1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 08/05/2025

This is referring to NHTSA recall 20v705000 a/k/a Hyundai TSB: 21-01047h-2 whereas my 2008 Hyundai Veracruz was brought into a Hyundai dealership regarding the above mentioned safety recall. Dealer refused to remedy the recall without first purchasing an otherwise irrelevant part to the remedy. The TSB clearly states all parts and labor necessary to honoring the safety recall would be granted to the consumer. This refusal to honor a recall poses a safety hazard as this vehicle is my sole form of transportation.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/22/2025

This is related to a repeat failure of recalls 121/197 of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz. Oil leaks down from the top valve gasket onto the alternator causing a random and erratic electrical disturbance and failure that can happen at any time causing serious risk of safety. With the alternator being damaged in this form also put other potential electrical systems at risk of damage. This is either the 3rd or 4th time of repeat failure. Previous time has damaged the battery. Luckily this time it went out in a parking lot just before was going to drive and had complete loss of power. Vehicle had to be towed into dealer service center. Upon inspection the alternator and valve cover gasket had to be replaced out of pocket as service center claims these are not covered. Tried to escalate the issue to Hyundai motor corporation to be reimbursed and was given a case manager. After a couple days I was told the original 121 recall is to old and not covered under warranty anymore and repairs were already made. I explained that recall 197 is a continuation of the previous 121 and she had to check back with the service center. A couple days later she reports back that they still will not cover the costs as the repairs have already been done before in the past. This time when received vehicle back from service center turns out the steering wheel tilt and telescoping module no longer functions. Costs of alternator $1832. 99 costs of valve cover gasket $313. 31 totaling $2146. 30 that is suppose to be covered due to the recalls. Not repaired because of hassle between service center and Hyundai motorcorp refusal to reimburse anything is the steering wheel tilt/telescoping module quoted at $1096. 06 included photo is taken of the alternator prior to being towed and clearly shows the over time build up of dripping oil all over it.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

The vehicle was supposed to be fixed(recall 197) regarding the oil in the alternator issue. After it was fixed my wife was driving on [xxx] at rush hour in atlanta GA. It slowly was losing power and she called me about it. I told her to get over to the right and take the next exit. It did stop on the exit ramp in the dark but no electric what so ever. The lights and flashers were inoperative. She called the police and they pulled behind the car with their lights flashing. A tow truck brought it to the hyundia dealer at night and put the keys in the drop box. The dealer replaced the faulty alternator but did not cover the bill because they could not find oil on the alternator! about $1500 later I took the car home. This was November 2024 last week [xxx], the replaced alternator failed again. This was supposed to be fixed by the dealer in November, but somehow this fix is not working. We now have 2 failures within a year of the alternator supposedly fixed(recall 197) with a "drip pan"? I am reluctant to take it back to this dealer as they have failed twice to fix the problem. Another dealer is far away and the charged up car may not make it that far. You need to tell me why this alternator is still failing and sticking me with the bill when you have supposedly had a fix for the problem. Please advise me on the solution. 6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 11/05/2024

I was driving home from work after picking my [xxx] daughter up from school. The car started making a noise I hadn’t heard before while I was traveling on [xxx] in huntsville, al. I got off at the nearest exit to take it to the place that changes my oil. The car didn’t travel more than a few miles before the oil light flashed and car just shut off and wouldn’t start in the second to far right lane of [xxx] it was busy rush-hour traffic and I had to contact aaa for towing as well as non-emergency police to avoid being rear-ended. The police arrived within 15 minutes and the tow truck within 45 minutes. While I waited, I contacted the place that performs my oil changes and was advised that there’s a class action lawsuit against Hyundai for the known issue of engine failure with my vehicle and they advised I have it towed to dealership for repair under the lawsuit. The next day, a mechanic contacted my ex-husband (who contacted aaa for towing of the vehicle) to advise it would be 2 days before diagnosis could occur. I called Friday, November 8th and was told vehicle is past warranty (at 161,000 miles); no appointment was made so would take several weeks to diagnose and I needed to pay $155. 99 for diagnosis. I explained details shared with me about lawsuit and was told my vehicle wasn’t included. I contacted Hyundai corporate and was told the same but advised that they are aware of oil consumption issues which could cause engine failure and asked that they do the right thing and repair vehicle. Claim#[xxx] was provided and I was told to wait for case manager to call within 2 business days. It is unfair of these manufacturers to take advantage of unknowing consumers who aren’t mechanics and have vehicles serviced as they should. It’s also unfair to expect those consumers to not trust the information shared by the mechanics servicing the vehicle. I want the vehicle repaired or to receive a check for value of vehicle. It’s fair. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

Driving at approximately 35 mph check engine light came on p0331 knock sensor - light was cleared drove 14 miles cel was back on. Called Hyundai about the code & knock sensor in reference to all the Hyundai models being recalled for the same problem and a warranty extension being granted. Hyundai advised me to take it to a local dealer for diagnosis and pay the fee of course. I did just that. The dealer clear the codes and sent me home. Cel was on again. Car was back at dealer confirmed knock sensor replacement needed. I inquired about extension of warranty on my car. I was told it's not on the list. Called Hyundai back advised of the confirmation of diagnosis just to be informed that my car isn't covered under the extension warranty. We established that already. I asked to be escalated & was given a supervisor who suggested while the problem is being investigated I could ask the dealer to request goodwill from Hyundai. Denied. Called Hyundai to follow up on my claim, I was advised claim closed my car isn't covered under the extension warranty for the same problem as other models and out of original warranty. Which I already knew. I was trying to find out if my car should be added to the list covered. I was told once the claim is closed it is closed. Hyundai needs to protect the owners of all Hyundai vehicles not just the popular ones. Since they closed my claim that fast. I would love an explanation as to why I was advised to take it to the dealer pay the fee and 25x the price for repair vs an independent shop. This is the 3rd time I've been without my car while it sits at the dealer waiting on parts. I'm left with a large bill, an unsafe engine and no vehicle. Hyundai needs to be held accountable. We shouldn't fear for our safety while driving. Bought in 2011 & it currently has 106,350 miles. Still within the 15 year, 150,000 mile warranty extended to other Hyundai owners whether original or not. I'm the original owner. My vehicle needs to be safe to drive.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 07/24/2023

Tired of engine and electrical failures. As recently as 7/11/2023, I brought my vehicle, 2011 Veracruz limited fwd SUV, to the brandon (FL) Hyundai delaer for a supposed recall repair. I brought in the car, and picked it up the following day, and was assured that the recall (due to "leaky head gaskets") was taken care as well as the check engine (ce) light - the alternator was not replaced (as I had replaced it on 6/28/23 [$241. 86 + tax]) with the excuse "it had passed all tests". A couple of days later, the ce light came back. I brought in the car again 7/24/23 and was told upon pick up that same day, that the engine "had a connector loose". Back on the road again, on 7/27/23 the ce light came up again. I decided to check the car myself and noticed: #1. No (recall related) work had been done!!; #2. I decided to see what the ce light meant (p0420) so I removed the bank 1 catalytic converter and was astounded at the enormous amount to oil leaking and covering every nook and crany of the front engine - pictures included!! I purchased a new exhaust manifold gasket ($23. 30 + tax) and throttle body spray cleaner ($38. 43 + tax) to repair and take it back to the dealer for a thorough check up - keeping my fingers crossed. This has been the latest expenses in a litany of expenses (tools, parts, chemicals, related accesories), time off, trips to the dealer and what not in the history of this SUV since I purchased back in 8/2010. Hyndai has refussed to pay a penny for all my expenses or repairs all the way to te point of charging for a recall repair never done! btw, I have had the alternator replaced, by myself and by the same dealer, four (4) times!!.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 05/17/2023

The car would not start so we had it towed to a local repair shop. (the closest Hyundai dealer is located 91 miles (182 round trip). The local shop diagnostics indicated an oil leak in the valve cover gasket which dripped onto the alternator and the drive belt. The obvious way to fix the problem was to replace the valve cover gasket, the alternator and the drive belt. The parts were obtained from an online parts distributor. The diagnostic work was done by the shop and the labor was performed by a well known master mechanic with over 25 years of experience and is recognized by the ase. I filed several claims with Hyundai who keep coming up with reasons why they can't pay the claim for a total $600. 00 out of pocket cost. The car was fixed 7/9/2021 and has run great since then with no leakage! I have filed claims several times and each time they request more documentation be furnished. The latest rejection is dated 5/16/2023 and Hyundai has assigned a consumer case #21314437.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 03/17/2022

This recall only replaces the front cylinder bank cover gasket, but there's oil leaking on to my engine from the other valve gasket cover too. Hyundai wants to charge me $600 to replace that. The car has stopped on the road in the middle of me driving it twice (both in March 2021) - luckily no crash as it was in a residential area. I've paid over $1000 in repairs as Hyundai didn't have a recall 'solution' despite the car not working. I'm including the receipt for the alternator replacement as well as proof of the (first - there were multiple) battery replacements before there was a 'solution'. Hyundai won't reimburse me for these.
