Tl the contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed her of NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000 (air bags) which he linked to the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to gurnee Hyundai (6251 grand Ave, gurnee, IL 60031) where a diagnostic test was performed and the contact was informed that the occupant classification system mat needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,900.
Red airbag warning light is on. Passenger air bag light always off, even if seat is empty. Red passenger seatbelt light always flashing until seat belt is latched, even if there is no one sitting in seat. This is while vehicle is in motion. Received b1448 error code. Dealer says VIN isn't in the recall. I have called 2 local Hyundai dealers and Hyundai corporate. Same answer.
The airbag warning light came on and has stayed on.
Front passenger seat airbag occupant sensor mat is defective the airbag warning light is on continuously. The front passenger seat belt warning l;ight flashes when there is on occupant unless it buckled.
Airbag indicator warning light stays on after turning the engine on.
During routine use, while a passenger was in the front seat and I was driving on the highway, the airbag warning light illuminated. The error code was b1448, which appears to be associated with a malfunctioning occupancy sensor. While there is a recall of other 2008 Sonatas for similar problems, the dealer and Hyundai claim that my vehicle is not covered under the recall. I am concerned that Hyundai has incorrectly excluded vehicles from this recall. This malfunction appears to result in the passenger airbag being disabled, which could increase the risk of injury to passengers. Please advise if there is anything that can be done to correct this issue for myself and others similarly impacted by the malfunction. The warning has not gone away, and reappears after being reset.
I was in a parking lot with the car turned off and used the keyless entry fob to open the trunk. The trunk flew up so quickly that the hydraulic hinge support, that props it open, broke off at the top. The abs & esc lights stay on when the car is running. Sometimes while I¿m driving those 2 warning lights will flash off, then back on a few seconds later. When that happens my brakes don¿t work correctly, and make a rubbing sound that I can feel through the brake pedal. The automotive instructor at the college I work at looked at the brakes and it¿s the calipers sticking. The dashboard srs warning light stays on, and the passenger safety belt light flashes constantly when the car is running. It doesn¿t matter if there is someone in the passenger seat or not. The tpms malfunction indicator is the most recent warning light to come on and stay on until the car is turned off. Seems like Hyundai produced nothing but lemons for quite a stretch and not much is being done to help the consumer¿.

Air bag warning light came on when driving and passanger seat belt light flashes when a passanger is present, even when the passanger seat belt is buckled. The dealer said it was due to a faulty sensor in the passager seat buckle and was not covered. I still have not fixed, but I must before next state inspection. I am reporting because I saw recent report of investigation into this matter.
Front passenger warning light:"passenger air bag off" remains lit even when occupied. Hazard: do not know if air bag is activated or not. Bad OCS module? want recall honored 08v161000. Front visor remains straight down position blocking visibility. When moved to the right blocks entry/exit from vehicle by hitting people in the head. Hazard! what do I do if mfg. Refuses to fix these items--my recourse??.
The other day, I found the srs airbag warning light keeps on on the instrument cluster and then I found that the seat belt warning light in the front passenger's side is also on and the "passenger air bag off" indicator is turned off when there is no passenger or luggage on the seat. I went to the local dealer and it turned out to be that vehicle has no communication from occupant classification system (OCS) module under the front passenger's seat.

My 2008 Sonata with VIN 5npet46cx8h392800 does not recognize smaller adult passengers resulting in illumination of the "passenger air big off" light in the center console. I noticed this around 2009-2010. I did research this problem online and noted that a recall was issued (recall number 08v161000), which affected the vehicle's "occupant classification system" or OCS. At the time, there was not a method to research my specific VIN, so I brought the car to tameron Hyundai in birmingham, al in the 30-50k mile range. Tameron Hyundai did not perform extensive testing, but rather had a "130 lb" mechanic sit in the vehicle and claimed that my passenger air bag "occupant classification system" or OCS was in working order. The car continued to fail to recognizing smaller adults. However, more recently when a larger adult passenger sits in the passenger side that can trigger the passenger OCS, the red dash air bag warning light illuminates on the dash. Immediately when I noticed the change in the operational status of the vehicle, I called Hyundai customer care regarding this issue. They created the case number 10343035 for reference to my case, and referred me to frank Hyundai. I took the vehicle to frank Hyundai where the problem as a malfunctioning passenger OCS which was the subject of the recall above. Both frank Hyundai and Hyundai customer care advised me that my vehicle's VIN number was not subject to the recall on the OCS (recall number 08v161000). The cost of repair was greater than the vehicle's value. I was easily able to afford a replacement vehicle, so I disposed of the vehicle and obtained a new vehicle. However, I am concerned about the safety of others who still drive similar vehicles. I think some Sonatas may have been overlooked in recall 08v161000, and I think the campaign should be extended to other vins.
The air bag system stays off when my wife (120 pounds) is seated in the front passenger seat about 50% of the time. When first taken to a dealership with my wife, they refused to do anything because the warning light did not go on. The problem still continued. Another dealer sent the seat to California to be repaired in March 2009. The problem still persists. Now, Hyundaiusa wants me to return to the dealership again with my wife or someone of similar stature. This time, a Hyundai regional representative will be present. Hyundai USA consumer affairs would not give any more information on what the process is if the problem persists thereafter nor would they give me the name and/or contact information of the anyone to speak to. They said they would forward on my case and I may or may not be contacted by someone at Hyundai USA with answers to my questions. Otherwise, I just have to wait to hear what the Hyundai rep has to say when my appointment is finally scheduled. Currently, waiting to hear from the dealer.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Sonata. The contact noticed that the air bag warning light would constantly illuminate on the instrument panel when his small statured wife sat in the front passenger seat. The vehicle was repaired twice according to NHTSA campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags). Both remedies have been insufficient in properly repairing the failure. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The failure and current mileages were 7,000.
