My 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude plus is exhibiting a persistent metallic rattling and grinding noise originating from the power transfer unit (ptu) and the propeller shaft interface. The noise is most prominent during acceleration and coasting at speeds under 20 mph. Confirmed through dr. Auto llc, in warren, or. That it is in fact ptu unit attached to the propeller shaft. Plan to go through a dealership soon. ?this failure mirrors the symptoms described in NHTSA recall 23v-302 (fca recall 01c). Although my specific VIN is currently not included in this recall, the mechanical symptoms—specifically vibration and grinding at the ptu output—indicate a premature failure of the input shaft splines. ?this presents a significant safety risk, as the failure of these splines can lead to an abrupt loss of motive power while in motion and a loss of the "park" function, which could lead to an unintended vehicle rollaway. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate whether the current recall scope should be expanded to include additional 2019 Jeep Cherokee units, such as mine, that were manufactured with the same defective ptu components. Im afraid to lose power to my wheels while im driving with young kids in my vehicle and I am afraid to lose parking function that could injure someone or cause property damage.

The parking assist, parking, abs warning continues. There is a recall on the year model but not my VIN. I have not even been able to afford the sales tax (over $1000 usd) and dealer refuses to assist with the cost of diagnostic or malfunction repair.
The ptu was bad and was replaced by the dealership under Chrysler extended warranty. The dealership then said the transfer case module and motor needed to be replaced and while at the dealership replacing those components they informed me that the rear differential axle is bad resulting from the bad ptu.
Power transfer unit (ptu), the service 4wd light keeps coming on and off. 2019 Jeep Cherokee.
Axle, driveshaft, and differential concern. The 4x4 warning light came on the dash and the four-wheel-drive system stopped functioning properly. Dealer diagnosed a failing ptu (power transfer unit) and recommended installing an sop ptu unit. Symptoms included grinding, vibration, and inconsistent 4x4 engagement, creating a safety concern during normal driving. Mileage at time of replacement (lights on dash 500 miles prior) : 49,536. Total repair cost: $2,416.
Back in July of 2025, my vehicle abruptly stopped and lost all power on the thruway. Vehicle was towed immediately to local dealership (emerling Jeep in springville NY ), where it then sat for almost 9 months awaiting a safety recall related to the ptu, as was confirmed by dealership. Fast forward to this year, early April 2026, I finally received vehicle back, and was informed a new ptu /software program update had been performed on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Upon driving my car off dealership lot, I noticed my inspection sticker had expired, and my vehicle wasn't operating at a normal pace. A constant thud, transmission delay was evident almost immediately. Attempting to finally try and get my vehicle back to its normal condition, I drove to a nearby mechanic to try and get car inspected. Not even 30min after receiving vehicle back, it started to lose power again. I was luckily able to get to mechanic, and after close inspection of vehicle, he informed me that my car wasn't safe to drive. The rear differential was now in jeopardy. Mechanic said the constant strain from bad ptu likely damaged my rear differential, and that it needed to get replaced. When I informed emerling of what transpired, they denied my recommendation to drop car back off too them. Haven't responded to several emails asking them to take car back. In my opinion, emerlings lack of care and the need to remove me as quick as possible caused more emotional distress, and I could have gotten into accident on thruway due to their negligence. The reason emerling never preformed inspection, in my opinion, was because they already knew it wouldn't pass, yet still allowed me to leave their lot. That's complete negligence on they're part, and I'm not seeking any type of tangible request. I merely want the dealership to be held accountable so someone else doesnt go thru what I went thru. Vehicle is now at another dealership awaiting diagnosis, that will then be forwarded to Jeep/mopar.

Oil filter housing; sensors; gasket; coolant temp sensor . Wheel sensor set too low and not what is recommended for wheel safety.
Had to have the ptu replaced in may of 2023 due to the sv 4wd light that came on. Now fast forward to January of 2025 I needed to replace the rear differential. Also new tires once again! correlation? who knows. I keep hearing from dealerships I’ve dealt with this is a common issue for the 2019 Jeep Cherokees. I’m hoping enough customers put in complaints so we can get compensated. It makes me want to tell everyone to avoid purchasing Jeeps. ( at least 2019) this has been expensive and frustrating and worrisome about my family and I safety. I do have pictures upon request from the dealership(s) that have worked on my vehicle.
Wheel lugs seize to wheels making it difficult to remove them if you have a flat tire. Unlike metals causes the problem. Safety issue.
The lug bolts that hold the tires on are swollen in place and cannot be removed without breaking them. As a result I cannot get the tires off of my vehicle. To remove the tires I have to take the vehicle to a dealership where they have to break the bolts to get the tires off. The Jeep dealership told me this was a common problem with Jeeps and chryslers because the factory installs lug bolts with caps on them which are prone to swelling and prevent the tires from being removed. If I had gotten a flat tire I would have been stranded as the tires cannot be removed due to the swelling of the bolts. This is obviously very dangerous as it results in people being stranded on the side of the road because the tire cannot be removed to put on a spare. To fix this problem and prevent it from reoccurring I now have to buy 20 new lug bolts that are not capped and take my car to the dealership where they have special tools to break the lug bolts and remove the tires. This is also causing financial hardship as the new uncapped lug bolts cost $204 and the labor to remove the tires is $312. These capped lug bolts are defective because they are known to be prone to swelling and locking the tires in place. As such this is a dangerous factory defect and these capped bolts should not be used.

This is a known issue with Jeep. But they refuse to repair it at no cost. My emergency brake has become corroded due to water leaking into the module and from time to time the emergency brakes will get stuck to the point my car will not move. This recently happened last night when my vehicle was parked in the garage. I had recently been driving through a major rain storm. And upon trying to use my vehicle the next day. . . The emergency brakes would not release. My mechanic brought his computer over and verified the check engine light was related to the emergency brakes not releasing. This is a definite safety hazard! I have also noticed that certain safety features are being disabled due to the emergency brake not working properly. For example if I leave my Jeep in drive and open the door the emergency brakes should automatically engage disabling roll away. This feature no longer works. Another future, if my driver seat seat belt was not buckled my emergency brake would engage. This is no longer working. I am very concerned about this. There are countless other reports of emergency brake errors. Please issue a recall!.
While driving the front left wheel started to come off the axel. The stability control light came on prior to the incident. The vehicle was towed to a Chrysler dealership for a mechanic to inspect the vehicle. A mechanic at a Chrysler dealership inspected the vehicle and the following was repairs were needed- new axle shaft, new knuckle, and new arm control. The axle broke and knuckle broke which resulted in the tire coming off of the vehicle. A claim was turned into insurance carrier and repairs have been completed to the vehicle.

Light engine on but off plus wires ? also issue wires all of engine or other keep flasher off and on also issue tires I bought 4 tires and blade brake issue after bought dealership I have told but they rip off but issue not safety hard to explain english also feel hot in car without heat and gas fill but not show plus hot inside . .
In the first incident, the engine stalled. Next incident, warning lights on the dash appeared (engine light, traction light, and throttle control) and when pressing on the gas peddle, the car would not respond (would not increase speed). I had to put on flashers to a warn car behind me. Very scary. Bringing in for service ASAP.
Driving my vehicle back home for a local store 1. 5 mi from my house and the off road warning light came on and then the steering wheel turned left while I was driving on a straight away. Managed to get to my driveway but looks like the right front wheel has detached from the truck altogether and won't move. Could not get my truck no further than the edge of my driveway. It should not be coming apart like a puzzle.
Lug nuts swelling making tire removal impossible. Dealer changed with special tools at a cost of $231. This is a safety issue as flat tire unable to be changed.
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee lugs studs and nuts came off while I was driving and presented a safety hazard for me. It’s Dodge Jeep grand Cherokee responsibility to pay for repairs. Thanks.
I know it's on recall last year but it's happen when driving on freeway over 70miles per hrs and I can feel my steering wheel like not turn like something stop the steel then I can turn or change line on the freeway.
The lug nuts have continued to swell over time. They have either fallen off or become close to impossible to remove for the dealer. Dealer stated that it is a known issue, but an official recall has not been executed yet.
Keep makes a loud grinding noise when I turn right or left. Sounds like it’s coming from the back & underneath. Took it to a mechanic & he checked every thing. It’s not the brakes. He couldn’t figure out the problem. I’m scared to drive it. Don’t want to have the bottom fall out; which is what it sounds like is going to happen. There are recalls that sound like what the problem is but of course they aren’t for my car.
1 - two piece lug bolts, swollen due to poor design, causing unsafe conditions rendering oem provided tools unusable to conduct emergency roadside tire change/repair. 2 - uconnect emergency vehicle connectivity not maintained by manufacturer after 3g network retired, rendering installed safety equipment inoperable.
My Jeep Cherokee have a 4wd warning indication services need. It automatically shifts my power train to snow. Also when in park. The vehicle starts to go to neutral. Please recall this. My car is 2015 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk. I’ve never had an accident and this is either a system glitch or engine issue that can cause damage and injury.
On 1/30/2023, I had a flat tire and called aaa for assistance. The aaa technician was unable to remove the tire and said the vehicle would need to be taken to a full-service auto shop. I then called firestone complete auto care to see if my vehicle could be looked at there. The firestone technician let me know the problem with getting the tire off was relating to the lug nuts. He explained Jeep started using a 2-piece lug nut, where water gets inside and causes swelling. The technician said he has seen this numerous times in Jeeps. . . And mentioned it should be a recall because it is a safety issue. I contacted Jeep 5 times about this. They said there is no recall, and they didn't really care to help me with this. I ended up paying to replace all the lug nuts on my vehicle because I didn't want to have the same thing happen or worse. The people at Jeep have been very dismissive about this, although I have seen many complaints and reviews relating to the same lug nut issue.
The tire pressure monitoring system light came on. I took it to the dealership and they said there is currently no fix for this problem. The front driver side tire also no longer registers on the warning screen. They said if a tire loses air while I'm driving, it's very possible that I will have no warning that it's happening.

Loss of power while driving.
I’ve had this vehicle for a few years now and at the time of purchase the vehicle had 16,000-18,000 miles on it. It’s a 2016 and I believe I purchased the vehicle in 2019 so I’ve had it for about three years now. I didn’t really start to pay any attention to the shaking/shimmy/wobble that the vehicle has until about a year after I purchased it because at first it wasn’t nearly as noticeable as it is today and I had just upgraded from a cheap little chevy cobalt that was a beater and the Jeep was a huge upgrade and improvement from that vehicle causing me to gloss over the problem initially. The problem seems to get worse over time and regardless of me getting new tires, getting them balanced and alignments the same shaking/wobbling/shimmying persists. No issues can be determined that would cause the problem and I am told that the shaking is normal upon reaching higher speeds or that the complaint cannot be replicated. The shaking starts anytime I begin to reach speeds around 45 mph and higher and then seem to stop once reaching speeds around 65 mph . To test further I’ve reached speeds of around 80 mph and again the shaking starts once you get around 70 mph but does not stop shaking when letting off of the accelerator as it does at speeds of 65 mph and lower but instead continues to shake while both pressing the accelerator and letting off of the accelerator becoming worse if you apply the brakes. The shake seems to come from only the front wheels and is violent enough of a shake that it can be visibly witnessed and also felt by looking at the steering wheel and holding onto the steering wheel. Issue persist and has not been resolved. Tires also show uneven and irregular wear on the tread of both front wheels. Front tires need to be replaced more frequently than the rear tires. Rear tires always seem to look almost new while the front tires look as if they weren’t changed at the same time as the rear tires. Not consistent with what would be considered normal.
Wheels locked up, unable to stop car. Wheels were not turning during accelerator and car would not come to a stop when braking as tires were just sliding and skidding on road. Could not change gears.
Drove vehicle and verified noise. Racked vehicle and checked for the cause of the noise. Found the ptu out put broken inside the ptu, also caused damage to the drive shaft. Smoke is from the ptu fluid leaking out all over the exhaust system and note burning off. Note checked for the cause of the ptu failure and found the front and rear tires different circumference. Tires will have to be replaced to prevent damage to the new ptu.
The vehicle at close to the end of the powertrain warranty of 5 year 60,000 miles had the transmission go out. The actual mileage was 55,733. There were no actual dashlights lights prior to the incident. Basically the vehicle would actually go into reverse. The vehicle was then taken to a repair shop for an expensive replacement. The transmission shifter was also needing replacement. Two wheel sensors also were a problem and were in need of repair.
Was driving on the interstate and power steering went out suddenly and vehicle became very hard to control and get off the road.
I was driving on route i79 southbound. I had just entered i79 southbound via exit 152. I was accelerating to the speed limit of 70mph. There were no vehicles or objects within 1/4 mile of my location. At approximately 68mph, the tire front passenger side blew out without cause or reason. As I maneuvered the vehicle over to the shoulder, the rear passenger tire blew out. Upon having the vehicle towed to the repair shop at my expense, I saw that the rim on the front passenger tire was completely destroyed. I believe this was was caused by a defect in the front passenger rim. It appears there was something wrong with the rim.
-transmission sporadically slams into gear while changing gears. Feels like you got rear-ended. -issues with front drivers side metal grinding noise. . . . Had it fixed @ the dealership. . . . 6 months later it's back.
