1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2020

I keep having service shifter pop up where the speedometer is. It originally popped up about 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. It pops up at random times while the vehicle is moving. I have taken the vehicle in 3 times to have it looked at. The first time they replaced a wiring harness. The second time they said nothing is wrong. And the third time they cleaned a connector. After all three times I took the vehicle in the car was fine for about a month, then the message came back.

2 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

I bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude with 56,000. I had it for 1 day before I got a service shifter warning on my dashboard and all of the lights on the shifter lit up red. I called the dealership and they told me to come in right away, but the light went off when I turned the car off. The light didn't come back on for a few week, but now it comes on everyday. I have read several forums about people having the same issues with their 2016-2019 Jeeps, and even after getting the wiring and shifter replaced the issue will come back. I've read about people whose car gets stuck in gear and they can't put it into drive or park. This needs to be looked into because people cannot afford to keep paying to have the issue fixed when it isn't really getting fixed and nobody knows why.

Service shifter warning appears in main console display which replaces your digital speed indicator. Will not disappear until you stop and restart car. Happens while moving. After googling the issue appears quite a few others have this same problem. Is just distracting if youre on the highway with your current speed suddenly replaced with a warning. As per others on google with the same issue. . Had to have the shifter bezel and wiring harness replaced.

4 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

All prnd indicator lights on the shifter unit illuminate at once, and stay lit. "service shifter" warning appears on the instrument cluster display. When "service shifter" warning is displayed, cannot be turned off and digital speedometer readings (or other information) are no longer displayed. Prnd shifter indicator lights blink sporadically until warning finally displays. Lights stay illuminated after warning appears. Prnd lights and display warning appear while vehicle is parked/stationary as well as when vehicle is in motion. Started sporadically, roughly 6 months ago (early 2019) and would typically go away if vehicle was turned off and re-started. These warnings now happen daily, every time I start the vehicle, and almost never go away. Upon researching this concern online, it appears that this is a known issue that many have been experiencing since around 2012. Most web inquires indicate that this may be related to a wiring harness? I took to the dealership for service and was told it would be $700 to replace the entire shifter, and that if I do not replace, I could find myself unable to put the vehicle in park. Hoping that this is something that is being investigated and recalled so that I do not have to pay for something that is a recurring, known safety issue.

5 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Started having service shifter codes at approximately 30k. Would be repaired & after about 8 wks it would throw the same code. Repeated the same cycle 2 adtl times. Took a total of 4 times till the entire shifter, module & wiring were replaced. At 40k miles my Jeep died on me going down a hill. Had to coast down hill & find a halfway safe area off the highway. I had no ability to start the vehicle. The electronics would come on when I turned the key but it would not turn over. All the lights on the shifter would be solid & the service shifter alert came on. Immediately called the dealership. The service adviser walked me thru how to reset the car. Wait for 5 minutes. Turn the key on & let it cycle. Turn the key off. Repeat the process 3 x's till it starts. Took it into the dealership & was told the thermostat module & the radiator. Neither of which would be covered under warranty. Same time I also had an oil change done. 2 1/2 mths later same issue. Die going down a hill. Again took it to the dealership. Told that it was a sensor & wasn't covered under warranty. Had an oil change done this time. I have not replaced any parts on it yet. The thermostat module & the radiator are still the same as the first time I took them in. 8 weeks later same issue. I took it to my local auto repair in town since the dealership could not get me in for 2 weeks & the Jeep was leaving me coasting for a safe space to pull over in traffic. Within 2 minutes they discovered Jeep was 2 quarts low on oil. The engine was losing oil pressure & was shutting off the engine to keep it from damaging the motor. Since then I've tried to schedule service with two different dealerships only to be told that using 2-3 quarts extra of oil in between oil changes is normal & they can not do anything.

We have taken our Jeep in countless times since obtaining it brand new in 2016 for a service shift issue. They replaced our thermostat the first time then wiring harness to the transmission/bcm the second time since then the dealership has stated with out a check engine light not to worry about this issue. Every time it happens our Jeep heats up past 220 degrees and starts to run rough.
