2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

When driving then braking I/ we noticed that the Jeep had vibration and chattering ,shaking feeling at 65 mph on the highway. Then started to notice chatter and scrapping sound at lower speeds like 25-35 mph . So looking at the rotors I found the right rear to have (2) two grooves on it . So I took it to big o in sparks ,nv 89431 for a brake inspection and they showed me that the brake pads still had 65 to 70 percent left and that the rotors were crackedin several places. They had to replace both rotors and brake pads . I feel this is a defect in the product and should be investigated . If they came apart while driving someone could loose control and possiblly loose there life.

While operating this vehicle on a roadway the vehicle is making scraping noise as if it needed brake pads, and has hardly any braking abilities and does not waiver in intensity or braking ablity even with extra pressure to the brakes peddle. The braking system was checked at a service rep. Who advised the brake pads were fine, however the on board computer gave codes that the power steering computer software was interfearing with the braking software. Please advise what I need to do this is my youngest daughters daily vehicle.

Unable to put vehicle in park turn off the starter and after about 30-60 seconds able to put into park and restart the vehicle. On 12-2-18 I was slowing for a stop light and the vehicle wouldn't allow me to put the hazard lights on when I couldn't get the starter to disengage and put into park to restart the vehicle. It occurs without warning and the emergency brake must be pulled up. 2. The brakes often sound like they are rubbing (needing brake pads). 3. The radio will randomly change from fm to sirius and unable to turn off/on or return to the radio menu. 4. The radio volume most of time must be at 15 or higher to listen to the radio and will randomly jump to full volume while driving. 5. The android auto that I use for navigation and telephone will randomly scroll through the telephone contacts and begin calling. I have to unplug the phone to stop this.

I bought new Jeep Cherokee 2016 3. 2 l in Sep. 2016. Was very happy for first few months and then I noticed I got jerk while I was driving. I informed the dealership guy but, he said that's normal it happened because of automatic transmission. After couple a months I got service shifter light on. I went to the dealership and they updated software. It was back up again with in a week so I decided to change the dealership. I went another Jeep dealership got error code and fix it. It was working fine for at least three months and I got back service shifter sign but, this time it was with service forward sign too. They fix it but because of that my break pads was worn down and it was not covered under warranty and I have to pay out of pocket. After a week I got service transmission light on. Failure Date: 07/29/2015

After less than a year and less than 18k miles, I was told I needed new brake rotors because mine were warped. The dealer claimed that getting them too hot will cause them to warp. I have been driving many years and have never needed brake rotors replaced, especially after 18k miles, nor have I altered my driving style. My last vehicle went over 100k miles without even needing brake pads. I believe that there is a problem with the the brakes, not the way I drive.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

I purchased the above listed vehicle in April 2013, had to bring it back for an issue with the brakes. I had little to no pedal, brought the vehicle into the dealer waited approximately two weeks and the vehicle was returned to me. Service writer stated that being the truck was on the lot for a while, the brakes got warped. Was told that the brakes were changed. I left with the vehicle that had a little more pedal since I brought it into service. On or about the first week of Feb. 2014 I experienced my brake pedal was hard as a rock and I was unable to stop the vehicle. Brought my vehicle into service explained to them what was going on and they said it was the brake boosters. I get into my vehicle a few days later and once again I was not able to stop the vehicle, this time I almost was involved in an accident. I drove the vehicle almost 10 miles at 20 mph to the dealership and demanded they fix the brakes. The service manager came out got into my vehicle drove it down the street while I was the vehicle, the vehicle was there for almost five weeks, I finally received a call on April 10, 2014 that my vehicle was ready. I get into the vehicle I press on the brake pedal and the pedal goes right to the floor. I was advised by the service writer that I needed rear brakes and that is why its doing that. The cost for rear brakes was about 500. 00, I declined and told the service writer I had my brakes done several months ago and they should not be in need of repair. He looked into the system and told me only my front brakes were repaired, they just surfaced the rotors and put the same pads back on. I went to the show room asked for a 2011 grand Cherokee brought it to the service department and showed them a vehicle with 6000 more miles than mine and two millimeters less pad than mine and the brake pedal was full.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

This is a serious problem that Jeep knows about, but I don't think they know how to fix it. It's commonly referred to as the "death wobble" -- and I gather that it might be more common amongst Jeeps that are lifted, though mine has not been lifted. Saturday, may 15, 2004. Driving at freeway speed. Veered into left lane to avoid cars that were slowing in my lane. I stepped on the brake as I moved into the left lane. Steering wheel and whole front of car shook violently to the point it felt that it was going to fall apart. Took foot off gas/brake and as the car slowed down it stopped shaking after about 5-10 seconds. Pulled into far left shoulder b/c I was shaken up, then proceeded home. I took the car to a brake shop. My car had 18,000 miles on it and yet the rotors were warped, so I had the rotors and brake pads replaced. Tuesday, may 25, 2004. Same freeway incident from above occurred. Did some research on the internet and quickly found "death wobble," on a variety of sites about Jeeps. Discovered problem might be an alignment problem, so I had my car aligned and the tires balanced. Sunday, June 20, 2004. Car shook again on freeway. Had been told by a friend that turning the wheel slightly to the right might stop the shaking. I did this and the shaking stopped. Saturday, July 03, 2004. Car shook while going through 9th st. Tunnel in washington DC. Took car to rosenthal Jeep. Wrote lengthly description of the problem on the drop-off envelope. Asked that they check out the entire front of the car. Jeep replaced the steering damper -- which was "leaking. " Saturday, July 10, 2004. Car shook on freeway. Called rosenthal Jeep at 2:57pm. A woman in the service department listened to my problem, put me on hold and then put me into a male's voicemail. Have yet to receive a return phone call.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Front disc brake rotors are warping approximately every 10,000 miles. This causes the brake pedal to pulse and the steering wheel to rotate a few degrees left and right during braking. Jeep's warranty specifically excludes brake rotors after 12,000 miles, leading me to the conclusion that they are aware that there is a design or material problem with the brake rotors. Rotors should last longer than the brake pads.
