Brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, car looses acceleration and looses power. When driving on cruise control, break will depress and turn cruise off and on in dash.

When trying to set my cruise control a message pops up on my dash saying scc conditions not met.
Out of no where the transmission started to give me issues. It now takes longer for the gear to change from a stop, reving my car past 4,000 rpm's to 5,000rpm's. When breaking the gears jerk when lowering, and when driving with cruise control, my car will not stay the same pace. It wil lag or it will kick higher, either way making my car jerk.

Prior to this all starting the esc dash light came on. We pulled over, shut the car off, turned it back on and the light went off. Not sure if it was related but the acceleration issues started the same day. When pushing on the gas pedal at times the car does not accelerate. Immediately leaving off of the gas pedal and pushing again it will then accelerate. It appears completely random and happens sporadically at different speeds. Happened 9 times within 3 days. 4 times within the first 30 minutes of a trip and then not again for 5 hours. I took it into the dealership and had the brake pedal stopper replaced which is under extended warranty 2 days ago and it just happened twice again. I also couldn't set the cruise control while going up a hill. I set it, left my foot off of the gas and it immediately decelerated. The cruise then worked on a level surface. After a google search this appears to be a major problem with 2011-2013 Sonatas and can be a very severe safety issue. My husband who is a truck driver and gas driven over 1 million miles has never heard of this happening. This does not appear to be normal wear and tear of a car. Not sure exact speed at time of incidents but between 30-60mph.
While driving on the highway, a notice was shown on the dashboard that the hybrid system and cruise control system were no longer functional. The vehicle then started to accelerate, uphill, without the gas pedal being engaged. The vehicle was taken off the highway and when coming to a near complete stop the vehicle stopped working completely. After restarting the vehicle and driving it to a safe place to park a notice indicated the breaks were no longer functional. The car was subsequently towed. The vehicle has had numerous repairs since and is still experiencing the same issue(s) as of 12/05/2019.

While driving at any speed with the gas pedal depressed, the car will suddenly slow down when I hit a pothole or bump in the road. It does the same thing when using cruise control. For example, I'll be driving 50mph and I'll hit a bump in the road and my rpm and speed will drop. If I take my foot off of the gas then re press it, it re engages and accelerates again.
The cruise control comes on by itself during normal driving. After the "cruise" light comes on the "set" light illuminates and the vehicle accelerates without warning. The brake will momentarily stop the acceleration, but the acceleration resumes once the brake pedal is released. It occurs above 25 mph. It kept accelerating and would have continued if I hadn't hit the brakes. I happens regularly, and we have parked the vehicle.

Since I bought this vehicle, they had replaced the engie due to,the recall, they had to,replace my fual sensors, steering column piece, and another part. But since they replaced my engine, my electrical in my car is,mever accurate. Speed sensoer is wrong, the radio shorts all the time, and my cruise control doesnt work. The problems countniue to get worse especially with the electrical. This car has costed me 1000's of dollars and it just countniues to have problems. I have taken it to Hyundai in redlands CA. They have all documentation on the vehicle.

I was driving very slowly to make a turn into my garage when the car accelerated on its own and hit the side of my house breaking through a patio guard rail. The front wheels of the car went over the bulkhead. Insurance company sent a wrecker to retrieve the vehicle. The insurance company totaled the car. This unintended acceleration had occurred once when I was driving on a state road in cruise control when the car accelerated beyond the set cruise control speed. This occurred again on the day before the accident. This unintended acceleration had also occurred when my husband was driving the car while in speed control.
Cruise control functions and indicator lights do not work consistently. Tried many times at highway speeds. False indications. Took to dealer for service and they indicated that they could not fix or replicate the problem.
Takata recall -all of the exterior lights on the car will blow within a few weeks of replacing. -the back lights will melt into the bulb socket and require the entire unit to be replaced. -the brake lights all shut off, even though the bulbs are fine. - cruise control wont work (this came on at the same time of the computer update on engine recall. -traction control warning light came on after recall to update computer on engine (from previous engine recall) -my radio completely stopped working after the initial recall for engine replacement.
I was just entering the city slowing from a 55 mph zone to a 45 coming up to a traffic light when I hit the brake to release the cruise control, as I slowed down with my foot still breaking then released the brake the cruise tried to reactivate. I pressed the brake again and released and again the cruise feature tried to accelerate. I did notice that the 'set' light was off as it does when you brake but the cruise was still trying to speed up when brake released. I purchased this vehicle new, it has a little over 95k miles, but I have never had this issue before. I came to a stop at the light at which time when I released the brake it was not trying to self-activate. Especially coming into city traffic this was very concerning.

Issue: cruise control speeds up too much going uphill, and slows down too much going downhill. Description: I set my cruise control to 75mph, the car will go over 77mph when going uphill, and slows down below 73mph when going downhill without any driver input. This doesn't occur on other gasoline only Hyundai I drove such as santa fe. It only happens on my Sonata hybrid. I guess Hyundai may need to look into how the electric motor works with cruise control.
Cruise control works erratically. Will turn on, but the "set" and "cancel" buttons often do not respond when pressed. When attempting to engage the "set" button, it either does not work, or will engage but the car will start accelerating and requires a tap on the brakes to disengage. When the set button does engage properly, the cancel button does not respond when pressed, and brakes must be applied to disengage the cruise control. In the past, this issue had occurred sporadically. The cruise control would work fine for a period of time, but then these set and cancel function issues would reappear. Lately, however, the problem has been persistent.
When attempting to initiate cruise control on the highway only the on/off button will work, show with the illumination of the cruise light on the dash console. The set and resume buttons will only work approximately 30% of the time and the cancel button never works. When the system is allowing me to set it the only way to disengage it is via the brake.
Approximately 6 months ago I was driving on a secondary road in heavy traffic. With cruise control at 45 mph I stepped on the brake as traffic slowed ahead of me and the engine would not disengage or slow. I had to put the car in neutral and assist the brakes with the emergency brake to stop. The throttle control assembly was replaced. Two days ago on a highway the situation repeated; I stepped on the brake and the engine would not disengage or slow and I had to stop with putting the car in neutral and the emergency brake. I am selling the car at a loss for parts. It is not safe to drive.

The cruise control set function does not work. I can turn on the cruise control, but I can not engage it. The switch was replaced when this problem developed when the car was under warranty. However, the problem has recurred and the car is no longer under warranty.
~tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. On several occasions, while driving 70 mph with the cruise control engaged, the speed increased to 80 mph. The contact was forced to apply the brake pedal twice before the cruise control disengaged to approximately 5 mph. the failure mileage was 116,350.
The cruise control buttons on the steering wheel do not work 50% of the time until you hit the steering wheel then the set button will work. I found several complaints about this searching online for 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata's.
When the cruise control is on the set and cancel buttons on the steering wheel don't work more than half the time, this is a dangerous issue so there needs to be a recall TSB for this as a quick google search showed this is a widespread issue on the Hyundai Sonata.
Cruise control does no always engage.
Https://youtu. Be/z4thv5a3lrk dynamic cruise control that stops and starts in bumper-to-bumper traffic is what sold me on this car. Lamentably, I did not know Hyundai excludes aeb from hybrid ltd ultras. As the video shows, frantic beeping from the forward collision warning system was not accompanied by any braking at all. I slammed on them too late. I was in dcc mode when the warning sounded. Dcc can gradually slow from freeway speed to a stop and resume, but fcw apparently cancels dcc's braking! this must be no more than a difference in software between gas-only and hybrid ltd ultras because all sensing and control hardware are identical. Hyundai's response to my inquiries are just repetitious confirmations of what I already discovered the hard and expensive way.

1. Cruise control is jerky and rough on acceleration and deceleration 2. Main issue I have with this car is that the fuel gauge is incredibly inaccurate. If it reads at 1/8 tank, I can only put in 12-13 gallons. Each "tick" mark on the gauge value ranges from about 9 miles to 63 miles despite the fact that it regularly gets 32+ mpg combined city/highway. When I complained to the dealership (I bought it used) they replaced the vaccuum cylinder, which helped with filling the tank (it would previously just shut off mysteriously during fill-ups) but then the gas gauge measured even worse. The "range" as calculated by the car's computer is always very low and drops off precipitously even though I know (by the trip meter) that I haven't gone far enough to have used as much gas as it would appear. Despite the obvious flaws of the gauge, the codes still read that it is working "normally" and to have it covered by the warranty, I have to experience a complete failure of the fuel sending units, I. E. Catastrophic break down. I would like to have them replaced before it gets to that point.
Cruise control fails to disengage by repeatedly and firmly depressing the cancel switch on the steering wheel. Cruise control must be disengaged by manually depressing the brake pedal. Upon harshly hitting the wheel in the general proximity of the switch it will sometimes begin to work again randomly, other times it will not function at all.
I've driven this car since 2011 and have not had an issue like this before. Last week, (October, 1, 2017). While driving down an off-ramp at ~35 mph, my 2010 Hyundai Sonata's esc off light came on and would not go off ; at the same time my cruise control has stopped working. When I turn the car off and back on again, the esc off light is off, but within 5-7 minutes of driving it comes back on again and stays on and the cruise control does not work now regardless of if the esc off light is on or not. This occurs now every time I drive the car. At first the esc off light is off, and every time after the first 5-7 minutes of driving it lights up. (and pushing the esc off button does not affect it. ) this occurs regardless of where I am driving or how (on on a two-lane, on the highway, in my driveway, turning, stopping, accelerating etc. The esc off light stays on and the cruise control light comes on when I push the cc button, but when I try to push the button to engage the speed set, nothing happens, it will not engage. ) I took it to the only Hyundai dealership within 100 miles of where I live, and I was told it would be $120. 00 just to diagnose the problem. The csr that set up my appointment said he thought it might be the break light switch. I researched the issue myself, and apparently there has been a massive recall of various 2007-2011 Hyundai's (sonata's included) that had faulty break light switches and needed to be replaced. I was never made aware of this recall/defect. Now, after 7 years and 133,000 miles (I'm way over the warranty period) and have to pay $ that I do not have just to get it "diagnosed" not to mention how much it will cost to "fix" the problem. Does the recall still cover my vehicle? and if not, is there a way I can order the part myself and replace it to see if that corrects the issue? -desperate in TN-.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lunged forward and backwards, lost power, and the cruise control disengaged. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to automax Hyundai del city (4401 tinker diagonal st, del city, ok 73115, phone number: (405) 606-4000), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
The buttons and horn on the steering wheel are not working, nothing happens when you push any of the buttons. Cruise control, odomiter reset, trip button, volume, bluetooth, radio station change, and horn do not work. The horn not working is a huge safety issue, I cannot let anyone know I am near or they are too close to me. While driving and while in parked mode.
The cruise control malfunctions, when you press the steering wheel controls it may stay on even though you hit cancel. If you hit the reduce speed button, it may cancel cruise control, speed it up, or reduce speed. Also, the airbag deployed notification randomly turns on. It appears that some wiring running on the top middle of the steering wheel, directly under the airbag, is crowded or just malfunctioning. This happens when the vehicle is in motion while attempting to set or engage the cruise control.
Cruise control will not cancel with cancel button. Will happen anytime I'm driving on highway and set the cruise control.
When the headlights are in use, the car randomly loses power, headlights turn off, entire car just shuts down without warning, then after several seconds, powers back on. The lights, engine, everything turns off. Also, when headlights are in use, cruise control and stability do not work. The vehicle is in motion and this has happened on highways and city streets. I have taken my vehicle to the two nearest dealers and they refused to fix the vehicle. Generally, this happens when braking, using turn signals, changing to hi beam/low beam, but has also happened for no reason at all.
While driving at 70 mph on the highway with adaptive cruise control operational, the vehicle failed to respond on 3 different occasions to the sudden and unexpected presence of a vehicle that unsafely moved into my traffic lane just feet ahead of my vehicle. Instead of my vehicle backing off, my vehicle was moving closer and closer to the car ahead and I had to apply the brakes in order to avoid crashing into the vehicle in front of us. It was as if the adaptive cruise control system was unable to "see" situations when confronted with vehicles that suddenly appear in front of my vehicle and are extremely close. In all other respects, that adaptive speed control system worked perfectly.
Knocking in the engine, cruise control doesn't go off when brake is pressed, shift lock doesn't work. Have to manually press override button to put in gear. Car stalls sometimes after a turn. Ecs light is constantly on. Loss of power sometimes, had to replace brake light bulb twice in the last 6 months and they were completely black, like burnt. Vehicle was generally in motion when issues occurred.
Cruise control wont engage. Buttons for cruse control intermently work. When and if cruise control does engage buttons cancel, set, +/- speed may or may not operate. Setting cruise control and increasing or decreasing accelerator speed may or may not engage. May have no control if unintended acceleration hapens. No control of speed and settings. Numerous Sonata ownwers are having this problem. Google problem and its well know. What is Hyundai doing to prevent or fix the problem if and when unintended accleration occurs. Or is Hyundai going to wait untill someone mentions class action lawsuit like in the replacement of Sonata engines. . . . .
"takada recall" the push to start won't work sometimes, (stationary )it has me stranded at times. I have had the batteries changed several times and it still won't work, my front suspension is making a very loud noise when I step on my brakes(everytime I'm in motion) I've had new brake pads, rotors and $700 michelin tires put on in Aug 2017 and this noise is getting worst, the wiper blades are top of the line and I cannot drive at night or in the rain because it's very hard to see, lastly I try to use my cruise control on the (highway) and I set it and bounces back down very low.
