36 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

6,500 miles into vehicle use, vehicle failed to start up while parked. Upon entering vehicle, pressing brake pedal, and pushing start on push-button start, screen would display "push brake pedal to start vehicle. " the vehicle failed to acknowledge brake pedal was being pressed. After 5 minutes of continuously pressing brake pedal down and simultaneously pressing start button, vehicle eventually started. Approximately 5 additional failures to start occurred before I brought vehicle in to selling dealer. The dealer diagnosed the problem, which my receipt lists as a a faulty brake lamp switch. Technician removed and replaced brake lamp switch. Approximately one week after vehicle was "fixed," the vehicle failed to start in the same fashion as had previously occurred. I had vehicle towed to dealership. Dealership again diagnosed same problem and replaced same part (brake lamp switch) as previously replaced. I have had vehicle for three days since last (second) repair. I will continue to monitor and report if issue appears again.

37 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

This is the third time that I have gone to start the car and it failed to start because of a defective brake pedal sensor. The sensor has been replaced twice now. The second incident did not leave any codes for the dealership to find a problem due to the battery being disconnected. This appears to be a known problem for this model.

38 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

I am the owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata limited. Within the last 2 days it has not started 4 times. The message screen within the car says "press brake to start". It will not allow me to depress the brake peddle at all, to have the engine start. Many dash system lights go on, but the car will not start. The electrical system definately has an issue. I looked on the internet to see if others have experienced the same problem. . . . I am still in shock. . . . !!!! hundreds from all over the USA have had the same problem and from what I read. . . . Nothing has been done to correct this problem. I drive 100 miles to work and I must have a reliable car. Here is a beautiful looking car sitting in our garage not able to start!!! this is really a problem. Please register this complaint and hopefully Hyundai is doing something to help us poor folks that bought these cars.

39 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/29/2011

Car would not start. . Dealer replaced brake switch.

40 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/26/2011

The constant reoccurring problem is my car will not start. I have been stranded several times and have each one documented. I also have problems with the steering wheel locking and the brakes are unable to press. I have contacted an attorney regarding the lemon law and she has notified the Hyundai motor America. My car is currently in the repair shop again and this has gone on for the 2 1/2 years I have owned it. There are over 598,000 complaints against this model of car and the problems are very serious and can cause deadly accidents. My car will not click out of the cruise control feature so I cannot use that feature. The brake lights do not always work and I have been stopped by cars behind me to tell me I have no lights and they almost hit me. What does it take to get this model of car recalled before many deaths occur. The internet has this problem documented and a recall was issued to replace that switch. I have taken my car in to have the brake light sensor replaced twice and it still occurs. I have to continue to pay payments on this car while I drive a rental car. I basically do not have a safe car to drive so I can't go anywhere in fear of being stranded. Can you please look into this and safe lives before it is too late?.

42 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

I have owned my 2011 Hyundai Sonata for one year. On July 15, 2011, I went to start the car and I could not depress the brake or start the car. The acc stuff would come on but no ignition to the motor. I tried and tried to start it and ended up calling the dealership. I was told to "kick" the brake pedal "hard" several times; which I did. I finally got it started and drove it to the dealership. I was told "brake light switch" replaced. Left the dealership and drove to my office and when I went to tried to start the car to leave the car would not start, but this time I had to call roadside assistance for the car to be towed back to dealership. Dealership told me they replaced brake light switch again. Now the traction control light comes on and my brake lights are not working. When I did get it to start the car would not go into any gear; it just was locked in park. Well, yesterday, July 20, 2011 the car had to be towed again because of all the same problems. So, the car has been back to the dealership three times within the past five days; two of which the car was towed. I am very concerned about my safety because I believe the brakes have something to do with the air bags not to mention the unknown electrical issues.

43 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

2011 Hyundai Sonata limited with push button start. Purchased the car in may 2011. At 1600 miles, the car would not start. Brake will not depress in order to start car. Dealership replaced brake light sensor part #93810-3s000. At 3200 miles, the same problem occurred. Dealership will not acknowledge that there is a problem, since they can not replicate the problem. . This is an obvious reoccurring issue which Hyundai needs to recognize and find a definite repair. Most consumers do not have the free time to wait numerous hours for service help while attempting to start a new car that should start without flaw. Do not purchase a new Hyundai Sonata. It may look like a luxury car - remember, looks are deceiving.

44 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/28/2011

My 2011 Sonata has failed to start 3 times this past month. The brake will not depress and it appears that it doesn't recognize that I have the key. It has a push button start and the key does not go in the ignition. After a few hours it starts. I have been stranded in the dark and this made it a safety issue on a personal basis.

45 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The engine failed to start. When you press on the start pedal, it locks up and does not recognize the key fob in the vehicle. The dealer said the brake switch needed to be replaced. This happened in June 2011 and now again in July 2012. It looks as if I will have to take it in every year for the same problem. The esc electronic stability control light comes on also during this issue perhaps the 2 go hand in hand. This is totally unacceptable after I paid 25k for this vehicle. No more Hyundais for me at least not in my lifetime!!.

46 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/27/2011

I initially unlock the vehicle by either depressing the unlock button on the key fob or pressing the unlock button on the outside door handle. Once unlocked, I entered the vehicle and attach the seat belt. I place the key fob on the dashboard, depress the brake pedal and press the engine start button. The electrical system will cycle through acc and on mode but the car will not start. A check of the battery system show that the car battery is at full power. This problem occurs intermittently. The only reliable solution for starting the car is to depress the brake pedal and depress the engine start button for a minimum of 10 seconds. I've placed the key fob in several locations in the car (dashboard, cup holder, Smart key holder) with no repeatable success. After a visit to a dealership, they cannot find a problem. However, a search on the internet shows several there owners experiencing the same problem.

47 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/26/2011

2011 Hyundai Sonata failed to start. I tried several times and the key light was lit on the dash panel. Tried several times and press brake pedal was screaming at me as I pressed the darn thing. Tried the key bob in the slot in the storage area and same result. Got out of the car and closed and locked the doors. Back in and tried again with the same results. Called my next customer and told them I would be late as my car would not start. Finally after 20 minutes I was able to get the car started with the bob in the storage area. Went straight to the dealer -they have never heard of this happening.

48 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/25/2011

For the third time I have gotten in my 2011 Hyundai Sonata se and it will not start (push to start). The screen will either say the key is not in the vehicle or it will say press brake pedal to start (the key is certainly in the vehicle, how else did I get in with it locked). After repeatedly getting in and out of the car, locking and unlocking pressing the break pads, trying everything and then some for about a half hour the vehicle still will not start. This is the fourth Hyundai I have purchased, second brand new and I have never had problems like this before but this is ridiculous. I've taken it to the dealer and they say they have never heard of this happening even though I have found numerous complaints for it online (what sources are they using, google turns up plenty of information). This is the third time I have been stranded in a dark, potentially dangerous area unable to start my brand new car that has already had a recall. I expect more than this. I will drop it off at the dealership again and after that I am going to invoke the lemon law. One recall is bad enough I would at least like to be able to start my vehicle. The battery is fine both in the car and the remote. At 8,000 I should not have any issues!.

50 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/23/2008

Car has just over 62,000 miles and has had all maintenance completed on time. Leaving the gym I unlocked my doors using the remote and got in. I started the car and fiddled with the radio for a couple minutes before pulling out. When I got on the road the locks all locked (as if I had pressed the remote locking button!). I pressed the "unlock" button on the drivers side door panel, only to have the alarm go off and the hazard lights come on as I drove down the road. I pulled over and used the remote to lock the car back and unlock it again, and the alarm stopped. I turned off the car and it will not start. The engine will not even turn over or try to turn when I try to start. The dome lights stay on so I know it's not the battery (which is brand new). I tried leaving it for a few minutes and starting again, but still nothing happened. I will have it towed to the dealership in the morning to find out what the problem is.

52 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/20/2007

One morning the car would not unlock with the keyless remote, I unlocked it with the key, then went to the store and locked it. Came out of the store then I unlocked it with the key again and started driving down the street. About 5 min into the drive, my doors automatically locked. At this point I was a little shocked because my doors never lock. Then all of a sudden the alarm started to sound. I was very afraid that the car would lock up. I finally kept pressing the unlock button on the key ring and it shut off. No problems till after work. The car door unlocked with the electric unlocker, as soon as I got in the alarm went off and the car would not start. I started pressing the button again, the alarm went off. No problem for about a week, took it to the shop, nothing could be found once again. I had told them the last time I took it in that the doors sometimes do not unlock right away. After picking it up from the shop I drove about 10 miles to a store and when I came out, the car would not start. I had to have it jumped. The car worked again, it is an on and off issue that I have had for a I would also like to let you know that on more then one occasion I have also let Hyundai of el paso know that there is something wrong with my car because it is making ticking noises, and the central locking/unlocking system. I forgot to mention this on the previous occasion. Each time the service rep took my car in, he told me nothing could be found. My car at times will not unlock. Right before the last time I brought it to the shop something very strange happened. I told the service clerk the story and once again, they could not find anything wrong. Again this seems to me to be an electrical problem. I am since my car has a little over 60,000 miles this is in four parts sorry that I had to break this up into parts there are 4 complaints filed.
