36 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

We purchased this car new. It has been to the dealer 5 times or more for the repair of an engine oil leak that saturates the alternator resulting in its failure. They have resealed the engine oil pan the first time. Second, third, forth, and fifth time they replaced the front engine valve cover gasket. The last time they followed the recommended procedure as outlined by Hyundai that was mandated by ntsb as a recall. However the oil leak still remains. Upon our last visit in November 2018 the Hyundai service shop determined that the oil leak is from the front engine cover (timing cover). They submitted a request to Hyundai corporate to make the repair under warranty. Corporate advised that the repair should have been made under the vehicles warranty period. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty they have no obligation to pay for the repairs. Plus because it is not related to the valve cover and that repair has already been performed, they have meat their obligations. My complaint is that part of the mandated ntsb repair does involve a portion of the engine cover, but apparently applying a layer of sealant across the seam of the cover does not resolve the issue. Therefore this is still a safety hazard and we are looking at replacing a 3rd alternator.

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Vehicle lost all power while driving in subdivision was unable to turn steering wheel. Took to repair shop advised the alternator needed to be replaced. Paid to have replaced. Noticed a recall on the Veracruz that was never addressed. On the NHTSA website the recall stated alternator and gasket would be affected but Hyundai is stating it is only for the oil and gasket not alternator.

39 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

The 2012 Veracruz was purchased in August 2015, from waldorf Hyundai, waldorf maryland. December of 2015, the dealership replaced the battery under warranty. 2016, the alternator failed and was replaced under warranty. 2017 the spark plugs failed and was replaced at my expense. 2018 the valve cover gasket failed and the dealership (waldorf Hyundai) refuse to cover the repair cost. Under protest and a complaint filed with Hyundai corporate July 2018, the gasket was repaired. January 2019, the spark plugs failed and the dealership refused to cover the repair. Second complaint filed with Hyundai corporate, and currently we are disputing if Hyundai should cover the repair cost. Upon purchasing this vehicle, the dealership never disclosed the 2014 recall for this vehicle's electrical system failure. The gasket has failed at least twice since I have owned the vehicle and the alternator, spark plugs, and battery have been replaced. The vehicle has stalled on the highway each time having to be towed to waldorf, Hyundai. The vehicle is a safety hazard due to sudden loss of power on multiple occasions, and has proven to be unreliable. Hyundai does not have a solution to the recall ( 14v415000) in 2014, and the vehicle should have never been sold. The vehicle service records are available at the dealership.

40 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2010 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/25/2018

Our Hyundai Veracruz got all of sudden stopped while on the road. It did not move and all the traffic got backed up luckily there was no heavy vehicle except for too many cars. Few nice people really helped us to some how move the car and at least get out of busy road so that traffic can get through. Then the car got towed to the authorized Hyundai service dealer and they told us that the alternator is having the problem and need to be changed. We did some online search and found out that the in 2015 Hyundai did had a recall for the valve cover gasket and if required they would also change the alternator. I am not sure if our dealer changed the alternator at the time when recalled item was getting fixed and even if dealer have changed - its based on my limited auto knowledge that alternator last at least 50,000 to 80,000 miles. Hence we would like to bring it to the notice of NHTSA. The main reason is the concern for safety as when this happen both the kids were in the car which scared us the most. We hope the authority look into the matter and provides some updates to us about this particular issue as we have not got proper reply while contact Hyundai motors USA corporate office.

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

Nhtsa campaign #14v415000 was issues for recall of faulty valve cover gasket that can leak and short out alternator, causing loss of power while driving. Our Veracruz has now had this valve cover replaced three times since this recall was issued, twice now in the last year. This time, 4/2018, the alternator was shorted out and caused loss of power while vehicle was is motion on city street. Hyundai has repaired faulty parts again, however, they have yet to have a valid fix for the problem. The repairs have only been a bandaid, as same problem keeps occurring. I believe there should be an additional recall issued till Hyundai comes up with valid fix for the dangerous problem.

42 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 01/29/2018

Wanted to purchase 2011 Hyundai Veracruz from barnes crossing dealership in starkville/new albany, ms. Took it in for car inspection as I suspected this vehicle should have been on recall list for oil leaking onto the alternator from gasket, as in recall #121. Indeed, that problem was found even though there was no recall affecting its VIN. Another recall needed for all Hyundai Veracruz vehicles!.

43 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

45 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Around sept. 2017, while in motion on city street. Vehicle's 2 warning lights turned on, 1st was check engine, then not long after that oil warning lights. Luckily I wasn't to far from home that the vehicle didn't stop running and made it home. So when I got home I told my husband about it. Before checking engine compartment he noticed oil dripping and coolant dripping under the car down to the ground. And it was a lot of spillage that it empty both oil and coolant from car. He opened hood engine compartment to check the level of oil and find's it was low of oil. At the same time he noticed oil leakage coming from the valve cover section, leaking down to alternator and covered with oil. After that he visually checked the radiator and there was no coolant, it was empty. So since then I never ran the car or was out of service. I was too busy back then and no money to get it fix. Luckily I have another car to get around with. So just recently, a friend mentioned to go online and checked to see if any recall for this vehicle's problem or make a complain. Hopefully it's a manufacture's problem and will like a respond, so I can get this car rolling again.

46 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

Oil is dripping from the valve cover gasket on to the alternator which will cause the car to shut down on the road. My truck is just like my sons 2010. His truck has been recalled why not mine. We have the same truck just a different year.

47 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

The fix for recall NHTSA campaign number: 14v415000 failed in less than two years. The head gasket leak apparently returned and created an alternator failure that led to a loss of power and acceleration on the highway and eventual stall out. The vehicle was repaired, but I incurred costs associated with a new battery and the deductible on my service contract. The resolution of the recall needs to be investigated for failure.

48 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 04/27/2017

While I started to cross a busy hwy my Veracruz did not respond and would not go faster than 20 mph. All my dashbord lights came on and off several times then the car would not go more than 5 mph. I was able to make it to the Hyundai dealership where the car would not go on park even after trying the overide swithch. Eventually the car started shaking and it shut off. Once they were able to diagnose the problem they had to replace the alternator and a new battery (battery was a year old but had to be replaced due to the alternator malfuction killed the battery). All this cost about600. 00. The mechanic said the notice about the alternator not working correctly is the battery light should've come on wich that never happend. It's a safety hazard for the alternator just to go off like that in a busy hwy it almost caused an accident. Ialso asked if it had anything to do with the recall about oil leaking in to alternator and they said no. I get my car back and now it sounds like there's a faulty contact in the signal light stlak wich sounds very scary about to explode/cause an electrical fire.

49 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 02/14/2017

Oil leaking from gaskets on to alternator.

50 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 02/11/2017

On at least a dozen occasions within the past few months alone, while driving I will suddenly hear a high-pitched "whirring" sound that sounds like it's revving up, then immediately afterwards all of my dash lights and the passenger air bag lights start to flicker and/or go off completely and then come back on again. Every single time this happens, as soon as I turn off my car (doesn't matter if I keep driving for a long while or stop driving shortly after it happens), it won't start again. It's completely dead and I have to have it jumped. My car has 94,000 miles on it, and in the past 8 years, the car has died/I've had to have it jumped over 30 times. I'm on my 5th battery! after the recall for the alternator gasket valve cap, I thought these problems would be fixed, but I've had exactly the same electrical issues/battery constantly dying since then! that recall literally did nothing. This is very unsafe, as the car can just suddenly lose power while driving, and then if you turn the car off, it won't start up again without being jumped. Hyundai needs to fix this ASAP. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this, and it's just absolutely unacceptable!! I'll in the past 8 years, I have had to replace my battery 5 times in my Veracruz.

51 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

While driving I noticed the battery light going on. I parked it for the night and began to drive it the next day. After driving for a few minutes, I noticed the battery light going on again. The radio began to turn off and on, and many different lights on the dash began to flash. I decided to return home to prevent getting stranded. As I turned around, I noticed that I began to lose power in the vehicle although I was trying to accelerate. I made it home and parked the car. I tried to start it later and the battery was now dead even thought the battery is less than a year old. I decided to do some research online and noticed others having similar issues in regards to this and having an oil leak. This reminded me that when I had an oil change recently, I was told of an oil leak hitting the alternator. I have researched my VIN only to find no recalls for it although I am experiencing similar symptoms of recall 121 for Hyundai. This is a very dangerous issue, because I was losing power as I was driving on the streets trying to get home. Some streets were small residential and some were larger streets.

55 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

I took the vehicle in for safety warranty work. Car city Hyundai in st joseph missouri completed the national recall for oil leaking on to the alternator . After driving the car for approx 30 miles the dash lights up like a christmas tree. I have spoke to joe 631613 for Hyundai he is not a part of Hyundai corp. He is a csr for some call center. They are stating the electrical problems have nothing to do with the changes the did on my car and that it is a sensor that has magically went out after the recall work. Joe instructed me to contact the address below for any other concerns. 20850 fountain valley CA 92728.

56 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

I am the owner of a 2008 Hyundai vera cruz. In 2014 my oil gasket leaked and I brought the car to a local garage and had it repaired. It cost $400. 00. A few months later, I had a problem due to a power failure and I went to another garage nearby, and discovered my alternator failed and needed to be replaced. It cost me another $400. 00. A few months later, I received otice from Hyundai stating that they discovered a fault in the oil gasket which could leak into the alternator and cause it to fail. I contacted Hyundai and explained what had happened. They assured me, just as it says in the recall notice, that if I had the work done already, I would be reimbursed, but they first wanted me to bring the car to a Hyundai service center, which I did. They checked the repairs and decided to re-do the gasket replacement, although they had no explanation as to why. They did not re-do the alternator so I assume they deemed it okay. Now, I have been going back and forth with them supplying copies of the repairs that I had done, and the repair orders, and the credit card receipts, some of which, strangely, kept getting lost even though I sent them as email attachments (after scanning them to digitize the copies). I was told some of the copies arrived, but others did not even though they all went with the same email. In any case, it has been a few months and now they finally said they would like to reimburse me for the repairs but have determined (again, with no explanation) that I should only receive $195. 00. I have asked for an explanation and they simply state they want to pay me a lesser amount for the parts that were provided in the repairs and less for the labor. I must admit, I am a bit dumbfounded. I may be a disabled veteran but there is nothing wrong with my math. Can you please help me?.

59 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

Sufficient amount of oil leaking onto alternator from front cylinder bank valve cover gasket- coating alternator, not allowing the car to start or charge when jumped. Car battery has been replaced twice and serviced at a local repair shop. Local repair shop has documented and noted that there is significant damage occurning from front cylinder bank valvue cover, which is dripping and coating the alternator. Inquired help from Hyundai customer care center and was instructed to bring car into a dealer for further inspection. Unfortunaltly the car has not been able to start and this would require a towing service to tow my vehicle to the closet Hyundai service and dealership, which is over fourty five minutes from my current location. All expenses have to be payed out of pocket from the vehical operative (this includes: towing and all repairs). Hyundai has issued an important safety recall (interim notice)- they were unable to help address towing my broken down vehicle and getting any resolution into fixing the problem addressed in recall letter. I am a concerned customer that reached out to the Hyundai customer care center for assistance. I identify my needs and concerns, as I require my vehicle to comute to and from work and transport children to school. It is very disheartining to learn that after I addressing the safety and well-being of those transported in my car, that I was not even considered a canidate for any type of loaner vehicle until this problem is resolved. As stated in my important safety recall (interim letter):" the vehicle will run on battery power until the battery voltage drops below the engine. . . If this occurs, the engine will shut off and will not restart, increasing the risk of crash. " - Hyundai is not providing me with a safe alternative.

64 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 01/19/2014

Following email sent to Hyundai dear sir: I have a 2011 vercruz with 27499 miles that I have loved until January 19, 2014. While traveling at 50mph, the car suffered catastrophic loss of all electrical power: no power straining, no power brakes, no engine power. It could not be restarted. By researching the net, I have learned that this problem has been described many times before. An oil gasket leaks that drips oil on the alternator producing loss of all electrical power and a dead engine. My dealer, l------n Hyundai, did the repair work, only charging me for the depleted battery. Nor were tow charges reimbursed. They concluded that oil had leaked from the gasket, destroying the alternator. I regard this has a serious safety issue. If the problem recurs for me, or for others; serious injury or loss of life could result. I request that you issue a national recall and permanent fix for this problem. I will be contacting the national highway traffic safety administration. ------ ---------.

66 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

My wife started the car and the check engine light and key light came on. She shut the car off and put the key fob in the ignition and the car would not start. Click, click, click is what she got. When I came home from work I started the car after jumping it off from my truck. The car ran but the check engine light was on. I started to drive it to an auto parts store to get the diagnostic code but before I could get very far the instrument panel lit up with several warning lights. Turned the car around and drove home. Fortunately, the car has less than 60k miles and less than 5 yrs old. (58,200 miles and 4 years 8 months old) had car towed to dealership. Due to some simple research I was not a bit surprised when informed that the alternator was bad due to a headcover gasket leaking engine oil. Dealer fixed all at no charge because still under warranty. Was told that it will cost me around $550. 00 after the warranty expires. This is the second electrical issue in 4 months. This car is currently for sale.

67 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

I was stopped in a traffic problem caused by an accident in front of me. Our vehicle lost all power and we became part of the traffic problem. My wife and I had to push this 4600 pound monster off the road and called a tow truck. I am 81 and my wife is 79 years old. She injured her back during this event. This will be the third alternator installed in this vehicle. Including the original, that makes four alternators in 40,000 miles.

68 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

Battery warning light came on, followed by every other warning light on the dash, one by one (abs, air bag, check-engine, etc. ) drove car to a safe place and turned it off--and then it would not start again. Had car towed to dealer who diagnosed a failed alternator--and this is the fourth time on this car which has less that 60k miles on it. My parents also own a Veracruz and are on their third alternator. This is a known problem with Hyundai yet they will not engineer a good solution and fix it once and for all. This is the fourth time we have been stuck at the side of the road and had to be towed. This is not acceptable. Someone needs to step in and require that Hyundai recall these cars and find a solution that works for more than a few thousand miles.

69 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

While exiting the ramp off of I-95 north in ashland, virginia at about 50 mph, suddenly a couple of dash lights lit up, there was a loud squeal, and I lost power steering. I almost lost control of the vehicle and almost ran off the ramp before bringing the vehicle to a stop. When I took the vehicle in to get it checked, it was determined that a valve cover gasket oil leak (that I had fixed months earlier, along with replacing the alternator it shorted out), had leaked onto both the alternator (shorting it out again), as well as onto the serpentine belt causing the belt to slip in wet weather (the road was wet from rain and water splashed up onto the oily belt), which caused the loss of power steering. It was a very scary, dangerous situation. I have now gone through 3 alternators and two valve cover gasket replacements on this vehicle since the fall of 2011. This model has a serious, dangerous defect and there needs to be a safety recall.

70 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

This vehicle suffers from design/manufacture defect. The valve cover gasket is defective. It leaks oil which fouls the alternator resulting in catastrophic loss of electrical systems including transmission function and steering control. All this occured during ordinary driving resulting in near collision and total loss of power requiring emergency towing services. My service employee was well aware of this malfunction previously reported by other owners. He knew exactly what the problem was as soon as I described these events. I now have far less confidence in the reliability of this vehicle!.
