When driving in huntsville, al on city streets and the highway when I'm turning my steering wheel it makes a clicking noise and the column appears loose. The brakes are sticking and requires me to push down hard to stop my vehicle. I have replaced the front lights and back ends lights numerous times and they continue to go out frequently. 10 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

After having every recall imaginable including the replacement of my engine recently after it stalled while driving down one of the busiest highways in las vegas, I am stunned that the steering column and the electrical for the brakes hasn't been recalled yet. My steering column is clicking and making noises that have increased in the volume of the sound and it does this every single time I turn the wheel. I see others have already had this fail in their 2012 Sonatas entirely and previous years of my exact vehicle for the same issues have been recalled. I drive a three year old around frequently and I am afraid that soon my column will completely detach itself and cause an accident. I see other consumers have had to pay to have it fixed out of pocket at low mileage as well. Clearly we cannot all be misusing our vehicles. Previous Sonata models have also had the exact same safety recalls for these exact same problems that we are seeing now in this specific year and still they choose to deny it is their fault. My miles aren't even 70,000 yet. I have also replaced my left rear brake light 4 times now, how many more times will I have to do this before I am hit by someone or before someone else's brake lights fail and they end up in an accident that could be fatal? I have already been pulled over for having a tail light out that I had just replaced a week prior. This year make and model should just be recalled and scrapped entirely and owners given their money back. I had a seatbelt recall that was then later on recalled again!! I mean come on Hyundai!.

There is a recall on my car recalls are #174 and 160 and I am dealing with these issues unfortunately I have a problem because the airbags can't be fixed because there hasn't been a way to fix them. But I have noticed that there is a real hard shaking in and loud and aggressive tapping in the wheel column makes this sound when u go to a certain speed. For over 60 mph. There is a clicking sound when I turn my steering wheel. I was told by a mechanic that there is a small plastic piece associated with my steering column that is broken and needs to be replaced. 19 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

Have a clucking noise emanating from behind the counsel inline with steering column. I checked online and found a technical service bulletin for Hyundai and kia vehicles. I also located some videos on youtube on the replacement of the part that is the cause of most noises. The part in question is a flexible rubber coupling in the mdps (motor driven power steering) assembly. The technical service bulletin for Hyundai is TSB 14-st-002-1. I found a pdf with the information with pictures online and the date that is stated within it is may 2014. It does appear that they have a updated replacement coupling to replace the ones that are failing. When the coupling fails, it results in metal on metal contact. With that said, metal on metal contact over time may result in damage to the mdsp and have a higher dollar amount in repairs. I am hesitant in driving my 2012 Sonata very much as I am worried about safety. The safety of others along as myself.

20 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

The steering wheel makes a click when turned left and right started about a year after buying the car used and has gotten worse with time. When I took it to the dealer they told me it was the steering column motor mdps rubber coupler link had began to fail. This cause a dead zone in the steering wheel which gets worse with time. The link is a known failing part and cost $10 to replace the part but 300 for labor due to the steering column needing to be completely removed to replace the faulty rubber part.

21 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2018

The steering column vibrates and makes noise when going over bumps and when going over 65 mph on the freeway the wheel vibrates and makes noise and feels loose. This problem has bern reported and there is a campign for 2010 models, but they are not willing to fix the problem because my car is a 2012 model.

22 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Steering column motor mdps rubber flex coupler repair. Hyundai needs to have a recall on this - steering is off and misguided! dangerous to manuveur car on the road, traffic and on the freeway. Can't judge/guess the steering play if unforeseen happens and driver has to act quick to get car to safety. This is a common problem with the Sonata's and needs to be recalled because the steering column has to be taken apart to fit it.

23 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

When car turns loud clicking sound comes from steering wheel. When going over bumps steering column makes loud noise.

24 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

Above approximately 60 mph steering column develops a shudder which builds and wanes - steering becomes more challenging as a result. The greater the speed, the more pronounced is this condition. This is a suboptimal condition that is not typical for a functional vehicle, and is unrelated to wheel quality, rotation or balance. It is a temblor-like shudder which clearly will interfere with safety if it continues or progresses. Perhaps this is related to NHTSA id number: 10110926, but this vehicle is now at 108k miles, so that doesn't cover it, does it. Further, I have no record of notification of receiving manufacturer communication number: 5np-f8m5g-03. I will be contacting the dealership contending inadequate notice, and needing this to be repaired to assure safety.

25 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2017

Steering column makes very loud clunking sound when driving over uneven roads or when traveling in excess of 20 mph. It literally feels like the steering wheel is about to come off in the driver's hands and the sound is unbearable. There is also a fair amount of "play" in the steering, with a loud "clunk!" sound at either end of the "play" zone. Clunking sound while driving in excess of 20 mph lessens when wheel is engaged in a turn.

26 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2017

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the steering wheel and column shakes as while as when driving over a bump rattling noise was heard. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealership for diagnoses or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,400. Aa.

27 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

With the car just running I can move my steering wheel and makes a clanking noise. It also makes really loud noises when hit bumps or go over railroad crossings. It doesn't feel safe and is very scary when seeing 2011 had recall for same thing and many 2012 have had same complaints. This is my only transportation and I have children. I had it checked out and was told same problem that I have read about with steering column and steering shaft. Please advise best way to get this taken care of.

28 Steering Column problem

29 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2017

There is an issue with the steering column. When driving, it makes loud noises and then at higher speeds it starts shaking. This is clearly a safety concern.

30 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

I am the owner of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2. 0t. We've had the vehicle for almost five years, and about six months ago, we starting noticing a "clicking" sound in the steering wheel column. What makes it even more alarming is that the loud clicking sound happens while driving and while hitting any bump on the road. This is definitely very alarming, especially after investigating and finding out that there are a ton of complaints for the same in this 2012 vehicle, as well as earlier models. The conclusion appears to be the steering coupling (a rubber), where there was already a recall for older models but not this 2012 Hyundai Sonata. This is very concerning as my entire family is at risk of a car accident, including two small children. Please investigate and/or have a recall for what should have been fixed already on newer models. This is very urgent.

31 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2017

The steering wheel column on my vehicle constantly clicks. This is a extended warranty campaign with Hyundai however they refuse to fix it. I took the vehicle to a dealership in richmond, va in January 2017 and they told me what the problem was and gave me a quote to fix it of $800. This was before the vehicle hit 100,000 miles and the warranty campaign was released. When I took it back in October because I couldn't stand it anymore, Hyundai refused to fix it as it was at 106,000 miles. They never documented the issue in January. Now the vehicle has failed its inspection, even though Hyundai told me it was not a safety issue.

32 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

Steering column coupler makes rattling noise.

33 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2017

The steering wheel column makes a loud clicking noise when you turn it to the wheel left and to the right. Also when going over bumps the steering column makes the same loud noise. This is very disconcerting due to the potential dangerous situation . This should definitely be a recall due to the high possibility of something catastrophic happening while driving the car. This should be a recall due to the number of people having this same problem!!.

34 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2016

The coupling has worn down resulting in a horrible clunking sound and feel when driving. I am scared my steering column will fall apart every time I go over a bump. . . . That or my wheels will fall off. $400 bucks to fix. I've read it's happening to yhsibmake and model and tear all over the place. . . Why did Hyundai use plastic couplings? Hyundai. . . You need to recall this.

35 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

The steering column has become very loosened. When driving at a high rate of speed, the steering column will pop and jerk in the opposite direction, and sometimes cause my car to steer in the opposite direction. I have learned that the manufacturing could have been either improperly assembled or insufficiently tightened on certain vehicles. This manufacturing defect could suddenly cause me to lose the ability to steer my vehicle, possibly resulting in an automobile accident with a potential for property damage, injury and death. Hyundai (homer skelton, olive branch, ms) is refusing to repair the steering column. I have been told that I will have to pay $305. 00. I just purchased this vehicle from their dealership in Feb. 2016. The driver¿s side brake light housing unit has a defect, which caused it to melt and the blow the bulb. The bulb is hard to remove because the plastic assembly has melted to the bulb. I have been told by a certified mechanic that this is very dangerous and can even cause a fire. I have been told by Hyundai (homer skelton, olive branch, ms), that they will have to replace the entire light fixture, just to replace this blown bulb. The cost will be $253. 00. If Hyundai has had some of the same known problems with the 2011 Sonata, someone should hold them accountable to recall the 2012 Sonata and take a look at the same issues, before these defects cause someone and/or their family their lives.
