Gas gauge worked, only, intermittently. Would indicate empy after a fillup. At about 3/4 of a tank, would start showing accurate reading. Now seems not to work at all. This has been going on for 2 years. Now, it is stuck on 1/2 full no matter how much or little fuel is in the tank. My safety concern is running out of fuel on the highway and being rear ended by another vehicle. Online, I have found. Many others complaining about this issue.

On March 1, 2021, I noticed an odd smell while idling in line. Turned car off until it was my turn. The smell was gone once I turned it back on, so thought it was another car and drove to work. That evening, smell started again after driving a few miles to parent's house. Parked the car at parent's and arranged to drive it to mechanic the next morning after having my father confirm there was water in the radiator and the oil wasn't too low. Engine temp gauge was normal. Check engine light was on, but had been for the length of time I had car. I had it checked several times- issue would be supposedly found, but it would always come back on. I was led to believe it was a faulty sensor issue. There was nothing obviously wrong when we looked under the hood and had no reason to think it would not be safe to drive the short distance to the mechanic. Next morning, March 2, 2021, I intended to drive the car to the shop so they could address the issue causing the smell, and father followed behind. Car seemed fine at first, but after a couple of miles driving on surface streets, the smell came back. Pulled over and turned off car, thinking that I would need to have the car towed the remainder of the way. I saw something come from under hood. My father, who had been following behind, asked me to pop the hood. As I climbed back in the car to pop the hood, I realized there was smoke inside the car. I got out, told my dad that there might be a fire as there was smoke inside the car. As we had that discussion, smoke started pouring from under the hood, and we backed away from the vehicle and called 911. Within seconds, there were visible flames and the whole front of the vehicle was engulfed in flame. Today, March 10, 2021, I was made aware that 2011 Hyundai Sonatas were included in a list of vehicles known to catch fire, so I am filing this notification.
The vehicle's fuel gauge (type c) does not accurately adjust for changes in the amount of gas in a timely manner. It normally takes 2-3 days for the gauge to move to full tank even though it is full. Same problem from 1/4 to 1/2 tank, etc. For example, I noticed the panel said I had 11 miles to empty on Friday. The gas gauge showed otherwise. I wasn't near my usual fill station, so I put 5 gallons of gas in the car. It is now Wednesday (5 days later). The gas gauge moved slightly yesterday to almost 1/4 tank, but the fuel tank warning went from 11 to 0 miles left to empty (see attachment). I drove on the highway each day and in the city. I purchased this car July 2020 with a full tank. This problem became evident in Aug 2020. After refilling the tank, the reader showed 111 miles to empty. I informed Hyundai agent of the issue, who had no idea why this was happening. The guage and fuel tank reader finally adjusted after about 3 days. I had 449 miles on the car at that time. I now have over 4,000 with same problem. Apparently, something is faulty, but I don't know what. Auto dealer is baffled. This issue could result in a real fuel shortage while traveling with no gas station nearby.

After putting gas in my car the gas gauge is everywhere. I can stop and restart my car after filling it and it will say I'm empty. Whether I'm actually driving at the moment or stationary, the gauge will constantly move up and down. I have to keep an eye on my mileage to know how much I really have. It has been happening for over a year now. I've seen other stories online of many others having the same issue.
I'm not sure if this is an engine problem. When I would take off in my car, I accelerate and after I started going, I could push the pedal all the way to the floor and it had no power, it would almost completely stall in the road. I let off gas and push again and it would regain power and drive. No check engine light came on, no low oil, no service lights at all. All of the gauges in the dash red great and everything was normal. I started my car one day and it started making this chirping noise, almost like a bird chirping when I accelerate, but once I got up in speed the chirping stopped. I then started my car and there was a clicking, ticking type noise that got worse after 2 days. I took the car to a shop and was told it needed a new engine. Again, all gauges are completely normal, no check engine light at all to warn me there might be a problem with my car and now it cant be driven. I purchased this vehicle new. Why doesnt the check engine light or gauges work to warn of possible issues, this has to he a defect and what is the chirping, stalling, loss of power? if my engine was going bad, why did the system fail to alert me?.

Brand new car purchased and few issues. 1. Gas gauge only goes up to 7/8 even with full tank fill up. 2. Gas mileage does not seem to indicate correct mileage. With full tank gas, the indicator shows 450+ miles, but actual mileage is 300~350 miles. 3. Error occurs when playing songs from iphone 6 using usb cable.

Fuel gauge is not working properly. When gas is filled, it display the full tank gauge. But after ~ 100 mile drive, the fuel gauge drops to empty tank with alarm sign. At first it happened very rarely, but now (69000 mile), every time the fuel gauge drops to empty tank once it is drive >100 mile after full tank.
