1 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/21/2020

6 times in the last week, my car has shut off mid drive. As I am driving, my car will ding, my battery light will flash on and then my car will completely shut down within 3-5 seconds. I will have to turn my key to off, wait a minute and restart. I will have to pump the gas pedal and my car will sputter before it turns over and starts back up. Under normal circumstances, I do not have any engine lights displayed on my screen for attention and everything runs smoothly. I have also checked my battery on the screen display as I drive and it is always between 14. 2-14. 4v. During these shuts, my car is going under 30 miles per hour, but has happened as I am turning and going straight. Most recently (this morning), I was driving straight (had just pulled out of my parking spot at my apartment) and my battery light turned on and my car locked. The steering wheel and pedals were unusable, but my engine remained on. I checked my battery during this and it says it was at 12. 2v. I had to shut my car off, pump the gas to turn the engine over and my battery displayed as back at 14. 4v. This happened 3 more times before I was out of my apartment complex (every 50 feet or so) and I turned around and parked again. I had my car hooked up to diagnostics machine after it began the first shut downs, but it returned with no error codes and my battery tested fine and all the wires were secure. I called my Jeep dealership and they stated I am outside my warranty (by 800 miles), so I would have to pay for the fix. This is clearly a defect with my car. I can see through online research that many other Jeep Cherokee owners are having these exact issues and Jeep is giving them the runaround. I also see there are some recalls for Jeep pertinent to this concern, however my particular car is not included. This is very dangerous as my son was in my car for all occurrences + I have a 30 min commute.

3 Power Steering Pump problem of the 1997 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

Radiator & various ac parts needed replacement. Steering gave out in 2002. A screw went through an engine part. Recently, a joint connecting the axel to the steering mechanism had to be replaced. Fuel pump failed. Incredibly, it is inside the gas tank. I have since learned that Jeep gas tanks corrode on the inside, thus clogging the fuel pump. This is a very expensive repair because of the labor. There is still the possibility that this new fuel pump may also fail, because the gas tank was not replaced and the problem still exists. I\\\\\\'ve heard numerous similar complaints regarding the fuel system from other Jeep owners. There should have been a recall.
