2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

September 2019, four months after we purchased it brand new. The vehicles stopped responding to my acceleration on highway speeds when all the technology screens went out in the vehicle. While at a red light the vehicles rpm's will visually go up and down and the vehicle shutters as if it is going to turn off. It has unintended acceleration when I'm sitting at a standstill and go to accelerate the vehicle will jump so to speak once the accelerator is engaged. Unfortunately my videos are too long to upload but I do have confirmation of 2 of the 3 concerns but am unable to record the highway concerns due to obvious safety reasons.

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/05/2018

I am experiencing a problem with the vehicle's acceleration from a stop which is worsening over time. I bought the vehicle new in September 2017. I routinely experience a severe lag in acceleration from a stop, causing jerky movements and sometimes unintended acceleration. I do not feel as if the vehicle is safe to drive on a daily basis. I have had the car looked at by Hyundai technicians in my local dealership's service department. They have reported that there are no issues they can identify and the car is operating as it was built to. I have expressed my concerns about the vehicle's safety and they have told me to contact Hyundai's consumer affairs department. I have initiated a ticket with consumer affairs.

5 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

The 2017 Tucson sport has the 1. 6 turbo with the dual clutch transmission. When pulling out into traffic, one never knows if the car will respond to the gas pedal and accelerate or just stumble along. This is a known problem, and there is a recall or similar for the 2016 with NHTSA. The dealership (kearny mesa Hyundai, san diego) tells us that "they all do that" when we took it in for safety concerns and repair. Any subsequent requests for repair were met with "it will cost you 150 dollars to check it out if it's the same situation as before with no solution". This car is a danger to us and others on the road. It also tends to go into some sort of leaf blower mode sometimes when you hit the brakes, where the revs soar but it doesn't act like it downshifted. This is not a mixup in brake/gas pedal usage, like the unintended acceleration problems weve all read about with other brands. The dct has a mind of it's own and is a hazard on the road. The problems are when the vehicle is in motion, and it can happen anywhere, at random, highway, freeway, pulling out of a driveway. . . Anywhere. Please help get these dangerous cars off the road. Not sure what documentation you want, but the car is under warranty, and was bought in Aug 2017. Cars with this engine/trans are still for sale in the showrooms nationwide, a known danger to all concerned. The dealership service mgr has told us how there are a lot of unhappy customers out there with 1. 6 turbo/dct drivetrains, and yet they are selling more by the day. Yet there is no support other than the one time attempt and "they all do that". Help.

6 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

Once my brand new Tucson hit 500 miles on it, it suddenly unintentionally accelerates while my foot is already pressing firmly on the break pedal. The first time, it happened as I was approaching the peak of a hill. I was going 25 mph. My foot was already pressing on the breaks, anticipating the decline, when my car jolted forward and took off. My foot slammed on the breaks even harder, however I watched my speedometer hit 40 mph while simaltaneously, my rpm decreased to 1. . . (yes, down a hill. ) for about 5-7 seconds the rpm and seppdometer would not increase or decrease once hitting 40 mph and 1 rpm. I had to lean over the wheel and slam my breaks to the floor before I regained control of the vehicle. Once this occurred, the car lagged, struggling to accelerate throughout the remainder of the drive (all flat roads). It is now day 5 of experiencing this, and it now occurs multiple times every time the vehicle is in motion, whether breaks are being applied prior, or not, regardless of the type of road I am on (flat, hill etc. ) I was exiting a parking garage that had a mediocre ramp to exit the garage. My vehicle was going 12 mph when I turned right to proceed down the ramp. My foot slowly pressed the break pedal, and my vehicle accelerated to 28 mph, and maintained that speed for 3 seconds, before responding to my breaks. Yes, my foot had the breaks pressed all the way down. Another example, yesterday I was on a flat road driving at 27 mph when it suddenly accelerated to 45 mph, and the rpm dropping suddenly from 2, to 1. After a few seconds of my foot slammed on the breaks I regained control and pulled the car over. I turned the engine off and waited about 5 minutes. When I turned it back on, and began driving (3 minutes left in my drive), the car continued to lag, lunge forward, and could not reach speeds higher than 30 mph. This car is brand new.

10 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

I purchased this vehicle in Jan 2016 and have less than 2000 miles on the vehicle. I am having dct transmission issues. Had noticed that on several occasions the vehicle is very sluggish and has some difficulty accelerating from a complete stop and at times it lurches forward. This is an intermittent and ongoing issue, but very troublesome, none the less. This occurs during normal in town traffic and especially going up hills from a complete stop. There have also been issues in traffic where it accelerates unexpectedly. I have taken the vehicle into the dealer on two occasions in a seven day period, after deciding that this is not safe to drive at times. When I made the initial appt the receptionists stated that there have been several vehicles in for this issue. The initial time at the dealer, they completed the latch recall and reset the computer to relearn the system, hoping that would be the saving grace. Driving down the road a couple of days later and the sound was so loud while driving, that I pulled over and the sound died down at bit. Made another appointment to take in the vehicle the following Monday, I was told that they were not able to recreate the issue and the service manager was not sure what was going on. It's very frustrating, because you have to take time off work to go back and forth to the dealer to hear that nothing is wrong. The dealer acts like they have never heard of the concern. I was also told that it's the design of the clutch that gives drivers the sluggish feel. I decided to come back to Hyundai to purchase a vehicle and I deeply regret that decision.

11 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2010 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

My problem with this Tucson is in regards of "sudden unintended acceleration". It sporadically, on an almost daily basis we experience "sua" followed by immediately loses power and acceleration every time it's driven. Driving on the freeway doing 70mph, it will lunge and the tachometer will race and suddenly loses power down to 35mph. Then has a lag accelerating afterwards. This is consistent through out the day since I commute a lot. Other issues, when engine on idle it feels like it's about to stall. We have taken this to the dealership 3 times and from their diagnosis, they don't see the problem. There is definitely a malfunction in the transmission and doing research I've found these issues with numerous Tucson owners. We are concerned with our safety as we now have had a couple of close calls on the freeway. We bought this vehicle for safety and now are starting to question our safety due to this issue.

12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

I own a Hyundai Tucson 2012. On December 31, 2012, we took the vehicle to the dealership for regular maintenance and reported that we have experienced several instances of sudden unintended acceleration (sua) (I. E. , the rpm raced up to 4,000 rpms when at idle and accelerator was not pressed). The dealership could not duplicate/verify concern. On November 10, 2013, again we expressed the dealership the same concern; however, we received the same response as on December 31, 2012. Throughout this year we have experienced sua several times, the most recent one last night, when while in motion the car unexpectedly accelerated its rpm. I believe this is a seriously safety concern which Hyundai should address immediately by investigating the problem and issuing a safety recall to its customers. Please advice the action we should take to have this problem solved and avoid any injuries.

13 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/28/2012

I was preparing to pull into a parking space in a parking garage when the car suddenly went into rapid acceleration. It smashed into the cement wall of the parking space and surged for a few seconds before I could get the key turned off. The sudden rapid acceleration occurred again while in idle at a stop light and my foot was not on the throttle. This occurred several months later when the mileage registered approximately 36750. This time the surging lasted several seconds after applying the brakes and putting it into park to stop the forward motion before hitting the car in front of me.
