The 2025 Hyundai Tucson's adaptive cruise control (acc) system does not operate properly due to either a design flaw or a flawed implementation of the design. Hyundai's integration of forward attention warning (faw) with the acc prohibits the driver from using acc while wearing sunglasses. If one is driving the vehicle with acc engaged and puts on sunglasses, the faw flashes a warning on the dashboard and disengages the acc. In order to engage cruise control the driver must interact with the onboard video display system to switch from acc to "dumb cruise". Obviously the driver's attention is distracted while manipulating the selection of cruise control. The driver is also forced to compromise driving safety because they are forced to choose between wearing sunglasses and being able to use acc. Use of acc enhances safety especially when driving into the sun or in low visibility situations. The incompatibility of acc with sunglasses wear then compromises safety. To make matters worse the faw options screen provides erroneous information. It indicates that the driver can turn off faw, but turning it off does not in fact turn it off. Turning it off stops the faw warnings only until the driver turns on and engages acc at which time acc apparently forces faw back on and active. I took the problem to my local Hyundai dealer who confirmed the problem and indicated they could not repair the problem. Since I am considering a georgia lemon law claim, I asked whether I needed to bring the car back since the lemon law gives the dealer/manufacturer 3 tries to fix the problem. The dealer indicated that would be a waste of time because Hyundai will not support/allow the issue to be corrected. The dealer indicated this is a known issue. An internet search also confirms that Hyundai's faw + acc integration is flawed. Additionally it is not clear whether other enhanced vehicle safety systems such as automatic emergency braking are compromised by the wearing of sunglasses?.
When accelerating, like taking off from a red light or through a turn, my car begins to shake like it’s unable to change gears correctly, and sometimes leads to the car stalling in the middle of the street and intersection putting my in danger of being hit from other drivers. It’s also happened that when I press the gas after being stopped at a light, my car rpm goes up but I don’t move and then the car jolts forward quickly. This has been happening for years and when I take it to Hyundai they tell me “that’s just how the car runs” which seems incredibly unsafe.

Forward radar sensor pass side lower grill/bumper area. 1st told a sensor recall but after 3 hrs and then seeing the vehicle in the shop with the entire front bumper clip removed the sensor was out of its driver side socket and 1 side flopping around which may have caused a small dimple from the inside to pop out on the 6x5 cover that is the entire lower rubber/plastic black bumper/grill. Told the vehicle was hit, yet no visible damage to bumpers or painted surface can be found by their 2 dealerships and their 1 body shop, + 2 mangers, and 1 independent collision shop. 1 manager drove the vehicle 10/11 and stated after "is operating as it should". Warnings have come on again since then refueling at additional 77 mile and then at 92 miles 10/14. Hartford ins has been notified and pending I hope an inspection. Vehicle purchased 1st March 2024, 1st warning at 5336mies currently at 5421 miles. They triggered the service engine light and stated via onboard computer it was an issue with a lower front driver side radiator something that may have been bumped while taking off the front clip, which they chipped and area and left a bit of gap at the fender connection. Other than the small dimple on the plastic from what I believe the sensor had been bouncing against, there is no damage. A safelight windshield company stated there is a notice/recall on the "auto headlight sensor on dash" but they do not cal them, only the optic sensor top center of windshield. But per the manual that top sensor plus lower radar can control the forward crash, cruise setup and auto braking. Need some help since my firm works with all auto/tire mfg and conducts dot tire testing for USA and worldwide independent firms/gov's.

It happened again. While traveling at highway speeds behind a slow poke, 2 cars passed me on either side at nearly the same time. This caused the auto braking system to activate, abruptly slowing my car for now reason. Luckily no one was tailgating me at the time. This is the 4th time the car has braked for no good reason on the highway (see previous reports) and the 2nd time when 2 cars passed on either side at the same time. This is clearly a software bug that needs to be fixed!.
While driving n on hwy 75 in dallas, I was traveling at posted speed- 70- in the 2nd of 4 lanes when I was passed on either side by cars 10-15 mph faster than me. They passed almost exactly at the same time. This confused the cars auto breaking feature. The lane ahead was clear for over 100 yrds. My car braked hard and beeped a warning. There was no reason for the car to do this. This is the 3rd time the car has braked on the hwy when it was not necessary. Previously, I assumed road trip bugs on the censor caused the issue, that could not have been the cause this time. This is also a concern because the spyware in the car is sold to insurance companies apparently, as bad driving behavior which may affect my rates.
Attempted to make right turn onto busy road. Tried to accelerate to move with the traffic, when the car would not go any faster then 20mph. Could hear cars braking behind me. Pulled over to the side. Message appeared on speedometer, " limit 20mph" with green speedometer. Shut the car off tried to find problem in the manual. Didnt find anything. Turned car back on, it ran normal. Took it to Hyundai, fort myers, appointment, on 08/28/24. They diagnosed it as : "driver assist speed setting was turned on inside settings. Turned off setting, performed a dtc code scanning with no dtcs in any system. Attached stui photos, performed a 2 mile test drive with no further issues". I can only hope that the problem is solved. I do not recall turning on anything like, and wouldn't know how to, but I guess it is possible. Wanted to notify the NHTSA, in case there are other owners experiencing the same issue. Thank you for concern.

On August 1st I was on the highway at 55 mph when my 2022 Hyundai Tucson decelerated to 20 mph and would not go faster. This occurred on the highway at 5:45 pm. This placed myself and others in danger as I was on the highway in the center lane at the time of the deceleration. After turning the car in, the dealership returned the car with no repairs but stating that I engaged a button that caused a limit to the car's speed. I didn't understand but took their word. I drove it from the dealership to the store and home. The very next morning while taking my grandson to school at 5:15 am the car decelerated from 45 to 20 mph with my grandson inside the car. This placed myself and a family member in danger along with cars around me. Each time I had to drive to the dealership in unsafe conditions. They stated that I was not engaging the brake enough to charge the battery. I do not know of any documentation stating the number of times the brake must be engaged per drive. I have never heard of such engineering that allows a car to only go 20 mph and create a hazard for the occupants unknowingly. The dealership has stated that refuse to fix the problem but I should engage the brakes more often when I drive. The car has spent several months in their care due to continued repairs over the time that I've had it and is currently their because of the engine light being on.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was hesitating during acceleration. While accelerating, the vehicle failed to exceed 3,000 rpm. Thee contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 25 mph independently while depressing the accelerator pedal. The automatic start button remained illuminated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 8,800.
While slowly pulling into a parking space at a local shopping center, my 2024 Hyundai Tucson limited suddenly accelerated while I still had my foot on the brakes to stop. The acceleration was so sudden and intense that I had to swerve to avoid a head on collision with a car parked in front of me. It took me a few seconds to gain control of the car, as the engine was revving at a high acceleration rate and the brakes were not working as they should. Just as suddenly as it happened, it then stopped and I was able to regain control of the car. Had there been other cars in the parking slots nearby, there would have been no to way to avoid a collision.
When driving this car it is hard to go to higher speed. Acceleration is a huge problem. Coming on to the highway I have to wait until there's no one approaching due to the fact that it takes about 40 seconds to a minute for the car to accelerate once it comes to a stop. When switching lanes it takes 40 to 60 seconds to accelerate as well. That's not safe. God forbid someone was speeding directly behind me I would absolutely be hit. It takes to long to accelerate and get out of the way. I was nearly hit by a semi truck due to this problem. Thank goodness the truck moved to the other lane because the tuscon couldn't! also the car won't allow you to close off the outside air while if the front or rear air function. So if I want to place air on the windshield I have to breathe in the air from the person in front tailpipe. That's crazy. This is the first car I've had that did this. It's disgusting especially living in NY why should I have to breathe in that toxin. Also I can not find the third seat belt for the passengers in the back. The car is suppose to be a five passenger car however only four can safely be seated.

When I need to car to accelerate, sometimes it will, and other times I have to push on the gas pedal all the way to try to accelerate. This is extremely dangerous when pulling out in traffic as I am never sure when the car will be working correctly the car shows no codes that there is something wrong, the mechanics cannot figure out what is causing the lack of acceleration. I can be at a red light and try to accelerate and I would have to push the gas all the way down to even get it going. This is an inter written problem, but very concerning when I am trying to cross traffic as I am never sure what my acceleration is going to be.
Oil consumption is excessive it has caused the engine to have a knocking noise even though routine oil changes have been up to date. Yes available for inspection. This may cause the engine to seize at any given point while in motion. No, I have not been able to take the vehicle to a dealership yet. No, vehicle has not been inspected. No, no check engine/warning light has turned on. Knocking noise began June 28th 2024.
On [xxx] around [xxx] pm two barnes county sheriff’s deputies responded to a reckless driving complaint. The reckless driving complaint started on [xxx] and later crashed around [xxx] near [xxx]. Barnes county sheriff randy mcclaflin said the reporting person, a [xxx] female, was also the driver of the reckless vehicle, a 2023 white Hyundai Tucson. Of fargo contacted the barnes county dispatch center and reported her gas pedal was stuck and the vehicle she was driving was traveling at speeds of over 90 miles per hour. Made multiple attempts to shut the vehicle off, place it in neutral/park and brake however, those attempts failed. One barnes county sheriff’s deputy was able to position his patrol vehicle in front of vehicle while the other barnes county sheriff’s deputy was able to position her patrol vehicle behind both deputies communicated with through a barnes county dispatcher while they attempted to disable vehicle. At one-point was able to slow her vehicle enough that she decided she could enter the median and use the cable barriers to stop the runaway vehicle before it struck a slow-moving vehicle ahead of the lead deputy. Entered the median and struck the cable barrier with the side of her vehicle. The vehicle became disabled. Was uninjured and was taken to mercy hospital by sheriff’s deputies. The north dakota highway patrol will be investigating the crash. Sheriff mcclaflin said kept as calm as can be expected and due to her quick thinking, she was able to avoid causing any injuries to others on the roadway. Sheriff mcclaflin would also like to remind everyone to please watch for emergency lighting while traveling on roadways information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and failed to accelerate while the accelerator pedal was depressed. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the a/c was blowing warm air. The contact lives in a hot climate and was concerned for the safety of her 2 minor children. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, three a/c compressors were used to attempt to repair the vehicle at a service center however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed at the owner’s expense due to the warranty being invalid. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v543000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
’ve replaced the catalytic converter two times , the check engine light is on so it says I need another catalytic converter, that was in June 2024. The car was at the shop yesterday, needs catalytic converter and oil is pooling all throughout the car , fumes from the exhaust are coming back into the car which makes me physically ill. The engine revs and slows down by itself, it goes through oil on such a regular basis that I have to carry a full size jug of oil with me at all times because I need to put it in before I leave work and when I am on my way back home , the dipstick will be dry.

My Tucson is applying automatic emergency break without a reason. It happened to me 3 times in a week with my Tucson hybrid 2024 nline, it was scary and I was on freeway at 70+mph and couldn't capture the warning as it popped out for only 3 sec. I see no cars around when this happened and when I checked few forums I see this as a common problem in Hyundai vehicles in recent times and feeling scared. I was lucky enough last week as there is not vehicle behind me when breaks applied automatically.
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at a stop light, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The failure occurred on several occasions and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. After retrieving the vehicle, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 331.
On 05/11/2024, I accelerated onto the freeway at which point my vehicle would no longer go past 50 mph with the pedal to the floor. I had my two small children in the car at the time. It was dangerous as cars around us were going 65+ mph. The check engine light started blinking when this was occurring. Prior to that the check engine light had been on because the dealership claimed they didn’t know why it was triggering and that they have to take my engine out and replace it just to explore the issue. I don’t have the money for that. It has a knocking sound, a pungent fuel smell and it still won’t accelerate. I only have 85k miles on the car.
The car did not accelerate after pressing gas pedal all way down. Encountered this while idling and trying to accelerate from a steady speed as well.
My car has been having engine problems causing it to stall while driving. It won’t go past 20miles per hour even if I press on the gas fully. This has been happening on and off for a couple of months now. It also burns thru my oil change in less than a week. I took my Hyundai into the dealer multiple times because of the way it drove since 2019 and they always sent me away saying that it was normal. But this car has been a constant stress in my life. Driving it has felt dangerous. Something is definitely wrong with it and I’m not sure why this recall on the engine now powering up hasn’t hit yet. Death trap of a car.
After stopped at a red light, the light turned green and the car slipped into neutral when stepping on the gas pedal. The gear was not shifted and the controls still displayed “d” both on the dashboard and the gear selector. This happened twice 5 days apart from each other. This car has an automatic transmission and the automatic engine shut off was on.
The Hyundai I just purchased was packaged with both carpeted and rubber mats. Both were priced and charged separately on the Hyundai window sticker. The car cannot be bought without paying for both. It is well known that driving with rubber mats over carpet mats creates a serious safety hazard that will can lead to the mat slipping and the driver losing control over speed and braking. I contacted Hyundai to warn of the safety issue and request a refund for one of the mat types. They basically told me to get lost. I think a safety violation should be issued against Hyundai. I fear someone will get killed because they use both mats in the car since they paid for both.
Van Hyundai dealership in carrollton, TX has confirmed excessive oil consumption causing catalytic converter failure that results in the engine stalling and unable to accelerate. We’ve already replaced the catalytic converter once in 2024 because it was full of oil and causing engine failure. Less than a year later (less than 10,500 miles) the same problem was reproduced. The dealership refuses to replace our engine due to the engine defect. This problem directly impacts the engines ability to perform, unable to accelerate on the interstate, and engine stalling which directly impacts our safety and puts our family into a life threatening situation when the engine fails on the highway. The engine has a defect that Hyundai refuses to address. There are no warnings or engine lights that appear beforehand which is extremely concerning and a liability. Hyundai motor company is corrupt.
When pulling out of my driveway onto street, I lost acceleration. My vehicle would not go oer 35 mph and the rpms were revving up too 5000 without speed moving. I tried changing the drive mode to fix it, that did not help. I pulled over,s topped the car and restarted and all seemed normal. This has happened 2 other times since I bought the car. The other 2 times was while I was on the interstate the engine stopped engaging and I could not accelerate. Both times the issue corrected itself by the time I could get safely out of traffic. This is a major accident concern as there is no warning before this happens.
Our 2023 Hyundai Tucson hybrid developed an issue with the forward radar. At speed, the car produces a warning ding and then a warning message is displayed stating, "critical forward safety functions are limited. Radar blocked. " if the adaptive cruise control is engaged at the time of the warning, it immediately disengages, forcing the driver to quickly respond. If there is a vehicle in the adjacent lane to the right, the automatic braking may at times activate. It happens rain or shine, in good or inclement weather. We have cleaned the areas of the sensors without effect. One dealership has evaluated the vehicle twice and a second dealership once but we have been informed that there was no defect identified. I believe this issue to be a serious safety defect.
I have a Hyundai tuscon 2019, which was pre-certified by Hyundai. This particular car was part of a lawsuit because of a knock sensor issue. The lawsuit information is here: https://hma-e2. Autosolutionteam. Com/production/hyundai_e2_portal. Nsf/home. Xsp the knock sensor failing is not really what causes the safety issue. The engine symptoms when the sensor fails is the issue. The engine goes into "safety mode" which limits the car to a significant slower speed. The problem is that Hyundai has now tried to fix this issue twice on my vehicle, and the knock sensor continues to fail. To be clear, they've replaced the sensor twice. Based on the lawsuit, the court mandated them to fix the knock sensor. They have done that free of charge, but the sensor continues to fail. To me this sounds like a manufacture issue. It is incredibly dangerous when you're on a highway and the sensor fails. It happened to me, and it was almost catastrophic. The car slowed down and there is nothing you can do about it. I noticed there was something wrong very quickly and put my hazards on. If I didn't, I may not be writing you here. You could easily get into a significant accident, and from that could lead to injury or loss of life. I am asking for a review of this. I have my service records as well as recorded conversations with Hyundai corporate regarding this issue. Service records are attached. I live very close to NHTSA hq and willing to come in if necessary. To me, this is concerning enough for that. .
We experienced engine failure of a 2013 Hyundai Tucson on 2/20/24. There were no warning lights displayed on the instrument panel. There was an unidentified noise and a loss of power/compression. We are in the process of learning the difference between a service campaign and a recall notification and I can’t say we understand it yet. We were not notified nor aware of potential engine failure issues. The research we’ve been able to obtain regarding service campaign 966 (“sc966”) appears to exclude the 2013 Tucson model unless it has a theta ii engine. The service department at dick smith Hyundai stated that if we would have had our car serviced at the dealership, we would have been informed of sc966. As we are the second owner of an eleven-year-old vehicle, we do not typically have it serviced at a dealership. Oddly enough, we received a notification regarding the knock sensor on 3/18/24 almost one month after we contacted Hyundai customer support and after the vehicle was towed to dick smith dealership and we spoke with the service department. We have been informed by the local dealership (dick smith Hyundai service department) that it is unlikely that the engine will be replaced under the Hyundai class action lawsuit, or any open recalls and it will be 2-4 months before a decision is rendered regarding the matter. We are also being charged a diagnostic fee for their services of approximately $200. 00. Regardless of the recall coverage, our experience with this vehicle engine seems to mimic the exact same symptoms and issues as the make/models that are included in the published recall notice by kia/Hyundai, and we would like to make this known to protect other consumers and to see if there is any recourse and/or assistance for us.

Almost got killed!!! this car is dangerous!!! I feel lucky I can still write to you. Hyundai 2019 Tucson (tl) 2. 0l has been plagued by a recall and related known defects that create dangerous and life-threatening situations on the highways 3 times in 10 months for us!!! vehicle year, make & model: Hyundai 2019 Tucson (tl) 2. 0l car approximate mileage: current ~37,000 how many repairs visits to the dealer? total 4 (first time was Hyundai recall, 3 times check engineer light flash on interstate highway and the car went to limp mode and reduced speed drastically) a short description of the problem: car has been plagued by a recall and related known defects that create dangerous and life-threatening situations on highway. 1). Recall on December 15th, 2022 (with only 19395 miles on it); 2). April 11, 2023. The car only had 22036 miles on it, on highway 101 near san francisco; 3). November 7, 2023 while driving on I-5 north of portland; 4). February 12, 2024 during the afternoon pre rush hour traffic before 3:00 pm on highway or-217 near tigard (currently undergoing road construction with no shoulder, and many cars driving at high speed) almost hit by a car behind me.
The forward collision avoidance system made me have accident. I was driving on the expressway, the forward collision made the car stop abruptly, then accelerate. As I was veering to the right, the car stopped again in the middle of the expressway causing me to have an accident. This is unacceptable and very unsafe. This vehicle is not safe to drive with the collision warnings.
The engine appears to have a malfunction, particularly related to acceleration and oil consumption. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle experiences sudden jerking during acceleration, which can lead to loss of control and increase the risk of a collision. Additionally, stalling can occur unexpectedly, posing a significant hazard, especially in traffic. Yes, the issue has been confirmed by a local dealership, where they noted the jerking during acceleration and the high oil consumption. Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, but it has not been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the incidents. The symptoms first appeared approximately 8 months ago and is ongoing.
Engine check light came on on 1/4/24 took it to dealership they ran a quick check and they said it had multiple misfires. The car has a lot of carbon buildup and they recommend a 24 hour cleaning which will cost me over $700. 00. The car stalls and starts shaking as I speed up. I don't feel that a care with less than 70,000 miles should have this problem. Mine also has now been using up the oil very quickly.
I was at a stop light, when I went to accelerate, the car would not move past 20 mph. I pressed down on the pedal, and the gauge did not go past 20 mph. After a few seconds, the car started to accurate, but it happened again at a second stop light a few minutes later.
The car does not accelerate from a stopped position and when driving it does not shift or allow acceleration. This is especially an issue on hills or when trying to increase speed on the highway.
