general problems of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata - part 2

Shortly after the engine was replaced from a recall, the steering started clicking and rattling. Worse on rougher terrain and the interstate, but basically makes the noise with any movement of the steering wheel. It seems like a very common problem, I am not sure why Hyundai is not fixing this issue. It is pretty bad that this car has had 8 to 10 recalls.

Started having electrical issues, 1: when you use the button to roll up front passenger window or put the car in reverse the electric trunk opener will pop the trunk open. 2: trouble with low voltage to the waste gate accurater sensor that controls the turbocharger unit. 3: number 2 did not start until two other codes showed up on my check engine light. Those two codes are p0011 & p0014. This electrical issue seems to be a major problem with this car. Me and my wife are on disability and can not afford the cost of a dealership to continue to try to fix it when they don't even seem to know what the problem is.

My 2012 Hyundai Sonata has been aligned twice by firestone and still has a pull in the wheel which causes the vehicle to pull and slowly drift off the road the car has no steady align after being aligned and I have a year warranty on the alignment it's so irritating driving a nice car with little things like this which ruins the luxury of enjoying my road car .

Loud clicking noise when driving speed of 50 mph or more on the interstate, suddenly loss of power steering control and hard to turn the wheel. Took the car to my mechanic. He ran a diagnostic and confirmed that the steering colum coupling was completely destroyed and the power steering assist motor need replacing. Researched found that this was investigated February 2017 TSB #5np-g5z6w-03 , however I did not receive a recall notice.

Steering coupler has disintegrated allowing dangerous free play in steering according to auto tech. Occurs while stationary if wheel is moved side to side, as well as in motion. This has been occurring for approx 6mo but has gotten worse so it was just taken to a private garage for diagnosis. I reviewed for recalls but did not find any for this issue with this VIN. I believe manufacture should cover repairs due to nature of problem.

The driver experienced a stalled engine while driving. The brakes failed to respond and the steering wheel locked up. The car coasted, despite repeated braking attempts, and jumped a curb and stopped when it ran over onto a person's lawn. The driver attempted to steer and stop multiple times. As a consequence, the two driver side tires blew out. The car will be towed to a dealer. A police report was issued.

While turning the steering wheel of my 2012 Hyundai Sonata, in motion or stationary, left or right, there is a clicking noise. Recommended service has been to remove and replace the steering shaft which is extremely costly. I am concerned about my safety and the safety of others while driving. As of date, there has not been a recall campaign, although there have been over 200 complaints registered with the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA). Will Hyundai issue a recall to fix this problem?.

When turning steering wheel there's a clunking noise. It happens when stationary, or when driving and turning. Had a worn steering coupler replaced 1-10-19. Having same noise. Now they say it's the steering shaft and it's going to cost $420. There should be a recall on this.

Steering has a clunking/clicking sound when turning left or right. It has gotten worse from when I noticed it. At first I could hear a faint rattling sound when going over bumps in the road (more noticeable in colder time of the year). Now for the past 2-3 years it’s very noticeable and makes clunking like noise every time turning even when parked. When I first heard the faint noise my mechanic couldn’t hear it. He said I have to hear it to know for sure but said it’s possibly the steering column and at that time he priced it at $500 I’m sure it’s more now with this economy. I didn’t get it fixed bc he wasn’t sure and I didn’t want to pay to get it fixed if that wasn’t the problem. I had no idea I could file this complaint otherwise I would have done it sooner! this problem started January 2019. Also the gas gage will blink and say I have no gas even tho I filled up. The sensor to gaging the gas I believe is faulty. Hard to show a mechanic because it does it randomly starting the car, while driving, after filling up to name a few. Then the lines will fill in while driving, stopped at a traffic light/stop sign, starting the car. It will stay good for a while and act up again. This has been doing it so long I’d say it started a few years after owning so around 2015 about 45,000 miles. I’m lucky that I have jobs 5-10mins from my home I haven’t put on miles that most do. Again I would have put in a complaint if I knew of this site. Anyone driving this car could cause an accident if it runs out of gas in the middle of driving.

When starting the car, eps came up. Tried to pull out of driveway, but steering wheel was locked.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving and when making a left or right turn, the steering wheel made an abnormal clunking noise. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called bob king Hyundai at (336) 724-2861 (located at 1601 silas creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127) and was advised to schedule a diagnostic appointment. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer provided case number: 11679903. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

Steering wheel is making a clicking noise. Can be heard when you turn the car on and have it in park and turn the wheel left or right. Can be heard both ways. I have been reading a few complaints of the same. Only have 42,000 miles on my car. Will this be a recall?.

My steering wheel sticks in one position while driving. I have asked the dealer I take my car to about it and at first they said there was no issue. I mentioned it again and the lead service tech explained that they were aware of the issue and it is very expensive. Thats all fine except if you are aware of the issue then I am by no means the first person to complain about this problem. I am worried that one day it will finally lock up completely. I notice the issue on the highway the most as there are not as many turns but you can also notice it a lot when on straight back roads/county roads. It has been since I have owned the vehicle that I have noticed this issue, so around 15,000 or so miles now.

While stationary, turning the steering wheel makes a clunking sound and has to much play in the steering. While in motion it feels as if the car is out of alignment, again way too much play in the steering. This is cause of concern. Been noticing for a few months.

My steering wheel is constantly making a clicking sound and vibrating violently. I took the vehicle to Hyundai today and even though this is a warranty issue, they still wanted me to pay them to identify the cause of the issue.

Esc traction light stays on while driving and can't be turned-off by the esc button. Car was repaired by lia-Hyundai for a bad alternator when they returned it back after the repair, the esc light has been on ever since. Lia-Hyundai claimed no fault while being told about the issue before car was driven from their premises. Salesperson said to drive car 2 days and see if light goes out as of yet light still on.

Steering wheel starts to shake and rattle after renting a certain speed limit. Making it extremely difficult to keep the car on the road safely Hyundai need to stop being so damn cheap and put a recall out on this shit because I know my car is not the only one doing this, you should look it up online and you will be surprised at all of the complaints that are out there about this steering wheel problem!!.

Hyundai needs to recall this problem before someone get seriously hurt or killed for the steering to go out. If something should happen to occur I will certainly be calling my lawyer. Hyundai fix your problems before we go elsewhere.

Water leaking inside cabin on passenger side. Mold accumulating behind dashboard. Also loud noise of spraying water,which is distracting during driving especially during right or left turning. Passenger experienced a near slip and fall after exiting the vehicle on a slick surface, not realizing her shoes were wet from the drenched carpet on that side of the cabin. There is also a noticeable stench in the cabin that has made me nauseously sick. I was distracted by the sound of spraying water to the point of trying to locate it while driving. This happens when driving in the city or highways. This happens only while driving.

3/7/18 left vehicle for testing and repair at cardinale automotive group in corona, CA. 3/8/18 picked up car in good working condition for $800. Arrived home to learn of recall for my exact repair. It appears I am over mileage for recall, however, I request to be included when recall is extended. This was/is your problem!.

Steering catches or sticks in center position while in motions. Requires extra effort to move past the sticking point which results in a jerk in the steering which is quite dangerous at highway speeds. Rocking the steering wheel back and forth produces a very cloud click sound as well.

Recently my steering wheel has been making a clicking noise while both driving and idle, when it is turned left or right. Once I get to a speed of about 60 mph, the steering wheel begins to vibrate vigorously and is extremely loud. At times, my driving feels unstable as if my car is going to lose control.

All of a sudden I have excessive play in the steering wheel with a clunking sound at the end of travel in both directions . Feels like the steering wheel is gonna fall off in my lap . Help!.

Noticed knocking sound coming from behind the steering wheel when turning the wheel left/right from center position. The power steering seems to be working fine and able to turn the vehicle while driving. Several forums and online posted videos describe the flexible rubber coupling in the mdps (motor driven power steering) assembly getting worn out which causes the gear tooth to have a metal-on-metal contact. . The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v190000 (steering), 10v457000 (steering), and 10v426000 (steering) for the 2011 models. In addition, the manufacturer issued three tsbs on the steering for the 2012 models, but there was no manufacturer recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

I own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata when turning the wheel left or right there is a knocking sound I brought my car to be looked at by a mechanic who said this week alone he had 4 Sonata's with the same problem he said it should be a recall as was done with the 2011 Sonata's that had the same problem this is a safety issue as previous claims on the internet have stated loosing their steering all together the car only has 57,000 on it.

After appx 65k miles, the steering wheel started clicking while stationary or moving. After researching this problem, I found several people described the issue as the steering knuckle. I took my car to the repair shop to resolve the issue. My issue was not only the knuckle, but the steering gearbox. There were teeth broken on the gears. This is a very costly repair. $2000-$4000. These issues should not happen unless there were weak or defective parts installed during the build process. This is an extremely dangerous issue.
