Passenger seat airbag light is on all the time. According to the manual it needs to be repaired as soon as possible because if there is an accident the airbags will not deploy. I was browsing the internet and found that many Hyundai Sonatas are having the same problem on old and new models. My car is a 2011 Sonata.
Airbag light in the dash randomly came on and will not turn off. The car was never hit, never in an accident or involved in any incident to cause the light to come on. The light has remained on for 2 months now and will not turn off, meaning if I were in an accident the airbags will not deploy.
On Sunday 03/13/2016 at 1957 hours a collision occurred between a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and 2000 Ford expedition. The collision resulted in the death of the driver of the Hyundai. The collision was head on in nature at and speeds greater than 40 mph. The airbags in the Sonata failed to deploy. This is an on going felony investigation. My name if ofc. The airbag light is continuously on without being in an accident and when the vehicule is not in motion. This means the airbags will not deploy in the case of an accident! this is a very serious problem that can cause serious injuries and/or death! it seems this is a persistent issue with Hyundai Sonatas since 2006.
The passenger airbag light came on at 37,000 mileage while the car was on but not moving. I took it to my local Hyundai dealer to check the airbag light and was told that airbag controller needed to be replaced. However, this is manufacturing defect that poses a threat of the consumer's safety as it can be deadly that the airbags will not deploy when needed! this can be fatal. Additionally, it seems this problem has been reported by other owners of 2011 Sonatas over the past 5 years. This needs to be a recall from the manufacturer! please help the consumers and their families.
Air bag light came on at 66700 miles. Took to local Hyundai dealer for maintenance and to check air bag light and was told passenger seat bottom and track needed replaced. Would cost approximately 850 dollars. This is a manufacture defect and I have kids and can't even trust driving this car due to safety issue with the airbags likely not deploying!!!!! this needs recalled!!!! I need to be able to trust my cars safety. Especially with my 3 kids. Recall this ASAP please. . . . . . . I have read this is a problem with most 2011 Hyundai Sonatas from people's complaints all over the internet. Obviously a defect and a huge safety issue!!!!!.

Tonight I was rear ended by a woman in an SUV, who's brakes did not work in her durango, she said. There were no skid marks indicating an attempted stop. Her impact on my vehicle was severe. Police officer guessed she was going 40 mph when she hit my car. My car was shoved forward into the car in front of mine, that car then hit the car in front of it. There were 3 cars, mine last in line, sitting at a red light. We were all stopped. Then there was a 4th car that hit mine from behind. The matter im reporting is that the airbags in my Hyundai sonate se 2011 car did not deploy when I then hit the car in front of me. The impact was great enough to cause that car to then hit another car and that caused a crack in the radiator of the car in front of mine. Also, after I hit that car in front of me, I then bounced back about 10 feet. More evidence of impact. Why no airbags? I did not see very much damage to the front of my car nor the back of the car that was directly in front of mine, while the back of my car was bad enough that I expect to be told it is not repairable. . Im reporting just in case you receive any other reports indicating there is something faulty concerning airbags in the Hyundai. I know airbags are not to deploy in rear end collision but since I then hit another car frontally, I would think the airbags would deploy. My husband was in the passenger, front seat and in order to brace himself, he put his hand up at the windshield. The glass was broken in an area the size of a cantaloupe from the impact against his hand. Im thinking the impact must have been moderate to severe. On the up side, my Sonata took that hit and sustained the damage to the outside and up into the air at the trunk rather than into the cab of the car. My father and son were in the backseat and were not killed, I think because the car is a good, safe vehicle in a crash.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when he drove over a patch of ice, causing the vehicle to crash into a utility pole. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was available. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the air bag failure. The contact was awaiting the results of an investigation by the insurance company. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
