4 Battery Dead problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Vehicle stalls when accelerator after coming to a stop. Try giving gas it want move or it will coast very slow. After 30-60 seconds it will pickup speed. Sometimes it will not allow to reverse or go up inclines. I've shaken to two different dealerships and one mechanic shop. Was told that if car is not stalling at the time problem can't be diagnosed. I've been on major highways and this has happened which is very scary. When it started happening it would be in a rare occasion now after at least one year it is much more often. Now I'm noticing after driving it for two hours continuous the battery dies down and the ac goes out. I'll turn it off which charges the battery but does not help the stall issue. It started at around 80,000 miles I am at 120,000 now.

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

Purchased used 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid on 1/18/2019. On 5/22/19 had oil changed & requested diagnostic due to accelerator issues and hitting high speed bump. Same issue occurred along with car not starting on 5/28 and brought car to dealer on 5/29/19. Dealer could not repeat issue but replaced batteries in both key fobs. Drove car to CT (from nc) on 7/12/19. Car was fine except the a/c was not cooling well. Turned car off & let sit for 10 mins. It was better. On 7/18/19 my 17 yo was in motion on busy interstate 91 south in CT. Car decelerated & alarms rang out. A warning advised "hybrid battery failure" & "safely pull over". She was able to drive to the side. Highway safety patrol came & advised her to start car again. Lights came on but engine would not. Had car towed to lia Hyundai in enfield, CT. Called 7/19, left message rtc. I asked for manager who advised the same & said he would have to run a diagnostic to see what was wrong. I called Hyundai motor America & got a ticket number. Was told that if it was the battery they "may be willing to pay and may be willing to tow car back to nc once completed" again if approved. Need tech to submit a work order req and special tow request if prior authorization was approved. On 7/22 a diagnostic was ran & sent to hma showing hybrid battery needs to be replaced. I called hma & was given a national team ticket. Service manager rich called on 7/29 advising Hyundai is requiring more tests & wants pictures. He called back to advise that Hyundai is now telling him to just replace the safety plug & relay switch. Advised Hyundai would pay 60% and we would need to pay 40%. Cost was $1000 but part needed to be ordered. Can't guarantee that it will work. I spoke to nicolette on 7/29. Was told they would only pay the 60% as a good will gesture. Car battery goes dead, unable to start car, could happen at any time. This has happened 3 times. The dealer has no idea why. Even Hyundai corp does not have any answers. The car has been back to the dealer for days at a time with no resolution. I feel this is a safety concern because the car can leave you stranded, it is so unreliable. This is a 2014 Sonata. I see many problems on the internet for this problem with Hyundai cars. It appears to be associated with cars with "push to start".

14 Battery Dead problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

I have had issues galore with my car since the day I drove it off the lot. First issue and still is just gave up on bringing it back was the steering that drifted. Then I had a sound coming from the rear of the car that made a loud noise. I also have a sound coming from the sun roof. After that I had a oil leak in it's first year. My radio went out, my driver window stop working. My turbo quit on me. Battery died. I was stranded by the car 3 times. It would turn over fast but not crank. I called road side on one of those. My air bag lights come on while driving down the road. It rattles like cheap parts. I have called Hyundai with no response as of yet. The dealership says they can't do anything. I pay a car not for a car I don't trust to drive.

15 Battery Dead problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/29/2006

Purchased 2003 Hyundai Sonata brand new. Defective radio replaced 1 month after purchase. Battery dead after 2 years and 8,500 miles. No reason. Battery replaced by myself. Battery dead again in August of 2006. Replaced again. Battery dead again on December 30th 2006. Had to have car towed to dealership. Dealership stated the battery was bad. Replaced again at my expense. I said the car should not be draining 3 batteries with less than 10,00 miles. Dealership said it was because of a defective radio!?! and that I needed to replace the radio at my expense because the radio ran out of warranty 5 months prior! I believed that there was something electrical wrong with the car and I do not think I can trust the vehicle now.

16 Battery Dead problem of the 1998 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

Same as odi id number: 1003666 . Front doors do not unlock from inside or outside and must crawl through back seat to get in to the front seat. Passenger side door stuck first and passenger had to get out the window. Two weeks later drivers side stuck. Two weeks later parking lights were left on at work and doors were locked. . . Battery died . . . Door locks are electric. . . Front door key only unlocks back doors if you have a good battery! couldn't get in car to open hood to jump battery. . . Had to leave car at work for days trying to get hood open with stiff wire and finally was successful when thick enough wire was used. Don't dare to lock car up again. . . I still find it locked up many times a week. Must be self-locking. Dealer told me this is a safety hazard and will not pass inspection. Dealer told me parts are about $100 for each door and $200 labor for each door to cut through the interior panel to get access to open them so they can work on them. That's a $600 fix that can happen over and over again because manufacturer used cheap plastic parts in the locks when they shouldn't have.
