then rolled and landed upside down onto the roof. The air bags did not deploy with the impact. The driver and front seat passenger sustained severe body injuries. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Js.
Both at a complete stop while in gear and while moving at about 35 mph with my wife in the front passenger seat the air bag light remained on. In this vehicle that light is supposed to go off when someone over 85lbs sits in the front passenger seat. Took video of three incidents over a period of two days. Spoke to jenkins Hyundai, ocala, FL where we purchased the car & they were unable to pull a code. They were also uninterested in the videos and stated that the front seat sensor is calibrated for 115 lbs +/-. As my wife is 128 lbs they feel that it is well within limits & that sometimes the airbag sensor will not sense her presence. I thought the limit was 85 lbs for small children. If we have an accident with my wife in the front passenger seat the airbags might not deploy.
My 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS has a "passenger airbag off" light that lights up even when a grown adult is in the seat. I fear that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of an accident even when an adult is sitting in the passenger seat. This light has been illuminating for the past 2 years. I took it to a Hyundai dealer in illinois, and the dealer refused to fix the issue, saying it was not covered by a certain recall.

I t boned a another person front end of car was completely smashed in my car was totaled . My airbag sensor was checked at the north little rock service hyn Sonata. 2008 it was cleared and said to be ok. . My air bags did not deploy . The police were surprised they did not go off considering my whole front end was smashed and move backwards a good 2 feet completely across my front end they made note of it in the report and did my insurance company . I did not seek medical attention . The next couple of days my neck was tight . .
I was involved in a front end collision with a 30ft mound/railroad track. My airbags did not deploy. There was a significant amount of damage, enough to deem the car a "total loss", yet none of the airbags deployed, I suffered physical injuries to top half of by body by literally slamming into the steering wheel and windshield. Had my air bags deployed there would have been minimal injuries to my body.
2008 Hyundai Sonata. There is a recall but we are told ours is not part of the recall. However at least 75% if the time when I or my husband are in the passenger seat the passenger airbag off light is illuminated. We have taken it in to Hyundai over and over, they have reprogrammed it several times even replaced the entire seat but we still have the same problem. The seat does not recognize me or anyone as an adult, computer registers me as not being heavy enough and I weigh almost 200lbs. I am told by Hyundai they will not give us a loaner till the problem is resolved and they are not responsible is we are in an accident and the airbag does not deploy and it causes more serious injury. It has been over a week since the seat was replaced and they have made no determination other than our seat is not under warranty. We have been taking it in for this problem since last summer, not long after it was purchased it!! what can we do?.
