Air Bag Problems of Hyundai Tiburon

This vehicle was in a hit-and-run accident on the highway. It hit the wall going 65mph and the airbags did not deploy causing me to have a spinal injury, bruised ribs, a cracked sternum, a concussion, and a fractured metatarsal. After the first collision, the car rolled back and hit the wall a second time which the airbags still did not deploy. It is totaled and in the hands of state farm.

Takata recall, couldn't see for a week. Was cut up on left side as was vision gone on left. Suffered and still suffering brain damage from airbag hitting me so hard. That car has ruined my life. I constantly shake from neck up on left side. I wish I would if died in the accident. That's how much it has affected me. I stay in the house by myself all day, every day. Its so embarrassing for me. I started my car at approximately 8 a. M. On 6/26/13 to go to work. One second after the engine fired, the steering wheel airbag blew up in my face. I have never had an accident in this car. The vehicle was stationary at the time and on my property with no evidence of anything out of the ordinary. After some troublesome negotiations, Hyundai motor America agreed to make a "one-time goodwill repair" of the vehicle's airbag components in exchange for signing my life away regarding the vehicle. I don't know if they reported this defect to you when I called their regional office in austell georgia on the day of the incident. However, I am reporting it now, in the hope that this doesn't happen to someone driving down a texas highway at 80 mph. Their flippant attitude concerning this, to me, is disturbing. I have not yet had the car repaired and am afraid to drive it.

This report is being filed by an accident reconstructionist at the request of the vehicle's insurance carrier. Vehicle was proceeding in the left lane of a 4-lane (2 lanes in each direction, divided by a double-yellow center-line) state highway when operator's airbag deployed for no apparent reason, causing loss of control. While driving, the srs light would appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The driver was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic placed the vehicle on a diagnostic machine, but the problem could not be duplicated. I have never received any recall notices at my address, by phone email, not even face to face with the dealer when I took the car to the dealership. I stumbled across this by accident trying to find online how to fix my electronic key, that was Friday, February, 28, 2014. From 2002 to now, no mail, except to extend my warranty. They could reach me then. The dealer never informed me or said anything about a recall on my airbags, light has been on for years, I was told the airbag was no big deal, seatbelt replacement, fuel tank, suspension, I got locked in the car and I couldn't get out, I never know if I will be able to get my car to unlock. It locks itself which is scary, I am florida and if I get locked in again, with no a/c I can die quickly, it is called barters syndrome so I am on disability, I cannot keep potassium in my body which in a car locked in I could easily die, I can the dealer didn't utter the work recall or anything close to the word. He gave me prices to fix all these problem on the link below he is giving me these prices like I have to fix these at my expense am supposed to fix these recalls. If I can't get help or guidance I just the car the until it does kill me. , then my family will sue, will sue Hyundai and anyone else. My 16 year old daughter rear ended a vehicle and the airbag deployed breaking her elbow in 6 places and her humerus detached from the elbow. The accident happened on February 13, 2003 and she has limited use of her right arm as of today. She has had two surgeries and goes to occupational rehab three times a week. Please let me know if you have had any other complaints about injuries from the airbags in the 1998 Tiburon.

In reality, the new vehicle, which I leased was plagued with numerous handicaps. The knob on stick shift keeps falling off-appears to be broken. Re-attached knob and centered face plate only to have knob fall off again still broken. July 18 2002 a/c fumes coming thru vents this is caused by grease on wheel from band clamp loose off cv boot. July 18 2002 steering wheel shakes at high speed- car sways at rear. Steering wheel off center, they adjusted, still shakes. July 18 2002 park and emergency brake defective. Park brake loose and brake light flashes. Emergency brake loose/does not hold, they fixed both, they are broken again Jan 9th. Dec 18 2002 sunroof will not open requires a new motor and module, which was installed. When I picked up the car I tested it and it still would not open. They said make another appointment in the new year. Dec 18 2002 driver side window defective-goes up very slow yes, power window is dragging. We will order a new one. Jan 10/03 still no part. Bob (service manager) will call me when parts are in. Jan 17th, I called, yes parts are in, as per bob the letter is in the mail. As of Feb 25/03 I have yet to receive that letter. May 15 2002 I bought (from Hyundai showroom) blue neon lights for windshield wipers $22. 59 had their service dept install them $30. The first time I washed my car they fell off. Yes, they were defective. June 11 Hyundai re-installed my old ones and in doing so dented the car roof. Aug 28 2002 with the pending possibility of lay-off I went into the dealership to see what my options were. The manager directed me to call financial lynx leasing CO. Financial lynx directed me to call dealership. The manager told me I could buy out my lease for $6000 at that time. Thank god I didn?t get laid-off. I am not looking to get out of my lease. While traveling at 70 mph, the consumer applied the brakes and the steering wheel had gone to the left and caused the consumer to hit the guardrail. The vehicle was totaled upon impact. Also, none of the air bags deployed. The c onsumer belived there was a problem with the abs as well.

Consumer stated while traveling at normal speed, another driver hit consumer which caused the throttle to stick. Consumer lost control and only the front passenger airbag deployed. The seat belt was on and consumer will send pictures. Please provide any further information.
