36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2020

Was driving about 30 mph when the car began accelerating without me applying pressure to the gas. I was coming to a light to make a red turn and when I applied the brakes they would not slow down my vehicle so my speed increased. The steering wheel then locked and before I knew it a car had collided with me crossing in front of me. My car was totalled.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2019

I am a senior citizen who in 2015 purchased a pre-owned 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The vehicle has received 15 recalls in the time I've owned it most of which are life threatening safety issues , complete motor lock up , sudden loss of fuel and stalling. (brake stopper pad malfunction 3 times), seat belt anchor failure, complete safety air bag failure, exhaust system failure, high pressure fuel line leaks, my wife and I live on very limited social security monthly benefits and not in a position to afford a new car or repeatedly have to spend 100's of dollars every few months for repairs due to manufacture error / damage in construction of the vehicle. We have been nearly killed several times on the highway due to the fact that the motor either ceases to get fuel while traveling on the freeway or entering such on an onramp just as a semi truck and trailer approached at 70 mph and we had no fuel acceleration. On yet another near fatal situation the motor locked up completely in the middle of a busy four lane highway, which immediately resulted in a a fire under our hood. . . . . . . . . All caused by the deficiency of the engine which was the subject of a recall and we were told had been addressed. The fire destroyed most all other components in the engine compartment and had to be replaced, some at our expense. Shortly thereafter, the entire transmission had to be replaced and we had to pay $3500. 00 to repair. . . . . . Fyi, we live on 1700. 00 per month social security and this caused us a very extreme financial difficulty for months thereafter . There is more to our disastrous experience as a Hyundai Sonata product owner and what we're wishing for is that Hyundai might buy back this vehicle at fair price so that we may find a safe vehicle to drive without fear of being stranded, injured in an accident or killed. Other Sonata owners have experienced many of these same issues.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

I bought this car in 2013 for the Hyundai dealership in gurnee IL. Since then I have had nothing but recalls, and issues. All of the recalls for this year and affected my car as in the warning they way may happen actually happen to me. My engine seized up while I was driving with 2 kids in the car on a busy street and I was almost re ended as a result only to have the dealership tell me it wasn't the recall! then later they had to fix it after I work to corporate because it was the 132 campaign recall. The 3 dealership I have dealt with are all rude none want to actually fix your car or help you because its recall work not actually work that they make money off of. Now as of today my airbag light has come on after the "fixed" the newest safety recall, when I called the dealership they informed me they fixed the issue so I will be charged $139. 99 for them to even look at it. When will Hyundai be actually held responsible for all of these car issues they are all safety. So far the recalls have been for the engine, seat belts, brakes, air bags, body corrosion, and so on! I thought there was lemon law in place to remedy this, Hyundai product faulty vehicles with the model year 2011 and the consumer if the one lose and spending out of pocket. I had even called corporate before this to try and remedy the issue myself and was told they are sorry some will call in 3-5 days. At this point I am a mother driving around with children in a vehicle that may or may not pop the air bags whenever it feels like or they will not deploy if I do get in an accident. Something needs to be done with these cars they are not safe to be driving at any given time another recall can cause a major safety related crash or death at this point. I have had way to many close call with myself or my kids lives at risk due to Hyundai lack of care for their consumers.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

I had smelling a gas smell coming from the vents on Friday July 19th andi took it to firestone for a new battery and a oil change. I called the Hyundai dealership because firestone told me about a new recall for the fire pressure fuel regulator and they highly suggested I take it into them. I called Hyundai and they said for me to bring it in and I didn't need an appointment so I told them I would be there around 3-4pm yesterday. So I left work early, picked up my car from firestone and headed to the dealership which was about 10 miles away. I got on I-35 doing about 40mph or so because of traffic. All of a sudden the car next to me starts honking and waving saying my cars of fire. I try to apply the break but there was no pressure. My instrument column lit up like the 4th of July and then almost immediately smoke starts coming in from the vents, dashboard and floor. So my only option is to tuck and roll doing about 35-40mph on one of the busiest highways in austin. So I tuck and roll, people are stopped to help. I see my car continue to roll into the barrier and while car burst into flames.

40 Service Brakes problem

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

I was driving west on sunnyside road after leaving the parking lot of new seasons. I could see that the light was red and I pulled out onto sunnyside road. It was about 200 feet to the traffic that was stopped. I was doing about 20 mph when I realized that my car was not going to stop. I pushed hard onto the brakes but the car continued foreward under the pickup in front of me. Even with the airbags deployed I had no control. I was pushing the truck foreward. The other driver turned onto 157th Ave and I was still unable to stop the car. I also turned right onto 157th Ave. It was up hill I turned off the key and it came to a stop. My wife was pannicking and so was I. The car was filled with smoke and a lot of heat. My wife was screaming for someone to call 911. The driver of the truck rushed back to see if we were all ok. He called 911. My wife was sore as the airbags deployed and hit her in the chest. She had pain in her neck too. I was ok at the moment. I was worried about the other driver. He said that he was fine. He said that he had to honk his horn to get the car in front of him to move. They did and he was able to turn right. I am upset with ron tonkin Hyundai as I have had to wait almost a month to get an appointment for my oil change and the recalls taken care of. The first recall was for the air bags. The second recall was for the high pressure fuel pipe may have been damaged misaligned or improperly torqued when the engine was replaced allowing the fuel to leak. I am very upset with ron tonkin Hyundai as I have had to wait for almost a month to get an appointment. Jennifer lopez the service advisor. My appointment was set for June 26th 4 days after the accident. I went in to change the cars as I have a 2004 elantra. I have free oil changes on both cars. She told me that the recalls were not the reason and asked me if I was going to buy another Hyundai.

42 Service Brakes problem

I have gotten my car in March 2018 since then I had to change my brakes rogers and now I have a knocking noise in steering wheel and when press down on brakes tires double turn at time.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

I bought this car 3 years ago. Ever since the day I bought the vehicle, it makes loud clicking noises when you turn the steering wheel left or right while in drive and reverse. In the 3 years that I have owned this car, I have had to replace the tires 4 times, the brakes and rotors multiple times per year, tie rods, and cv joints and yet the car still clicks when you turn. I had the engine recall done in may of this year. They gave me the car back a month later. I had to take it back the very next day because it was leaking copious amounts of oil and making a clanking noise that was not present when I left my vehicle with them for a month. They "fixed" the oil leak and told me the noise was from my front brakes yet again. I had to return the car again a few days later because it was still leaking oil! so they "fixed" the leak a 2nd time and again said the noise was from my brakes. Less than a week after that the check engine light came back on. I immediately took it back and was told that it was just a "loose gas cap" which I never experienced prior to the engine being replaced. They cleared the light and sent me on my way. I had brand new brakes and rotors put on, again, and yet the clanking noise is still there. 5 days ago, the car began driving the way it was before the engine recall, same engine failure symptoms and my check engine light came back on a second time 3 days ago. I have not had to fill it up with gas in 8 days so there is no way that it is from a "loose gas cap. " my seat belt locks up and stays locked up if I lean forward. I should also mention that when I bought the vehicle I had to inform the manager that the front bumper was only attached to the car because someone drilled screws into it to keep it on. He had no idea!! I made them replace it before I would buy the vehicle. The paint is constantly chipping off of the "new bumper" they put on it.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2018

Our car was in the number 2 lane of a 5 lane freeway when it all of a sudden lost power and the gas pedal didn't work and then a very sudden, hard jolt in the car. I wanted to downshift, but the shift lever went to park with no effect. I turned on my turn signal to get to the shoulder on the right. I let the wheels drag along the asphalt curb of the shoulder until I applied the emergency brake and turned off the ignition, by then, the smoke was filling the cabin coming through all of the air vents and my wife and I got out as quickly as we could. It wasn't until then that I found that we had been followed by a tow truck with its emergency lights on and blocked the slow lane of traffic for us and who had his dispatcher call the fire department. The engine in this car had been replaced in March, 2018 under a recall for engine knocking noise. The tow truck driver tried his fire extinguisher, but it had no effect and he stated it would not work because it was a gasoline fire. No injuries were sustained. In order to install the new engine they have to bend the fuel lines out of the way and a fuel line could have been kinked, or was never installed properly. No one had done any work on the engine since it was installed by the Hyundai dealer. I have a fire report, but it is 8 pages. Highway patrol was present, but they do not make a report when only 1 car is involved.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

I have several complaints with my Sonata as it relates to brakes and tail lights. I have had to replace the brake stopper as it was making the car randomly slow down in when I was driving on the highway at speeds in excess of 70 mph . . When this was happening the traction control light also remained on in the dashboard. I also had brake calibers that were locked in place on my front brakes causing an issue having metal against metal. At this same time, my tail lights were remaining on even when the car was off. The stopper fixed this issue but I was also advised that I had to replace the whole rear light module because the wires had melted together this time it was the left side. In October I relaxed the whole right side rear lighting module because the wires had melted together in that light too! all of these repairs took place within a years timeframe. I have documentation but not with me right at this moment. All of these scenarios are pretty scary and put me and my son at risk. Not too mention my car is currently under an oil consumption test becaus we have no idea where the engine oil is going. The car has 140,000 miles.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2018

I went to the nearest Hyundai dealership to get some open recalls that I had done and I had like 5 or 6, many of which were very critical. I got a call next day asking me to come and pick up my car, which I was very skeptical about. They asked me to sign a paper indicating that everything is done. I asked if I can speak to someone to explain why this happened so quickly and if there's anything to worry about and they couldn't connect me with anyone neither did they ask for my information to contact me when that expert is available. Now about a month since taking the car to the dealership, I check my VIN online and to my surprise 4 of the most critical open recalls are still not closed or remedied. They involve problems with the engine, transmission, seatbelt, and brake pedal. There are all issues that could result in a fatal accident. I don't really know what to do because this is a matter of honesty. I should not have had to check for them to begin with. This Hyundai dealer is sunbury motors Hyundai.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

Recall campaign #14v434000 was repaired in 2014. The identical problem is occurring now in 2017. I have no idea it the vehicle is actually in park because the indicator lights do not light up, so I always have to use the emergency brake. When I am in drive, I now have to ensure the doors are locked manually because the vehicle does not realize I am in drive and keeps the doors unlocked. On 8/28/17 I requested a service appointment and was told I have to drive this unsafe vehicle until 09/19/17 before I can bring it in to see if they can fix the problem. Also, on 8/15/17 I had a one-time incident where my brakes slipped. Luckily, the brakes have not slipped again.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2017

I just purchased the car may 2017. I have had no issues with the car. However on Sunday August 20, 2017 my break lights would not go off. After about 2 hrs of trying to get them to go off. Nothing. I then did some research and verified that there was a recall on the issue that I was having. So I took it to the Hyundai dealership. I honestly dont believe that recalls should have "close" dates. Not every purchases that car the yr it was made. None the less even with a recall I am having to come out of pocket originally $101, until I explained my issues with them and then it went to $81. Im still a little annoyed that a recall can expire and leave the new owner with paying for the issue.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Brake issue,- when I press on brake pad the rear light seems to either get stuck making cars behind me think I am in the stop mode or will be stopping soon, it comes on and off time to time or either stays illuminated. I did youtube something about inserting a penny on the spot under break pedel. Electrical issue - me key gets stuck in the ignition when the car is in park postion , however the only way to dislodge the key is disconnecting my battery to shut down the car then I can turn the key to remove it from ignition, could it be my anti-theft system malfunctioning? steering wheel issue - hear a click in the steering column as if something had loose inside. Door handle/ panel issue- on handle and steering wheel is chipping off.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

When parking, the vehicle did not always go in park when shift lever was moved to "park". Shift lever position indicator on dashboard shows blank. When returning to vehicle, car would not start. Took vehicle to dealer, there was previous recall on Hyundai Sonata for shift lever problem but was told my vehicle has different problem. Dealer replaced "inhibitor switch" to try and correct problem. Looks like original recall did not correctly address the problem.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

Was getting onto the highway when my power steering gave out, was able to pull onto the side of the road away from traffic. My engine started knocking and I was unable to keep my car running. I had it towed to Hyundai in clarksville maryland, where they stated I had engine failure and that it needed to be replaced. They are now telling me they can't replace it although it is under a recall and under the cut off mileage. They are not communicating with me about the repair of my car and have yet made any attempts to get me into a new car. At this point I don't want my car repaired, I would rather them buy my car back or put me in a new car. The car has 5 recalls that I an aware about including the engine, power steering, front seat belt latches, my brakes pedal, and front coil springs.

I was driving down fm 2410 in harker heights, texas going about 50 miles an hour the speed limit. Came upon a curve and started to apply my brakes to slow down. As I was applying my brakes I heard a scrapping sound and the brake pedal seemed not to be functioning as required. The brakes locked up (as evidence looking at the skid marks some 15 to 20 feet long) the car seemed to be accelerating instead of slowing down. At the same time, I was trying to take my foot of the break and turn my steering wheel to regain total control of the car. The car turn slightly to the right as shown by the skid marks went off the road thru the ditch on the side of the road thru a field fence with barb wire on top and into a cedar tree as shown in the enclosed pictures.
