My vehicle needs two catalytic converters replaced in order to pass smog. Infiniti dealer wants $5600 to make this repair! this is a common problem for this vehicle and should be a recall item.

Catalytic converters have failed several times. Left side catalytic converter replaced by previous owner in 2013. Right side catalytic converter replaced by current owner in 2016. Left side catalytic converter needs to be replaced again. Contacted dealer and Infiniti consumer affairs. They did not offer a solution.
Experiencing almost identical issues to another complaint I saw that was previously filed (#10924936). Told we need to replace catalytic converters at $2,000 each. Dealership said it's a known issue with the vehicles. If it's a known issue, perhaps something should be done about it. We've also had to have the battery replaced numerous times. Had to call aaa several times to jump the vehicle.

We purchased this vehicle used on may 5, 2017. My wife was driving it down a city street at less than 45mph, and it broke down on us on may 23rd, and was sent in for repairs. Told it was a relay or an issue with the timing. Got the vehicle back on June 1, and here it is June 7th and at the same location as before, at the same speed, it broke down with the same issue. We've owned the vehicle for one month and been in the shop twice. Please help as this has the potential to be a very costly repair.
We have had problems with the battery since we bought the Qx56. SUV's completely dies after a glove box light, radio has been played for 20 to 30 minutes, car cannot be jumped by typical cables, every time we either had to have a heavy duty jump done by tow company or battery was replaced by Infiniti. Timing chain and both catalytic converters need to be replaced, with engine issues. Infiniti had SUV for almost a month to fix engine and timing chain. Engine light still coming on then we where told the converters needed to be replaced. $5k to fix. It sounds like this is a very common issue with Qx56 for this year and others. After each time engine light came on Infiniti service dept told us to continue driving the car and after 2 weeks if it didn't reset then call back again. We did this reluctantly, because I am my wife have been taught that when you have an engine light come on, stop call, and get the vehicle in to be inspected.
I'm currently dealing with the timing chain nightmare so many others have had and are having. Of course just as most of the others I'm out of warranty and really frustrated that Infiniti hasn't stepped up to the plate to address the problem properly as opposed to renaming the Qx56 to qx 80 to save themselves, leaving consumers scrambling with expensive time consuming fixes to a known defect on their part. Where's the accountability on their part, do a certain number of people have to die or be injured before the consumers are provided with the proper assistance? who really looks out for us?.
The Infiniti Qx56 has a known issue with the timing chain on the side that drives the fuel pump. The chain stretches and begins to rub metal against metal. The cost to repair is 4000 - 5000 dollars and if you do not repair you run the risk of ruining the motor and that is 17,000. I was told by the Infiniti mechanic it is a known issue and he could repair them in his sleep and the new chains are "heaver duty". Infiniti says it is not a common problem so they will not repair it out of warranty. See the attached web site. Just this one site has over 70 people with this issue. . Read more...
Timing chain failed, needed to be replaced, $6000+ repair.
With 72000 miles on the vehicle, two thousand over warranty, the timing chain has to be replaced. Infiniti refuses to offer any financial assistance when it is an obvious manufacturing defect. That is evidenced by the fact that replacement parts have been completely re-engineered. A timing chain failure at highway speed would result in a serious accident or fatality. The vehicle has been carefully maintained by Nissan.
The vehicle died when at a stop light and rolled back hitting the car behind us. I looked on your website and apparently it was caused by a faulty engine control module (ecm) in the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm). This appears to have been recalled on all 2004 to 2006 Infiniti Qx56 vehicles, however, I received no such notice and Infiniti says their is not recall associated with my VIN number. I believe my VIN number was left out in error and this should be recalled. This vehicle has also lost power a number of times while driving, but those incidents didn't result in an accident (luckily). Thank you.

On 9-4-2011 I left tallahassee, florida. As I got to the edge of town I noticed it started to idle slightly high. By the time I got to thomasville, georgia, it would accellerate to about 45 mph without any excelleration pressure and the breakes were required frequently. Between thomasville and moultrie, georgia, it would accellerate independently but it would drop down if I pressed and released the accellerator. It also seemed to maintain speed a bit better if I used the cruse control. As I turned onto mack dekle road just south of moultrie, the engine tacked out into the (maximum) red area. In a panic, I pressed the brake and slowed down enough to force it to "park". I restarted the vehicle several times and it revved to maximum rpms. I left it in the lane and called my wife who called ctv towing. After about 30 minutes I started it and it idled normally so I carefully moved it to the the lee lewis road (less traffic and speed). The vehicle was then towed to nappleton infinity in tallahssee, florida on Monday. I called the infinity dealer to tell them it was coming. After running computer checks and test driving, they concluding that the accellerator was hung on the floor mat. That is actually not the case as there was an obvious spontaneous accelleration that started in tallahassee. The floor mat was not moved between the time the vehicle accellerorated on mack dekle road and the time it idled/ran normally to move it to lee lewis road.

The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
