I just got this car about 2 months ago and now I am being told I need a new engine. I just looked up 2015 Hyundai Sonatas and see that this model does have repeat issues of engine failure so I do not understand why this VIN number is not under the recall list since I am having the same issue.
While driving on the highway, my engine abruptly died with all subsequent warning lights coming on. I had no power, beyond battery power, and was stuck on the side of the highway for 2. 5 hours during rush hour. Engine would not restart or turnover representing a likely catastrophic engine failure. My local Hyundai dealer did not seem surprised by this revelation and they still wont tell me what's wrong even though the car has been un their possession for 72 hours.
Engine had a critical engine failure, per dashboard?,while driving on highway, no engine warning ⚠️ lights before failure! car engine switched to low gear and immediately only drove about 10mph. I was able to move to slow lane then off to the shoulder. . . My car was not hit by any other car. . . But it did come close. Drove perfectly fine up to engine failure/seizure. This is an extremely unsafe condition for a car engine to be in suddenly. Again no oil or engine lights on before engine failure. Hyundai case has been created # 18049339 and dealer notified. Both appears to me not to understand the seriousness of this safety hazard. . . Engine has been replaced by a certified mechanic after Hyundai refused to help with this matter. I will include response and invoice for engine.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While the contact's daughter was driving at a very low speed, the engine completely failed. Prior to the failure, the engine seized on several occasions. After each failure, the vehicle would restart and resume normal operation. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the engine failures. The vehicle was towed to napleton Hyundai of carmel (4200 e 96th st, indianapolis, in 46240, (844) 729-4217) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was unknown.
Had an accident 6/29/19 was hit driver's side front tire area. Insurance recommended closest repair shop fix (dick smith) and they returned it. Same week car was taken back to repair shop for concerns, clicking, vibrating, etc. Was told by dick smith repair shop needs a boot but car is "driveable". Two days later car dies while driving. . Ds (jeff, service mgr) says died 4 no oil causing engine to "seize up" but no light was on. . And prior to Hyundai running diagnostics also. Ds towed to Hyundai. Told by peacock Hyundai (chris) they had several reports of engine failure within 2 weeks of my car being towed and they were waiting on approval for new engine but then a different person (ted) says engine "seized" for no oil but car had oil change within last 6k miles and is full synthetic. Please help as I have a newborn and need a vehicle.
Received a Sonata's engine control unit letter, stating a product improvement campaign has been issued on my car, on excessive connecting rod bearing wear in the engine. I have a severe knocking in my engine, when moving, especially when excelling up a hill, and it stated this can cause severe engine damage including engine failure. Told service man and he stated if it is this it could take one-three weeks for repair. Why isn't this a recall. States for this VIN# -8 recalls, but doesn't list them?? how do I find this out?.
On highway 70mp Sonata loses all power towed to Hyundai dealership. 3 days letter knock was to blame an wiring replaced. 15 minutes after picking up Sonata an reaching speeds of 70 again on highway Sonata loses all power again almost causing pileup in rush hour traffic gain Sonata is towed back to dealership. Dealership confirms only parking lot test was done not highway after replacement even knowing the wide spread engine failures / issues Sonata is having an catching fire. This is serious an life threating you lose all control no power no warning !!!! at high speeds. 1/8 Sonata currently at dealership.
I sought service for loud lifter noise at 50,000 miles, but was told the noise was from an after market (jiffy lube (fram filter)). The service dept. Frank Hyundai, chula vista, CA drained my new oil, and did a complete new oil and filter change. The lifter noise continued. At approx. 122,000 the engine began to knock while on the freeway - mason auto, imperial beach, CA did a complete engine diagnostic and determined the noise as engine knock. From lifter noise to engine knock. I cannot drive the car for fear of complete engine failure! mason auto of imperial beach, CA informed me that this was the fourth Hyundai they had diagnosed with engine knock recently.
I drove 200 miles from my home to charlevoix, michigan. While driving I noticed that the engine was making a 'whooshing sound' every time I accelerated. This happened at highway speeds and at normal city driving speeds. Rather than drive the car home, I took it to the closest dealership some 60 miles away and reported the problem. Car has a 2. 0turbo engine. The inlet duct that brings air into the turbo severed at the point of attachment to the turbo. The technician at the dealer said that he could not tell if the duct melted or was cut. Other than oil changes, the car has never required engine service. He deemed the car unsafe to drive off the lot. , he said in his write up that any object could find its way into the turbo because the duct is unattached. This would lead to total engine failure, and hazardous driving condition. The car has been at the dealership since Friday, october13,2017. I received notification from the dealer today that the replacement part is on national back order and that they have been told by Hyundai that there is no promised delivery date since no parts are in stock I suspect that there may be other customers who reported the same problem which would be causing the stock-out situation.
