Axle Assembly problems of the 2006 Jeep Commander

One problem related to axle assembly has been reported for the 2006 Jeep Commander. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Axle Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2006

While driving on the highway, a plastic bag, (in example, like one from walmart or winn dixie) wrapped around the rear axle and broke the pinion seal and fluid leaked out causing internal damage to the rear differential. This resulted in replacing the rear end. This vehicle had less than one thousand miles at the time of this incident. Chrysler/ daimler refused to cover this under warranty and therefore filed the repair cost with my auto insurance. How can a 3 cent plastic bag cause so much damage to a fifty thousand dollar SUV? this SUV is advertised as "trail rated" , what about "street rated"?.
