2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/03/2019

2011 Hyundai Sonata. My headlights and interior started blinking off and on by themselves while I was driving at night for about a 30 or 40 second interval. Took to dealership and had it diagnosed and they found that the there was an intermittent internal fault with the multi-functional switch. Just got it back so I've only driven it about 50 miles at night so far no problem but it's too early to say for sure if this fixed the problem to my satisfaction. The problem only happened about 3 times but it is unpreditcable when the problem occurs but when it does happen and it's dark, it's not safe so we took it in right away on the third time because this was the longest period of time that the problem lasted. If you're having any problem like this, I suggest you get it looked at right away, very dangerous. It cost me $209 to have it fixed. The vehicle was moving about 55mph when this occurred. Date was 10-17-2019.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

I believe my vehicle may have a faulty headlight/signaling switch. Whenever I am driving it will randomly switch between the modes of drl, headlights or just off completely. Another issue I have more often then not is when I am trying to signal the blinkers will not turn on at all, and when they do its about 30sec to a minute after I initially moved the switch myself. All this happens while the car is in motion, lastly their have been three occasions where I have turned my car off completely and then came back hours later to find that the drl lights had turned on on their own, 1 out of the 3 times so far this issue has drained my battery. I feel like this might be a issue with the wiring inside the switch.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

When I exit my car and my headlight are turned to off position and close door, my running lights stay on. Which I have jad to chargr my battery due yo this. So er thought it was the headlamp switch. Still having the same problem. So looked up the problem and found a couple different forums stating that this is a relay problem. The biggest problem is that this relay is integrated into the fuse box. So in order fpr this problem to be fixed I am told I have to replace a fuse box. I am not the only one with thos issue. This happenes every time I exit my vechicle after driving it. This needs to be recalled. 2. My drivers side and passenger visors do not stay up. I have gotten hit in the head. This should also be on recall.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

The bulbs on my vehicle as well as several others Sonata's of the same model are having electrical failure when the lights are switched from off to on while driving . This causes the car to decelerate . I've also noticed electrical issues with bulbs for the brake lights and headlights at various speeds as well. For example , when it begins to rain if you turn on the lights in compliance with the state law, the car loses power and decelerates.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

2014 Sonata 56,000 miles I am requesting further information into my blinker switch makes my headlights flicker on and off when in use of the blinker. This is absolutely terrifying when this happened Friday night. . . And reproducible; I lost all seeing capability for a moment . As a mother and I travel to and from work during night hours I fear for my safety and others safety. I fear in the safety and design/construction in the vehicle; as stated I would like further investigation into why the headlights flickering, as well resolution and repair. I have found others on complaint sites with the identical issue and same year Sonata.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

I noticed as I was using my turn signal as I was getting on the highway at 5:00 in the morning that my headlights had appeared to go out. A few seconds later they came back on. I thought maybe I was seeing things but then it happened again as I was signaling to change lanes. For the rest of the 25 miles to get to work on a busy highway I stopped using my turn signal for fear that my headlights would not come back on. I took by car to the dealer to have the headlight issue and check engine light issue fixed. I was called while my car was still at the dealer that they could not replicate the headlight issue and that they replaced some part that had to do with the oil. Of course with the engine only being 2 years old I had to pay. I paid $458 and when I left the dealer the check engine light was off. I let my nephew borrow my car for a week and when I picked it up the check engine light was back on and was still having the headlight issue when signaling. I took it back to the dealer to have the same issues looked at again. A week goes by and I hear nothing but I do get an automated voicemail from the dealer regarding a great incentive to trade in my car for a newer model. No thanks!! I'm done with Hyundai. I call the dealer to check on the status of my car twice and get no answer. I drive to the dealer to speak to someone. Once again I am told they cannot replicate the headlight issue and diagnostic shows no issues but it could be the turn signal switch. Then the check engine light was on because the cam shift sensor went bad. Now I'm trying to figure out why this was not found the first time I brought the car in. So now I'm told the shop foreman was out all week and they are waiting for him to look at my car to see if he can figure out the headlight issue. I'm really irritated at this point and will be trading this car in and it won't be with Hyundai.

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

Headlights go off when using turn signal. Vehicle does not have to be in motion for this to occur. When this happens, inside dash lights will usually be brighter - the same as when the headlight switch is in the off position. This presents a great risk for nighttime driving. Not only are you without exterior lighting, but you are also blinded from the sudden change of interior lighting. I believe the faulty part is the multifunction switch because it can be tapped or quickly turned off and back on to get the headlights to come back on. Sometimes the turn signal does not even need to be activated for the headlights to turn off - only touched. It mostly occurs when signaling to turn left.

10 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

The first problem is about the headlights when turning the car on whether it is stationary or in motion, the headlights intermittently blinking or cutting off shortly which is dangerous when driving in dark. The problem may be related to the multi-function switch. The second problem is related to the battery, the battery on this car, 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS, can not last long and it needs to be replaced every couple of months. The problem is related to parasitic electricity in this model as the dealership told me. It might be caused by electricity drainage on the radio part. The third common problem in this model is the overheating engine. I realized the radiator fan is not working until I stop the car, open the hood, and then give the fan blades a push! also, the fan can turn on by itself only if I turn on the ac on high blowing level.

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

Put blinker on for right hand turn, made the turn, when the blinder stalk (which also contains headlight controls) returned to home position, the headlights went out, and the instrument panel indicated my lights had switched off. My light knob remained in auto, with the computer thought I turned them off. This was at night. I could not see when my lights turned off. It is very unsafe to be in motion and have your lights cut out!!! this problem happens frequently now, getting worse. It's obviously a bad connection within the blinker stalk, causing the light mode to change on its own when turning.

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

Headlights flicker and/or switch from low to high beams when using turn signal. The turn signal stalk contains the on/off/auto switch for the headlights as well as the high/low beam selection. This problem has happened several times when turning on the blinker or even when the turn stalk returns to off after completing the turn. It appears to be a short or bad contact in the turn signal and seems to only happen when the turn stalk is actually being moved or manipulated. This causes the headlights to flash or blink on the high beams and when they momentarily go to the off position the dash lights go to full intensity (just like during the day when the lights are off).

13 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

14 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/12/2016

While driving at night, the headlights will turn off when using the turn signal or turning on the high beams, I have to wiggle the headlight switch to get them to come back on. I have sent Hyundai an email concerning this problem as it is a very serious safety issue and the problem is getting worse, but of course there has been no response from Hyundai. With all of the complaints on the internet about this problem. Hyundai needs to issue a recall.

15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/09/2016

With headlights engaged at night (with headlight switch in auto or manual) the dash lights will flicker and headlights will momentarily go out when the turn signal is engaged. 17 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Takata recall - in September 2014 my battery were going dead. Changed battery and it went dead also. After the 4th time for the battery to go dead, noticed the sided beams were on. When I had the lights in the auto position, when going underneath a bridge, the lights will comes on and goes off accordingly to the light outside. When daylight, you will not know known if your lights are on or off. So this was problem was the cause for my battery to go dead. Started noticing at night when turning off vehicle after using headlights, the side beams will not cut off until after trying 15 to 20 minutes of trying to turning it off. Took vehicle to dealer, at first they thought it were the switch. After one hour of waiting, found out it was not the switch and they had put the old switch back. Stated that it was the junction box needed to be replace.

19 Headlight Switch problem of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

The light emitted by the low beam headlights is so focused as to create a tunnel effect. This non-diffused light does not allow for any illumination other than straight ahead and no higher than the level of the headlamp. In conditions of total darkness, it is as if your are wearing a long brimmed cap with blinders. As you drive up or down a hill, the light shines "into" the rise or dip in the road. When going around a corner, the light does not "lead" the vehicle around the bend, it "lags" behind creating a dark zone as the car goes around the bend. When the bright lights are switched on, the tunnel effect disappears. Hyundai has said there is nothing wrong with the lamps or with their design. They contend that it is a design feature of the particular lamps and that they are effective. The vehicle is not safe to drive in the dark.
