I had my car sitting in my driveway detailing it. I've always took exceptional care of my vehicles and one thing I've always done was made sure the undercoating was top-notch. As I proceeded to undercoat the inside of the front fender wells on my 97 Qx4 I noticed some rust forming behind the strut tower. Some of it was flaky and some of it was raised rust. I took my scraper and lo and behold found a hole behind the strut tower. I continued to scrape and clean the hole and the area according to the recall campaign from infinity and I'm very concerned about vehicle safety and the rust behind the strut tower on drivers side. I have yet to check my passenger side since the driver side has issues I wanted to go ahead and notify you guys. I know there is a recall for the strut tower on Nissan pathfinders and Infiniti Qx4s 96 through 2004. I have a 96 pathfinder also that just last week I talked to a representative from Nissan north America and it still has a open recall concerning the strut tower. I live in tennessee and by the recall tennessee is not listed as one of the salt states but yet that is where my pathfinder is registered and it has a recall that needs to be performed on the strut tower so I'm wondering if my Qx4 which is a 97 model has had a recall performed on it or if the recall even concerns my Qx4 it clearly has rust behind the strut tower on the driver side and registered in tennessee. Please help me with this issue I had my seat belts replaced in my Qx4 6 months ago and when I had it in there I said something about checking my strut towers but on my ticket they gave me it doesn't list anything about them checking the strut towers campaign # r1109 NHTSA # 11v-244 applied vehicles 97-03 Qx4 (jr50) I need to know what my next action should be and whether or not this recall has been performed please help god bless and thank you very much.

My 13-year-old and severly rusted Infiniti 4wd SUV has been recalled for corrosion problems at the driver-side strut tower. I will be towing it to the dealership for an inspection because I'm afraid to drive it. My car has a fist-sized hole through the fender well in the area described in the recall notice, so it is probably not repairable. But my car also has a rusted out and severly weakened unibody frame at another critical area that would certainly cause a loss of control and probably a crash when it is finally stressed to the breaking point. This area is on the front passenger-side where the mounting pad for the a-frame rear pivot point attaches to the frame. I have made the dealership aware of this and sent them some pictures, and they referred me to the manufaqcturer's customer service representative. He told me that the dealership may refuse to do the recall repair, after evaluating my car, unless I have the "other damage" (which would render the car unsafe) repaired prior to their inspection. If they don't do the recall repair, or determine that it is beyond repair (based entirely on the area affected by the recall), my car may be disqualified from the repurchase program remedy. I may be required to tow my car off of their lot to avoid storage fees. This seems like a manufacturer loophole, they have the right to refuse to do the recall because of other problems, and disqualify my car for a remedy? they have accepted responsibility for the lack of corrosion protection in one critical area, but not for others? what could I, as a car owner, have done to prevent this damage? I feel it's the manufacturer that is at fault. A $35,000 car should last longer than 13 years! so I am submitting this complaint in case others have had the same problem as I and to help force the manufacturer to take ownership of this serious manufacturing flaw and issue a recall.

Driving the vehicle at highway speeds when severe steering wheel vibration began. Checked front suspension and discovered that the right side (passenger side) frame was completely rotted away at the connection point of the lower control arm. This resulted in the seperation of the frame/control arm from its normal position and the right wheel was no longer stable or held in proper geometry. This created a very hazardous saftey related issue without any warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection as I was aware of the strut tower defect on the left side of the vehicle. The dealer informed me that my strut tower was not corroded and could be repaired although the failure to the frame on the opposite side of the vehicle was not part of the recall. Infinity was contacted and evaluated 3 photos sent by the dealer. They informed me that this was not a defect and that I live in the salt belt. Im no rocket scientist but thats why the strut tower recall was issued in the salt belt states, (corrosion). Previous recall for corrosion of the fuel fill tube. I believe a pattern is emerging. My research revealed that other vehicles of this type are exibiting the same failure and have been met with deaf ears at infinity motor division. This is a serious safety issue and should be investigated. The left side frame was in normal condition and exposed to the same salt and elements as the right side. The only difference between sides is the air conditioning drain is directly over the failure site allowing water to constantly contact the frame when the air conditioning is used.
The contact owns a 1997 Infiniti Qx4. The contact stated that the front driver¿s side strut housing was defective. The contact made repairs to the vehicle and later received notification of NHTSA campaign id number 11v244000 (suspension:front). The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where it was confirmed that the contact had made adequate repairs to the driver¿s side strut housing, per the recall. The contact stated that most recently, the passenger¿s side strut tower had also become defective, causing the strut housing to become separated from the inner hood ledge assembly. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance for the most recent failure. The contact stated that the dealer previously added a protective coating to the passenger¿s side of the strut housing when the vehicle was taken for inspection under the recall but was not repaired. The vehicle was also taken to a private mechanic for inspection. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 174,000.

1999 Infiniti Qx4. Consumer writes in regards to recent repairs due to corrosion the consumer received a recall notice regarding corrosion to the strut tower. The consumer did not believe the corrosion issue was isolated to the drivers side strut tower housing in the front wheel area. The corrosion on the consumers vehicle was extremely bad in the inner fender panel which housed the engine mounts. It was discovered when the struts had to be replaced due to the vehicle bouncing. The mechanic informed the consumer, they were not able to put the vehicle on the rack due to the severity of the corrosion and that the engine was hanging on by a few bolts on one side of the vehicle. The consumer was informed there was additional corrosion under the front end of the vehicle. The mechanic indicated it was not as severe as the previous corrosion , but it would need to be fixed.

While driving my 2003 Infiniti Qx4 on the highway, I noticed a severe vibration coming from the left side of my vehicle and tire. I took it to a local service repair shop and they took off my left front tire and saw where my inner apron was severely corroded, cracked and perforated. They stated they never seen such a type of corrosion in this area and that I should have the manufacturer look at it and take it to a body shop. They stated that the vehicle should be repaired as soon as possible as it was a serious safety risk as the strut tower could dislodge and come up through the hood of my vehicle which is close to my brake line and could affect my steering. I did take it 2 body shops both of which concurred that this type of corrosion should not have happened and they also stressed it was compromising my safety and there could be a shift of my suspension and loss of control of my vehicle while driving. I did contact Infiniti service department and it was only glanced at not inspected. I filed a complaint with Infiniti consumer affairs and wrote a letter to the owner of closest dealership. I was than about a week later asked by the local dealer if they could look at my SUV again and pictures were emailed by body shop to the service department of dealership and sent to corporate and my request to have them repair vehicle was denied and I have had vehicle repaired at my cost at local body shop. Pictures are available that were taken by body shop and I statement of serious safety risk of vehicle is also available from body shop.
