We have a 2006 Jeep Commander and it sometimes jerks back and forth while driving sometimes it even shifts into neutral and then back to drive the power steering works only part of the time and the airbag system says its off all the time and it will shut off while driving sometimes too really frustrated with this vehicle its a disaster and waiting to happen.
Regardless of distance traveled, outside temperature, the 'transmission over temp' message appears on the dash. Had coolant flushed 2x but message still appears intermittently. Had mechanic look at more than a few times, however could not replicate message and thus no resolution/fix to problem. Jeep recently had ignition switch recall completed (thought that would never happen) but 'transmission over temp' would occur prior to that recall being completed. Thought the two were connected somehow. Main concern is the engine does not overhear, temp reads below middle mark but when transmission message appears, after a few minutes, transmission feels 'off' or jumpy. Something is definitely happening. Not safe to drive, not confident taking it on long trips because of possible damage that may occur, not to mention being stranded. This is my girlfriends truck and I'm not comfortable having her drive too far, especially in the evening. His is inconvenient because we take care of our vehicles, this truck has low miles, 62,000. Would really like to resolve this because we love the trick but cannot trust taking it on trips, towing our boat which was the original purpose of having truck. What a stressful vehicle to have. Very dissatisfied with this truck. Again, the transmission over temp would occur intermittently, on the highway at times, in traffic, small trips, after sitting parked after a short trip, message reappears once truck is started again. No rhyme of reason to this.
When driving on the highway the vehicles engine just stops. Power steering is gone if you have to maneuver out of the way it's very difficult when decelerating it seems to down shift very hard like going form 4th to 1st the dash lights flash randomly when ever they feel like it. I've been thru 3 fan speed controls fir the heater this has been happening for the last 2 years.
N23 recall performed prior to purchasing used Jeep Commander. A week after purchasing I receive a "service 4wd" message and am unable to to use 40. Chrysler dealer has flashed fdcm which corrected the issue for several days, however the service 4wd has come back on. The service 4wd appears on startup nearly every time.
When driving my Jeep Commander it stalls. It happens when I am stopped and try to go or when I slow down then try and accelerate. My life has been at risk when this happens. One of the times I was driving on the interstate going 65mph and it stalled. I am extremely upset about this especially since I have a 2 year old son that is in the car with me.

When your driving it it would jerk then on the 4-25-15 at 9 pm I was driving home with my two month old grandson going up the hill I was pushing on the gas it would not move I hate to think if I was on a highway would I be alive today if it stopped on a hill like I said it could have anywere .
I was driving on the express way do 70 mph and we hit a bump and the Jeep lost all power. It shut right off. Thank fully we were in the outside lane and could get pulled over. The check engine light came on. Once we got pulled over we shut the key off and started it back up and it was fine. But the check engine light stayed on. There has been a recall on the ignition switch since June of 2014 and the dealership keeps telling me they don't have the parts. This is my only vehicle and I have a child and do not want to drive it now.
My Jeep acts as if I turned the ignition off while going down the road. Today it did it again going down the highway at 65-70 mph. I have no additonal keys on the key chain. My seat is slid back and there was no contact with my knee and the ignition switch. I have a 2006 Jeep Commander and have complained about this since 2007. There is a current recall (p41 / NHTSA 14v-438), that I was finally notified about by my dealer a year ago but there are still no parts available to fix the problem. How long should a known safety issue be allowed to go on without a fix. Should we wait for someone to get into an accident and die?.

The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Vehicle loses ignition power when driving at various speeds. Dash cluster warning lights flash multiple times. Speedometer, tachometer, fuel, temp gauges fall to zero point. Steering becomes difficult/inoperable. Vehicle will sometimes regain power. Recall related to ignition switch has been open since September 3, 2014. Manufacturer has not issued any solution/remedy. Manufacturer has suggested "removing extra keys/keychains from ignition key and avoid bumping the ignition key with knees. " this is not a remedy. The problem still occurs. This is dangerous. Safety recall n23. I took this vehicle in for the recall in April 2014. I was told the recall had already been performed & no work was needed. They could not give me a date of the previous update for this recall. So the recall was performed on my vehicle at some time. Now I have a constant error flashing "service 4wd system. " this vehicle also has no working 4wd low. I feel this is a direct result of the software update that was used for this recall. I do not feel that a software update will correct a cracked or damaged circuit board.
As I driving down the highway I can be going between 40-60 mph and if I let off the gas and just coast and then give it gas again its like it is in neutral and it continues to do this until the car is going 20 mph or under and it is very dangerous it has caused me to almost have several wrecks and I have 5 kids which were with me in the car each time this has happened to me something needs to be done!.
While driving at 45 mph the vehicle just turned off. There is a faulty ignition switch recall but Chrysler will not do anything to help get this repaired. I received a recall notice and contacted them but they will not get back to me about repair. This 2006 vehicle is being driven by my daughter who is 19 years old and away at college. Unfortunately my vehicle is a 2007 Jeep Commander and has the same recall therefore I can't even give her my vehicle to drive since it is unsafe as well. At the very least Chrysler should repair these vehicle pronto! in the interim they should provide a safe vehicle for my daughter to drive.
My car cut out at 65 mph in heavy traffic. I lost my power brakes and steering. Additionally I lost my airbags. This is the 12th time this has occurred. I called Jeep and asked for a loaner or rental till this is resolved because there is no fix and they said they would not. I have nothing on my key ring that could have caused this problem and my knee is 8 inches from the ignition so I know I did not bump it with my knee. Jeep will not work with me and state it is safe to drive and I should be careful and try not to hit any bumps.

Vehicle seem to loose power while cruising at or around 45 mph or when engages 4th gear. Rpm's drop really quick from 3500 to almost 1500 rpm's in matters of second. Increasing the risk of a rear end collision if trying to overtake another vehicle or driving up hill, dealer can't find problem. Problems happens every time under any weather condition.
Everytime I drive my Jeep it stalls and the wheel locks up (basically turns into manual steering) and my brakes lock up ( no brakes at all) and I had just bought this Jeep a wk go from mcgee Chevrolet in raynham MA. The first night I drove it home it stalled pulling in to the driveway. I called the dealership the next morning to tell them and they wouldnt take the Jeep til the following wk to look at it they came up with every excuse in the world. When I brought the Jeep in today they had me sign a deductible of 100 dollars but yet when I first test drove the Jeep it I told them to fix it but all they did was cleared the codes (flashed the computer) now I have a rejection sticker on the vehicle and no car.
While traveling on an expressway in central michigan, I was using the cruise control to maintain a speed of 75 mph. With no warning at all, the mechanical components of the vehicle shut down, leaving my Jeep "dead in the highway". I was able to steer and brake, but the vehicle would not respond to acceleration by pressing the gas pedal. I pulled off to the shoulder, luckily without incident. Turned the key to the "off" position and waited about 10 seconds. I turned the key to the "on" position and it started back up. I cautiously drove at a considerably slower speed until I was able to get to a rest stop. When I got to my destination I found a local auto parts store and had them do a diagnostic check. It showed a maf sensor gone bad. Mass air flow sensor was replaced. Hoping that was the issue, after several days, my family and I headed back home on the other side of the state. While driving about 60 mph with cruise control, there were no issues. I figured the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, I was wrong. As I reached the highway where the speed limit is 70 mph, I accelerated to 70 mph with the cruise control. As soon as I broke the 70 mph point, the car mechanically stalled again as I was trying to merge onto the busy highway. Again, luckily, I made it safely to the shoulder and restarted. I was able to exceed 70 mph on the way home without using the cruise control. Concerned for my pregnant wife, toddler son, and my own safety, as this happened on a busy highway at a high rate of speed; with no warning lights or sounds.
Braking to approach a red light at an intersection the brakes felt mushy followed by complete loss of power. I was stopped in the inside lane of a 4-lane hwy at an intersection without power!. After a moment of panic. . . . Thank heavens no oncoming traffic behind me. . . . I put the car into park and restarted the engine. I traveled two blocks to where I could safely exit the hwy and park. After a few minutes while I calmed down I proceeded to drive the vehicle to my home. Since that time I have tried to get the vehicle in for a check but cannot get an appoitment until August. It has been a few days and I have no choice but to use the vehicle. I have noted some missing and hesitating from time to time but not complete failure. However, I would not take this vehicle on an open hwy as it is performing right now.
After n23 recall was updated 4l will not work. Service 4wd system message appears.

My Jeep had an n23 recall performed at park Jeep in burnsville, mn. After the recall was performed, the four wheel drive system low range became inoperable. A message appears on the dash: 'service four wheel drive'. I notified the dealer about his issue. They performed some reprogramming that they said would fix the issue. This reprogramming did not work, as the issue has returned, and my four wheel drive system is not operating as expected. I notified Jeep customer service, and they have no solution for this problem. The dealer has no solution for this problem. About 500,000 grand cherokees and Commanders that have this four wheel drive system are affected. No one can guarantee that it will not affect normal operation of the vehicle. And no one knows what the system can do in traffic on it's own without warning to the driver of the vehicle. The n23 recall performed by my Jeep dealer has created this problem, and it needs to be addressed by the manufacturer now. Chrysler/Jeep needs to provide a proper repair so that the owners of these vehicles can count on their Jeeps to perform as they were represented to perform when purchased, and with the knowledge that the vehicle will perform in a safe manner with no unexpected limitations or actions as they are driven on the public roads. Search on the internet will show scores of links to this n23 recall created problem, and Chrysler/Jeep's lack of action on this issue. This needs action now.

In park started back up drove home. Took Jeep to al serra,s the 29 th got it back 6/2/14 found no reason why it shut down. June 15 th when driving on bristol road at 45 mph it quit again, took it back to al serra,s 2days later got it back, still couldn't find cause.
I had the n23 update done and now I do not have 4 wheel drive - thanks Chrysler another screw up and you won't fix it.

I had parked my Jeep on a hill I got out and walked about 20 feet in back of the Jeep and all of a sudden I hear a sound of movement and I saw the Jeep moving down the hill I was able to run fast enough to get into the Jeep and pull the parking brake which stopped it. I forgot about the recall that was on it with the final drive controller module I had called the Jeep dealer to tell them that were I live they don't have the proper software to complete the repair in any shop. I live on the island of kodiak ak. They said they were working on getting this software to a repair shop hear however after I didn't hear from them for six months I called back and they told me that they couldn't help me and I had to take my Jeep to them on the mainland. I can't afford to ferry my Jeep to the mainland and then stay over there until they can repair it then ferry it back. So now I have experienced this situation which could of ended differently then it did I am thankful no one was hurt.
