I just recently purchased my vehicle. I'm in the military so I put a lot of miles on it driving home all the time. After a month and a half and 5000 miles roughly, my clutch started slipping and then gave out. It was sudden and complete. The tech's at the dealership I took it to stated that my clutch had been severely fried like I was racing it. Fortunately they didn't remove my warranty but they did charge me $900 for it.

I purchased a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon used with 24,000 miles on the vehicle. I drove it for approximately 6,000 miles with no evident problems. Suddenly the clutch went out of the car. I found out that the clutch had already been replaced at 18,000 miles due to a failed bearing/ceased fly wheel. Hyundai dealership told my sales agent that the clutch would be replaced under the 6/60,000 warranty. I had the car towed to them. After taking the clutch off, they decided the failure was due to wear and tear and that the warranty would not cover a wear and tear item. I contacted customer service and they refused to authorize repairs. On carspace automotive forums, I have found that numerous 2003 Tiburon purchases have resulted in failed clutches multiple times in the early life of the vehicle. It is obvious that this is defective equipment and Hyundai should be forced to recall the clutch assembly and transmission in these vehicles. Mechanics I talked to believe the transmission is not completely releasing the clutch. This vehicle was purchased by my son who is a us marine. I think it is disgraceful that a korean company is cheating our young soldiers.

I have 2006 Hyundai Tiburon and at 9440 miles I started having clutch problems and was told that this is normal and now the car is not even a year old and has 17000 miles on it and it is in the shop to get a new clutch witch is about 900. 00 dollars. This seems to be something that is happening a lot. The warranty is 5 years bumper to bumper. Or the clutch is 12000 miles but I see why they just brushed me off at 9440 miles so the could get the money in 2500 more miles.
I have a lot of trouble putting the car in gear (6-speed manual) I. E. 1st and reverse. I really have to pull or push the stick very hard. I have read a lot of similar complaints about this car ( 03 Hyundai Tiburon ) and feel something needs to be done please help us.
2004 Tiburon had a problem with the air condition, speakers rattle, cigarette lighter and problems when switching to first and reverse gears. The sun roof didn't close properly. The air bag light illuminated due to a loose connection under the seat. One of the taillights were out.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon with less that 20000 miles on it, I took the car to the dealer ( rick case Hyundai) on weston, florida because the gears when I shift are not working properly, I left the car in the dealer and I receive a call from rick case stating that I have to authorized the 5 hours that will take to diagnostic what was wrong with the car, I told then that this car come with 5 years / 60,000 bumper to bumper miles warranty and I didn't think I was liable for any cost. The dealer when further to say that most likely cause of damage was the clutch on the car and that was not cover under the warranty, I did sign the paper as to the 5 hours to inspect the vehicle at $95. 00 per hours which is ridiculous to me that it will take 5 hours to know what's wrong with the car, I further when in to different website on the internet to find about Hyundai warranty and if other people had same problems, I was shocked to found that so many people had the same problem with this particular car (tiburon) and that every time Hyundai has put the blame on owners stating that they don't know how to drive stick shift, there is even a class action suit in California for the 2003 Tiburon after some lawyers have found that Hyundai have know in the past that this problem is cause by poor quality parts and that they have make owners like me to pay around $2000. 00 for repairs in cars that is supposed to be cover by warranty, Hyundai is misleading the public with all those ads about american best warranty, I do believe that you as part of my government should investigate and bring this company to the same standard as to american car manufacture, as of myself I will make sure that everyone knows how this company treat customer and how they lie as to the warranty.

I own a 2003 Tiburon with the 2. 7l. I purchased the car in 2003. Around 14 thousand miles or so my clutch began slipping and then eventually failed. The car had a failure of the clutch disk, pressure plate, and flywheel, and the dealer informed the driver the failure was their fault and it would not be covered. A one time good will repair was made and instead of the exorbitant $2000 asked instead we only paid $500. The car was purchased for about $20,000. Hyundai asks for $2,000, 10% of the cost of the vehicle to repair it. 40,000 miles have now reached the odometer, and the clutch has now failed again. The clutch that is currently in my vehicle is one replaced in 2003 still. Hyundai revised the clutch components due to malformed clutch plates in 2004, yet refuses to acknowledge or compensate the owners. Two of the three parts of the vehicle that have failed are covered by Hyundai's "America's best warranty", the flywheel and pressure plate. Because the deformed compound on the clutch disk is being blamed on the vehicle operator, Hyundai has therefore absolved itself of any responsibility, claiming if it weren't for the operator induced failure of the clutch disk, the pressure plate and flywheel would still be ok. If the parts were replaced under warranty by a dealership then the regional parts director inspects it and deems it shouldn't have, the dealer must pay. This is why so many customers have to wrongly pay. If you dispute the claims of the technicians at Hyundai they will take your car apart and inspect, and if it is deemed its the customers fault, the company will not even reassemble the car for you. You must pay them do it! the transmission case had major scraping and abrasion due to the pressure plate movement. The second set of clutch components were removed personally, and therefore are submittable for inspection and review. Photographs documenting the wear and abrasion inside the transmission case are available.
My brand new Hyundai Tiburon's clutch failed. I felt it slipping for a few days, I did not know it was slipping because I have never felt a clutch slp until this new car, and it went out. I pulled over and got it towed. I was told that the clutch was "wasted" and it would cost $1400. 00 to replace. This clutch was less than 18 months old and I have driven manual for years prior to this car. I was told it was my driving ability and that there was no leeway. I saw that there is a class action suit for this type of vehicle and the same story I have is posted all over the internet. This has to be addressed because people are getting their money stolen. I told them I was going to another garage who charge $900. 00. When they heard that they lowered their price to $900. If I had not stated another garage they would have hustled me and I'm sure they have hustled others. They have to be stopped.
My transmission reverse gear failed for the second time April of this year. The clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, etc was replaced in may of this year (06). In October of this year I had my transmission replaced (my third!!) for the reverse gear failure. While the service department had the tranny out they discovered that my clutch was shot, as well as the flywheel. This would be the third clutch and flywheel. Thanks goodness the clutch was still under warranty. I have an 86 BMW with 270k miles and it has the same drivetrain!!!.
I recently purchased a Hyundai Tiburon 2006. At 3500 miles the clutch has gone out, completely. I have owned approximately 4 stick shifts and have been able to drive a stick for 20 years. Two of the manual transmission vehicles I owned (one a Saturn, the other an Audi) had more than 100k on them when I sold or replaced them. The dealership is replacing the clutch for free, but I am concerned, after reading of similar and numerous other stories on the web, that this will be a continual problem.
My 2004 Hyundai gt clutch went at 39,000 miles. I am not an aggressive driver and I have driven manual transmission cars for 10 years never having had a clutch problem before. This is not covered by warranty. It is clear to me that this clutch is a defect. I am a mechanic and this clutch did not fail like they typically do there was no slipping or indication of a wear issue before it failed. Just a rattling sound from what seemed to be the throw out bearing that started about 5 days before the failure. Then in the middle of a 6 hour drive there was a cluck when I shifted followed by a hard shift and then no power transfer at all. This left me in a bind I was stranded for 3 hours 4 hours from home so I had to have it towed to a dealer where they gave me an estimate of 1200 dollars for parts and labor only to find out when they got it apart that the flywheel had also been damaged and the new price would be 2100 dollars. For this kind of damage to occur in this little time I would have had to been really hot rodding it, and that's not me. I am a very competent driver. I have seen other complaints bout this issue and this is a problem that Hyundai should address with at least full reimbursement of parts total because the part is defective.
Clutch was slipping at 36,000 miles, already had clutch and tranny replacement at 15,000. Lost all drivablility, hp, torque, etc. Hyundai insisted $1,000. 00 to replace clutch plate, and bearing, without looking inside engine. After a week, they said they needed $700. 00 to pull tranny to see if flywheel is bad. Buying clutch master series 1 to fix the faulty part. Don't let them replace your parts with the stock part! their clutch is terrible and a major safety issue.
I own a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt v-6 (2. 7 liter) 5 speed manual transmission automobile with 48,900 miles on odometer. While I was driving it the clutch went out and I lost power and went off the road.
I bought a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt 3 weeks ago from a dealership, medlin motors inc. , in rocky mount, nc. I started smelling a burning smell the day I bought the car and asked the dealer what it was and they told me it was probably brake rust or residue coming off from where it was sitting up for a while. So I then dismissed the problem until about 3 weeks later I smelt that smell again and soon after the clutch started slipping. I immediately called the dealership and asked them to fix it. They then picked up the vehicle and took it to their shop. I was under the impression that the warranty would cover it until the next day when we received a phone call stating that the repair bill would be $1700. 00. With this information I told them I couldn't afford to repair it since I had just put a $1400. 00 down payment on the vehicle 3 weeks prior. They still refuse to fix this problem without a payment of $1700. 00. In its simplest form, I paid $1400. 00 to drive a car for a month and now I am obligated to a $13000. 00 loan for a car I can't drive which is still 30 minutes away at the shop.
My Hyundai Tiburon 03's clutch was burned out, but I've been driving a manual for a pretty long time and before, my Toyota celica never had this problem. From what I heard, Hyundai has defective clutch parts and they won't cover this under their warranty. The parts and the labor at Hyundai would be extremely expensive. I would not want my car to have to replace the clutch every 2 years, from what I heard.
My 2003 Hyundai tibruon gt has a clutch that is slipping and there is only about 80,000 miles on my car. I have a daughter and if this clutch goes while we are in the car it could cause injuries to us both.
: the contact stated while traveling at various speeds, the transmission was hard to shift and progressively worsened. Later while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine would not respond and would not start when jumped. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was determined the clutch failed, and the clutch fly wheel needed to be replaced.
I have an 04 Tiburon gt v6 special edition and it is only at 16000 miles and the clutch is all ready going out and I will have to replace it.
The clutch on my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon has been prematurely slipping at only 65k miles. . Read more...
2004 Hyundai Tiburon clutch and transmission.
Car started to have a clutch pedal problem around 5000 miles, so I took it to the dealer and they said it was normal nothing to worry about. Then at about 10,000 miles the clutch began slipping so I took it once again to the dealer. They said "yep the clutch is pretty worn out it should be replaced but we aren't sure if it will be covered under warranty" so they told me I need to authorize the payment for the clutch repair which was $1100. Well I am a college student and working to own this car and I didn't have the money to authorize that so I pursued the consumer affairs department and after a bout a month driving the car with the slipping clutch. I got approval to have the clutch inspected at no charge by the dealer they then told me that the clutch is so worn that I looks like it was severely abused and therefore not warrantable and it even seemed as though you were racing your vehicle so we has permanently removed the warranty on this vehicle. So as of today 11/6/06 the car is still at the dealership waiting.
I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt v6 6-speed and at 61,000 miles the clutch master cylinder and flywheel have completely fallen apart. It has cost me over $2,000. 00 in damage and I was told by the mechanic the condition of the clutch and flywheel was completely out of the normal! I have also heard many other complaints of this same issue with the Hyundai Tiburon. Also, girard gibbs llp is investigating claims in connection with a pending lawsuit seeking class action status against Hyundai America, inc. Consumers complain that certain Hyundai Tiburons experience premature clutch and/or flywheel failures, resulting in the vehicle being inoperable. Consumers also complain that Hyundai does not replace the parts under warranty, resulting in tremendous cost of replacements to the consumer.
Faulty clutch. . Per warranty 10 years or 100,000 miles for drive train. . $2000. 00 clutch is not covered. Had car in previous complaining about clutch not working properly. . Note that numerous complaints have been filed per information on the internet with tiberon's having clutch problems.
Clutch failure while driving, lost ability to use 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear after moving into traffic without incident from first gear. Was able to coast to side of road.
I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt with 6-speed standard transmission and 46000 miles. I live in indianapolis, in and the car was manufactured in October of 2002. Recently I have been experiencing problems with the clutch in this car. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the failure is due to my driving habits and they have no responsibility under warranty for this problem. I have been arguing with them for about a week now because of all of the claims on the web that are exactly like what I am going through with this same car. They have given me a quote of 1356 dollars to replace the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel and said that they would pay 50% of this as "goodwill". The whole situation seems unbelievable to me. I have driven a standard transmission for several years and have never had any other car with these problems. The dealer who is servicing the car even says that the clutch should last twice as long as it has. Hyundai motor America's corporate office is who I have been arguing with about this issue and I think that they may be just offering to pay half because they know that they really should pay for the whole thing. I just don't know what to do because there is no way for me to know what is truly going on with this situation and whether hma is lying to me or not. I appreciate any help. Thank you.
With 30000 km on my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt v-6 my clutch is slipping and worn. There is a well documented problem with the clutches on these cars, and the dealers unwillingness to warranty the repair.
I purchased the vehicle with 50000 miles on it. When I first purchased the vehicle I came into contact with a community of people with the same vehicle. The community is newtiburon. Com. My vehicle is a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt v6 6 speed. There are literally hundreds of people with the same complaint as me. As soon as I received the car I still had 10000 miles of warranty. So I took the vehicle to roseville Hyundai to explain that there original clutch for my vehicle was a defective product that they had a TSB out on for replacement. I attend wyoming technical institute(which is an automotive tech school) they told me that it wasn't covered under warranty even though it is a defective part that they even have a replacement part for. I believe they were just trying to avoid the $2000 repair for them. Since I was so close to not being under warranty. I understand that a clutch is a wearable part, but when the company that produces a part and says themselves that there is a defective product on there vehicle and if any cars come in with this part it needs to be removed and replaced with the new part. The TSB number is TSB 04-40-005. The defective part number is 10/01/2001-02/24/2003. . . . 4110039140 the new part is 02/24/2003-present. . . . . . . 4110039145 now within this, if your car was manufactured before 02/01/03 you definitely have the defective part and you should get it replaced by the dealer. My car was manufactured on 01/13/03. The clutch and flywheel combo does not mate well together and causes premature clutch failure. Whereas in my car my clutch slips at anything more that 1/4 throttle.
I purchased a new 2005 Hyundai Tiburon on March 09, 2005 in cincinnati, ohio. At about 9,000 miles I noticed the car was behaving differently. By 16,000 miles even I who am not mechanical could figure out that the clutch was failing. I was amazed that this could be the case with so few miles on it, however. At this time I am living in southern California so I can safely sat that at least 2500 of those miles were accumulated on the interstate moving the car from ohio. The dealer in cathedral city, CA blamed me for the failure implying that I was not capable of driving a manual transmission. I, however, am 39 years old, have had 11 new cars since I began driving and all of them were manual transmissions. The only time I have ever needed to have a clutch assembly replaced was my previous car, a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse gt with 93,000 miles (I have that documentation). I am concerned that this is going to be a recurring issues every 10-20,000 miles at least $1000. 00 each time. This should have never failed in the first place and then it certainly should have been covered by the warranty. Hyundai agreed to pay 60% as a "good will" gesture. I have the extended warranty and I had never encountered a clutch that failed so early on. The other major issue are the tires which are michelin mxv4 plus. I have had every one replaced once and two replaced twice. They don't seem to be able to stay inflated. I purchased a protection plan after the third replacement but I am worried about one of the tires going flat late at night. This is all ridiculous for a new car.
The clutch on my 2004 Hyundai Tiburon failed at 32,000 miles. It necessitated the replacement of the clutch and flywheel, at an expense of about $2,500. 00 the clutch failed me while I was on the freeway, 1200 miles from my home.
Clutch is going out, 5 speed transmissions is also going to it would still be under warranty from when it was first bought.

I was informed a week or so ago that my clutch needed to be repaired due to "wear & tear" on a 30,000 mile Hyundai Tiburon. I was informed that the warranty would not cover it due to "wear & tear". I was informed by the repair consultant though that their facility has been open for 9 months and my car is the 3rd they have seen with low mile Tiburon's having the clutch repaired. I called a local transmission repair facility and they informed me that in December of '05 they had a Hyundai Tiburon with 11,000 miles and had to replace the clutch as well.
I purchased a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gtv6 - 6 speed in April of 2003. 20,000 miles later, thought normal wear and tear, my clutch went out. The dealer replaced my clutch and flywheel using a technical service bulletin. Now, at 48,000 miles (28,000 miles later), my clutch has failed again. I am in no way a hard driver, and am a very experienced manual transmission driver. This failure is costing me $2000 to repair, and has put me and my family in a financial strain. Clutches should not go out this quickly, and there are many others who have had the same problems with no manufacturer resolution. I hope that this message reaches far; Hyundai should address this problem immediately. I'm afraid that next time my clutch will fail on the highway and the circumstances may be a lot worse.
Two days ago I noticed a weird scraping noise coming from under my hood, and my clutch began to feel different, I could feel the scrape. The next day, at mid day thinking about taking the car to have it checked, the clutch goes to the floor and is just completely gone in an instant. I had the car towed to the shop and I have been told that the clutch and flywheel are completely gone and need new ones. I have been reading that the newer clutches and flywheel are supposed to be better and are supposed to be the ones installed in the cars, hopefully that is what happens with mine. The parts are to be replaced but all the cost is on me.
Clutch went out on vehicle after only 30,000 miles normal use. This has been a problem with alot of Tiburon's/ I had to pay to have my clutch replaced out of pocket at the Hyundai dealership, even though the car is still under warranty, due to the fact that I am stationed with the army in germany.
Took my car to dealership for the clutch slipping and grinding on two separate occasions, the grinding was stopped but the slipping was still a problem. I was told by service to "adjust the way I drive. " at 19557 miles my clutch went out completely, when I asked the service advisor what caused this he said "it looks like its been slipping for a long time. " the dealership informed me that the repairs would not be covered under warranty as the clutch parts are only under warranty for 12000 miles. My car was under 12000 miles both times the clutch was "repaired" before. Now I have a repair bill for over $2000 that I refuse to pay because they didn't fix the problem when they could have, under warranty.
