1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/29/2020

The car suddenly loses the ability to accelerate making it very stressful to drive as you are not certain when this will happen. At first it is intermittent but eventually it simply stays that way once the issue begins while you are driving, hence the car will have an almost impossible time retaining speed on the highway or accelerating at a light or as you merge onto highways. Changing the driver mode to sport appears to have a positive effect as it causes much more aggressive gear shifting but it then stays in the same gear for too long reaching rps that feel unsafe for the engine itself. This is now the third tie this happens and it is also the more severe manifestation of the problem,. The first time the dealer asserted they were not able to diagnose it but returned the car without the problem. The second time it happened they apologized and said that it was an issue with the engines computer algorithm, that apparently the computer learns from the way in which one drives and so is adaptive but that sometimes it can become corrupted. This third time the dealer told me it would take only a couple of hours to fix but now it has been three days and they have not called me back. They did leave a message that apparently they are ordering parts and will be fixing it. My issue now is that its a third time and it is clear that something in the car is defective and now we are going to be almost completely paranoid of it happening again at a critically dangerous intersection or merge area. We have been lucky so far but it is a family car and I do not feel safe in the car anymore given the repeating nature of this problem and the lack of information out there form the manufacturer as to what exactly is going on.

5 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

Since leasing the vechicle on August 1 I constantly complained about the gas mileage which hyandai indicated would be resolved on the following oil change. The oil change bearly effected the mileage efficiency which leads to the second issue when the gas guage shows below a quarter on the tank the cruise control does not work and is also affected in high mountain areas. When I explained these issues to hyandai they said they never heard of it and would sent to the company for further review in the meantime I have a car with the gas guage that does not show exact amounts from fill up to empty makes this car a safety risk that is totally unacceptable not to mention the car is running horrible which suggest other safety features are not working accurately. The dealers look over only suggested other underlying issues exist with this vehicle and is a clear safety hazard.

7 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

I was driving down the interstate going around 60-65mph. I heard a loud boom that sounded like a gunshot, as soon as I had a safe moment to pull over I then realized it was my sunroof that has busted. I then was able to step out of my car and realized my sunroof had busted from the inside out. I am very thankful that I was able to stay calm, cool, and collective. I couldn't imagine if the pull of my sunroof from inside the call had been opened. It would have defiantly caused a hazard not only to myself but to other passengers and drivers on the highway.

9 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

I was having problems with my steering shaking and rattling, was waiting for my appointment at the dealership to resolve the problem as I noticed was on a recall NHTSA #10v457000 & 10v426000, dealer stated they were completed 05/ 2010. That I would have to pay $500 to fix the problem again. I was in process of transfering back to ft worth. Due to limeted budget could not fix the problem . . Several days later I was involved in an incident where a person had contacted my vehicle from the front. I managed to cause this possibly fatal front end collision to be a glancing blow. But not before having problems operating the vehicle's steering capability. The shaking and rattling in the steering wheel which they (dealership) said was corrected; come also with play in the steering it self the steering wheel is turned . . . Left or right. Due to this delay the seconds caused contact to still be made where as if was corrected with a adequate replacement part could possibly been avoided. Now am told I have to pay for this to be fixed even though is a prior recal; that is still defective. Mind you the part is $500. So is this a matter of once a recall always a recall. At $500 a pop. Waranty is 6 yrs / 60,000?? (not totally sure on that?) so is my responsbility after that? may as well sell. Is it the automotive s industry to have consumers lease instead of buy. . . And parts industry and manufacturing industry to capitalize off of defective parts. . . By reselling these defectice parts over and over???????????.

10 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

On Monday September 22nd around 540pm on the 10 fwy going eastbound right before towne Ave. As the traffic on the freeway began to slow I came to a complete stop. About 5 seconds after stopping I noticed that the car began to roll forward. I applied more pressure to the brake pedal however the car continued to slowly roll. I then stepped on the emergency break and the car did not stop. The car slowly rolled about 8 feet before it stopped on the back of a big rig trailer bumper. I called 911 and explained that I did not want to move the car as I was not sure it would stop. The chp advised that they would send out a tow truck to get me off the freeway. I was removed from the freeway and I had aaa tow my car to the nearest Hyundai dealer in glendora CA. They called me the next day and said they ran a full test on the car and could not find anything. However they did fix the recall on my car for the rollaway risk and shift cable to the transmission. I asked them do you think this had anything to do with it. The dealer indicated no that maybe I was driving fast and the abs took over. I told him that I had more than 8 feet between the big rig and myself when I came to a full stop and that I was not going more than 15-20 miles since traffic was slow. The dealer service agent said nothing showed up on the scanned test and they drove it and is fine.

I guess I wasn't the only one with melting dashboard and both side mirror housing units. Today 9-16-14, dealer is replacing my dash n housing for the second time!!! I was so fed up with dealer and got corporate involved, so they called today 9-16-14 and told me just enjoy your melting car. They said they cant do anything about it. I am sure its going melt again and hoping so. I will have to get a lemon lawyer and settle it. It is not defective parts. Its the car itself!!!! this Hyundai will be my first and will be the last.

14 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/18/2014

On Mar 18, 2014, at approximately 11:25pm my wife and I heard a very loud noise, ie; explosion, that we knew came from the top of our car. We pulled over and noticed that our sunroof had exploded; over half the glass was gone and strewn all over the roof and trunk area of our car. We had just pulled away from a stop light after it turned green and were accelerating up to speed. We were traveling somewhere between 30 - 40mph when the sunroof blew for no apparent reason. We took the car to the Hyundai dealership for repair the next day. The dealership couldn't determine what caused the sunroof to rupture like it did. The dealership thought we were hit by a rock, but both the wife and I refuted that idea. We stand by our claim that it blew for no apparent reason. Even if a rock did hit us, the sunroof glass should not have exploded/ruptured like it did. We feel there's a very serious defect with the glass and that this incident needs to be addressed more closely. I have pictures if you would like them.

20 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/04/2011

After purchasing this vehicle brand new, I continually complained to Hyundai dealerships that the drivers floormat was not remaining secure and would slide up onto the accelerator. Most dealerships simply reattached the mat to the tether attached to the carpet. I continually complained that this was not sufficient because upon entering the vehicle the mat slid off the tether and would begin its journey forward. While driving, at various times, moving ones foot from the brake to the accelerator would then create problems with sudden acceleration. Finally, a dealer in scranton PA. , dickson city Hyundai decided to order new floor tethers. After months - I returned to have an oil change and they advised the tethers were not there . . Again, after an extended period of over three weeks of my car left at the dealership as it was a hazard to drive, they replaced the carpet and tethers that attach to it. Three weeks this car sat at the dealership for tethers. During this period, I investigated this make, model and year vehicle on the internet. Low and behold, this is a common complaint. That the front driver floor mat does not stay attached to the tethers and slides up onto the accelerator causing sudden acceleration. Most members writing the complaint said Hyundai did not want to make the repair.

21 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

2011 Sonata se. Will not start. Warning light indicates key not present or press brake to start. When pressing brake, pedal is "stiff". Tried emergency key reset procedure per owner's manual. No luck. Wait 30 minutes, heard relay in dash click, and car returned to normal operation. 3rd time occurred. Noticed I had pulled into parking space by truning hard right prior to shut off. Also, my wife had opened the passenger door and climbed in prior to the driver's door being opened (possible alarm system problem?) no warning. Dealer is stumped. Many others have same exact issue. Suspect either computer or sensor problem. Other possible cause, issue with the alarm system when teh passenger door is opened while car is locked. Car waits until after a time reset to initialize the relay again. . . . Milage 13600.
