Differential Unit Problems of Jaguar XF

The rear differential seal failed due to faulty manufacturing process wherein contaminated "lifetime" differential fluid was sealed into the differential housing causing excessive and premature pinion gear wear. This wear results in movement of the half shafts and the destruction of the differential seals. In order to remedy the situation an entire "new" differential must be installed. Simply ordering replacement seals and pinion gears will not suffice as the differential design was changed and the new components are of a different size, which results in requiring complete replacement of the rear differential at a cost of anywhere from $6200 - $8900, according to Jaguar dealerships. Jaguar is fully aware of this issue and have issued many TSB regarding same; however, they failed to take preventive action on tens of thousands of vehicles, many of which did not show symptoms of failure until after the manufacturer's warranty expires, resulting in hefty bills to unsuspecting owners.

Began noticing a small whine in the differential, more obvious at low speed. Level of noise increased rapidly. Called dealer for an appointment 10/22/12 saw them that day and they verified the problem. Called Jaguar for authorization. Notified by Jaguar on 10/23/12 full authorization to replace the entire differential. Dealer advises an anticipated two day delivery time for replacement. Note: completely satisfied that the dealer was helpful in such rapid authorization and turn around of replacement parts. My understanding is that usually a diff. Fluid analysis and "other remedies" are suggested prior to a major component replacement. I anticipate receiving the car back Friday the 26th, or the following Monday. They also notified me of a tail light recall which had not been done, which I had not been advised of by Jaguar.
