6 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 03/20/2024

Abs anti-lock brake system failure (abs control unit) as seen in NHTSA campaign #23v651000, for newer year models, the anti-lock brake system (abs) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving. This recall should also include 2008-2010 Hyundai Veracruz's as the abs module is the same part number and can leak brake fluid. This can lead to serious injury or death as the car may not function as intended or catch on fire. I noticed a strong burning smell similar to burning toast when the car was dropped off at the shop. My mechanics noticed my abs control unit had liquid coming out of the poorly sealed module, and told me to report this to the ntsha. The unit had to be replaced for about $3800. The first symptom is the esc light flashing while driving. Others include the awd light, brake light, abs light, and, traction control lights. On many forum's like the link shown below other people have experienced this issue on the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz as well. This indicate that the recall should be pushed to all Veracruz models. Hyundai should be responsible for the safety of all Veracruz owner's just not a few. . Read more...

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

Component or system failed or malfunctioned: the abs harness connecting to the abs module is the primary culprit. Specifically, the top part of the harness is not adequately sealed, which has led to water ingress and subsequent wire shorting. Availability for inspection: no, the abs harness is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: the malfunctioning abs harness poses a significant safety risk. When the abs system fails, it affects braking performance, stability control, and traction control. This jeopardizes the safety of both the driver and other road users. Confirmation by service centers: while the issue was previously identified by the Hyundai dealer it was attributed to a short in the tow hitch wire. Unfortunately, the problem was not adequately resolved at that time. The recent appearance of the esc light, abs light, and traction control light confirms that the issue persists. Inspections: the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives specifically for this issue. However, the symptoms (warning lights) have been observed consistently during driving. Warning lamps and symptoms: esc light: periodic flashing and occasional getting stuck. Abs light and traction control light: illuminating after driving, especially during turns or rapid acceleration. These symptoms have been present for an extended period. Cause assessment: the top part of the abs harnesses not being properly sealed has allowed water ingress, leading to wire shorting.

My system has not failed at this point. However, I am very concerned about the potential abs brake potential fire hazard. I have always kept my vehicle in the garage. Now I have to expose it to weather conditions. I am parking outside away from structures as instructed in the recall. I constantly transport 2 grandchildren in car seats in my Hyundai vera cruz. It is very frightening to think my vehicle could possibly catch on fire while driving as well as ignite in my driveway. I just received my recall notice a few weeks ago even though the automakers were aware of it for months. I would like to file a complaint as well as push for an immediate remedy. 17 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 09/22/2023

I received a notice of a recall (23v-651) in September of last year, and Hyundai has not yet fixed the issue. This is the second possibly life-threatening recall on this car since I have owned it, and each time it has taken over six months for a remedy. In addition to risking my life and those of my passengers on a daily basis, because I have been instructed to park outside I have to park the car on the street and risk having it damaged or stolen. Is there any time limit to how long a car manufacturer can neglect fixing a problem like this? 7 months and counting seems excessive.

The break, abs, esc and chk engine light all came on and literally everything shut down. There was no steering (extremely difficult), and worst of all no breaks. I could barely bring the car to a stop with both feet and had to divert my travel into a parking lot to avoid going through a red light. The problem stems from a faulty abs module and has been reported numerous times on various web sites. The repair is very costly and the consequences are so potentially deadly I can't understand why this has not been a recall item. . Please do the driving public a huge favor and investigate this problem. It's not as though Hyundai doesn't know about the problem.

The abs module is faulty because of the defective wiring harness. The harness is susceptible to live environmental elements especially during winter due to the high salt use on roads especially in the states with harsh winter. This problem creat a safety hazards and render the vehicle operation in a stall mode. 29 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

On many occasions, specifically on 8/26/2010 (odo: 16204), 7/29/2013 (odo: 48833), and 12/30/13 (odo: 52877) that are a matter of documentation, among others, I advised Hyundai that I was experiencing a brake problem which I variously described s "squeak," "shudder," and "plunk. " they were never able to identify the cause of these disturbing sounds until recently, shortly after the expiration of the warranty. Hyundai has now finally identified the problem as replacement of the hecu for the abs. I talked to the service manager; he said that corrosion had been noted in these units before. This conversation suggests that Hyundai had a body of knowledge concerning the hecu issue. Instead of waiting to "duplicate" the problem, they should have investigated and inspected the hecu while it was still under warranty. Now the problem will cost me $2600.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

My airbag and esc lights went off and I took the car to dealership. They are saying that both the control modules (abs, airbag) need to be replaced and the parts alone cost around $2600. The car is out of warranty because of 5 year period (bought in sept 2008) even though the mileage is less than 60k. There were multiple recalls on this vehicle and it seems like these modules should not be failing for 50k miles. I have heard multiple people complaining about the issue and I think Hyundai should get the control modules replaced.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

Three warning lights came on in vehicle. Esc, abf, parking!brake were the lights that lit up on dashboard. Took vehicle in to local mechanic and he ran computer diagnostics on it, it came up with internal failure of the hydraulic electronic control unit. I called Hyundai customer care line and was told there were currently no recalls on this problem, but they did file my complaint and said that they take notice of trends and do research when enough problems happen, he encouraged me to file a complaint here as well. He also said that should Hyundai recall this problem I could be reimbursed the 2400. 00 this is going to cost to get it fixed. Vehicle only has 45,000 miles on it, and is only 6 years old, too young and not enough miles for something like this happen. I did speak with a Hyundai dealer service dept and they said they have not seen this in the Veracruz but have seen it more in the sonata.

This vehicle went out of control when trying to park. When I tried to move stick to park, the vehicle took off with 70 - 80 miles an hour. Once it took off lke plane, I had no control over this vehicle. I tried to stop it but breaks did not work, steering was locked and can not turn off ignition either. Vehicle travelled about 800 - 1000 ft before it stopped. Vehicle finally came to stop by trees. Steering, breaks and gas nothing worked as expected and I had no control over this vehicle. This vehicle went through this ordeal in children play area and luckily it was early in the morning and no one was in play area. Imagine if this vehicle was on interstate, major intersection or us / state hwy. This vehicle is road hazard and may cause serios accidents and possibly loss of life. I have also contacted Hyundai and they have opened up case to check but want NHTSA to investigate the issue so we have neutral outcome v/s just Hyundai.
