8 Brake Light problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/15/2021

Exact same issue as NHTSA campaign id number : 15v759000 (described below). Video was taken of the incidents. Hyundai motor America "Hyundai" is recalling certain model 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. Consequence: if the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to rearward following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of park without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash. Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 136.

12 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/25/2021

Break lights continue to burn out. In the 5 yrs I've had the vehicle this is a constant issue. I've taken the vehicle to balise Hyundai replacing the bulbs multiple times and replaced one harness. Today both break lights had to have a full assembly replacement, including harness and the bulbs melted the plastic. The passenger break light even exploded that's how overheated it became. There have been no indication when these lights burn out. I've always had a stranger, neighbor, family or friend alert me that one of my lights were out. 4/26/21 a stranger driving behind pulled up next to me to alert me my tail lights were out. Not knowing break lights out is a safety hazard whether driving on street or highway. The back window has an additional light that has continued to work. In the last 3 years my driving was reduced more than 60% as I relocated to work from home. The vehicle was serviced today 6/2/21 at hiley Hyundai who performed the most recent inspection and diagnostic on the vehicle, as well as performed the repairs.

13 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

Driver side break light bulb no longer work properly. Even though its been changed it works sporadically because the bulb is loose in the socket of the wire harness or the socket will melt. This causes more than one safety issue. Car has no brake light on one side and could at anytime catch on fire. Dealership has said this is a problem among these vehicles but Hyundai hasn't addressed this issue. This needs to be addressed very soon. Tried of replace harnesses and bulbs.

14 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/01/2021

Sometimes my brake lights are on when I am not pressing on the brakes. Why is this happening. It seems that something is malfunctioning because it does not happen all the time.

16 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

When my brake light bulb went out we tried to change it. It was melted into socket. Took to dealer they said 250. 00 for each side. Both sides had melted in. You dont just replace the socket u replace wires and all. 250. 00 each side everytime they go out. I have since learned this happens in all Hyundai models and years. Why are they not recalled?.

17 Brake Light problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/16/2020

21 Brake Light problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

I have purchased my car in 2014. Since I have had this vehicle, I noticed that my brake lights were going out more than the norm (for other vehicles). I have received countless of tickets of the electrical issue that the 2012-2014 Hyundai Sonata owners have yet to get resolved/addressed by Hyundai. I have had several of my police friends and other current/former Hyundai Sonata owners to tell me that they have pulled many people over with the same year/make/model for brake lights. This electrical issue is hazardous for not only me and my child, but any other individuals who share the road with me. The most recent incident was the last and final straw for me. I was driving when another individual informed me that my brake light was out yet again. I went to the autozone to attempt to change my light bulb just to discover that the electrical mechanism that holds the bulb in place is broken. It appeared that the light bulb went through a mild burst of flames. To have this happen, especially as a mother, on the same side as my child sits is unacceptable! I'm sure that if you conduct your own research with police about vehicles being pulled over, you will surely see that the number one reason was because of a broken brake light. I hope to hear from someone soon.

22 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/04/2020

My right brake lights are always going out. I'm always changing it and a few weeks later it will go out again. I've brought it to the shop (allen Hyundai, gulfport, ms) and I got my brake lamp stopper replaced and he said my lights should work fine. I originally brought it in because my 3rd brake light would stay on while I'm driving and it would cause me to not be able to accelerate while driving. It goes now, but seems like it has trouble catching speed. I've spoke to other Sonata owners and they too have problems with their right brake light going out. It's a hazard and it also can give us tickets from the police. Please have this looked in to.

23 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

Drivers side brake light bulb exploded, and melted into the socket. I was advised that you cannot replace just the socket and Hyundai is quoting $400 for the entire wiring harness. This is a fire hazard and causes an additional safety hazard with the loss of the brake light.

24 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/12/2020

I am constantly having to have my brake lights and head lights replaced. They are blowing every 2-3 months. I have had a mechanic look at the wiring and there seems to be no corrosion. I am unsure why I am replacing bulbs every few months.

25 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

Every other month my brake lights and/or headlights are burning out. The brake lights are melting into the socket. I've replaced the sockets once and now I have to replace them again.

26 Brake Light problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

The brake sockets are burnt and lightbulbs are melting. My brake light continues to go out.

27 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/05/2020

On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, I was at a traffic light when someone motioned to speak to me in regards to my driver side brake light being out. I proceeded to drive to my dealership to get it changed out knowing it was probably just a burnt out bulb. The dealership service personnel informed me that the whole socket where the light bulb sits in had melted. This caused alot of erosion in the bulb socket and affected the wiring as well. I feel deeply that this can cause a fire considering the light bulb busted and caused the whole inside of the socket to melt. I payed $150. 00 to repair the socket and wiring to fix the problem for now. I was told it may not last long. I'm hoping this problem doesn't linger and create more problems. I am very concerned on how these light bulbs pop and melt everything. I would like this to be treated as a safety issue. Please help me resolve this issue. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

28 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

30 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

My head lamp bulb have been replaced 3 time in the past 6 months and the brake light bulbs have been replaced 5 times as of today. There has go to be something that is causing this to happen. No bulbs should have to be replaced this often.

31 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

Having to replace exterior back running / brake light bulbs at least or near every 2 months. Noticed that maybe the bulb is getting to hot causing the lens to wrap which is making changing the bulb a real task and hard to get the bulb back in place. Getting ready to change it again today (3/10/2020).

32 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

The rear brake light bulbs located in the trunk get extremely hot and melt the light assembly. I have replaced the bulbs at least 3 times per year (approximately 30 bulbs) since purchasing this car in August 2015. I have been told that the reason is faulty wiring by Hyundai. I believe this is a safety hazard because I am concerned that the bulbs may at some point reach extremely high temperatures and do more damage than just melting the light assembly.

33 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

The rear brake light bulbs located in the trunk compartment get extremely hot which has caused melting of the light assembly. This is an extreme fire hazard. It is believed that this is caused by faulty wiring by Hyundai. Since purchasing the vehicle in 2015, I have replaced approximately 20 bulbs.

34 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/31/2019

We have replaced the back brake light bulbs multiple times. Now the back right rear break light isn't working right. We took it to Hyundai and they said it was melted and the part we need to replace the wiring harness and just the part is over 400. 00. I am not spending 400. 00 on something that seems to be a manufacturer issue!! how has Hyundai not submitted a recall for this? there seems to be plenty of complaints about it.

35 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/29/2019

I parked my car after coming from work, went back out to change my brake light that was out, after I couldn't change my bulb because its toasted to the harness, I tried starting up my car which it did, but my shift lock was locked on on park and my traction control came on and I have no brake lights.
