My 2006 Jeep Commander driver side seat belt wont latch. I have to hold down the red release button to force it to engage. Seven days later the passenger seat belt wouldn't latch. This time even if I force the latch to engage by holding down the red release tab, it does not turn off the seat belt warning alarm. This most certainly is a recall item and so many of us are having the same problem at the same time. I am going to report also to daimler/Chrysler.
3rd row seatbelt, passenger side, will not come out and cannot be used. 2nd row seatbelts have deteriorated to needing replacement.
I was 270 miles away from home when the passenger side seatbelt would not lock. I brought it into the local Jeep dealership to inquire if there was some easy fix or if they had a part on hand. They informed me that they could in fact have the part the following day. I had to return to work the next day so that was not going to be an option. The part I was told would be a little over $300 for parts and labor. After some research I discovered that this seems to be a problem with my year of vehicle. My passenger had to ride the way home in the back seat. Not exactly ideal. Considering the fact that the seatbelt is quite possibly the most effective safety device of any vehicle I can not imagine Jeep not putting out a recall for the safety of its consumers. I understand the concept of warranty on a vehicles engine, but a seatbelt is not something I would think needs replacement. Not everyone has money to pay for this fix, nor should they be asked to pay for this serious defect that could be the difference between life and death. I love my vehicle I just expect more concern from the company that made it.
The passanger selt belt does not latch. You have to hold down the red press button to latch. Once latched the seat belt alarm continues to chime like is does not reconize the seat belt is latched. It's annoying but at the same time concerned if the seat belt is working properly. After researching on line there are several compliants and this should be consider a recall.
My 8 year old niece was buckling her seatbelt in the third row when the locking mechanism of the seat belt broke off in her hand. What would have happened in (god forbid) an accident? it sure wouldn't have restrained her!.
Having front seat belt issues. They both don't lock properly. I have to hold down the red release button to lock them and now the computer does not reconize them as being locked and the seat belt warning light stays on and it chumes all the time and does not stop. Is there a recall for this because I see a lot of complaints for this issue. Is there an easy fix for this and can it be turned off. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the driver's side seat belt failed to properly secure the contact. The vehicle was not taken the dealer nor was the manufacturer notified. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000. The VIN was not available. Mah.
The driver side seat belt buckle stopped functioning properly over a couple of weeks. It was hard to engage the belt then it stopped recognizing the belt was buckled and the warning continually came on. Passenger side is now doing same. I had driver's buckle replaced at a whopping cost of approx. $400.
My Jeep Commander driver and passenger seat belts do not lock into place correctly. To get them to lock you have to press and hold in the red release button, then to unlock the seat belt you have to press the red release button. Now as of November 22, 2012 the passenger seat belt is hard to lock into place even when pushing the button. The alarm goes off as if it is not engaged and the light on the dash lights up and chimes continuously. I called Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 on November 26, 2012 and was told that there are no recalls. I was told I would have to take it in and pay for a diagnostic and then call back and maybe something can be done. She gave me a reference number, but said that she is still closing the case. When this happened I looked online and found many complaints for the exact same issue. This is a serious safety hazard and should be handled properly by Chrysler since it is a defect. I hardly even drive this car and have had older cars which I drove more often that never had any issues. With this same vehicle I had to deal with the stall issues for several months before it was fixed. Every time I took it to the dealership I was told that they would have to have it happen while they have it to diagnose it. I have had a wrangler in the past too that had problems.
Second roll seatbelt plastic red caseing around the release button broke first on passenger side replaced that one then on drivers side this caused seatbelts to unbuckle easily with a slight tug of belt very dangerous with small children.
The 2nd row seat belts are unable to latch properly. Now 4 seat belts in Jeep do not latch properly. This is a major safety hazard and should have a recall. All auto companies should back their product and repair seat belts. Not to mention several of the interior door handles have busted out.
I have a 2006 Jeep Commander, about 6 months after I purchased the used vehicle the 2nd row seat belts locked in to place & won't come out. I can not bring all my children with me and it is a huge safety issue that the seat belts do not work. I saw there was a recall on the 3rd row & feel there should be a recall on the 2nd row as well. The seat belts were not abused & were barely used & not can not be used at all. I am trying to get ahold of daimler Chrysler to get this safety issue fixed but so far have not gotten anywhere. Bottom line this is a safety issue and manufacture defect with the seat belts.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving in inclement weather at approximately 35-45 mph, an elk crashed into the front end of the vehicle. The driver and passenger side air bags both failed to deploy. The passenger seated in the front seat sustained injuries to the back and head. The contact sustained injuries to the neck and back. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the elk did not impact the vehicle in the area of the air bag sensors therefore, the air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that the air bag was defective and that the air bag warning light was illuminated prior to the crashed. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed of the incident. . The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 114,000. Updated 12/12/12 updated 12/21/2012.
Jeep Commander driver and passenger seat belts do not lock into place correctly. To get them to lock you have to press and hold in the red button, then to unlock the seat belt you also have to press the red button. Now in addition, the passenger seat belt when locked into place - the alarm goes off as if the seat belt is not engaged and the dash light also is lit up. Sometimes with multiple lock/unlock attempts the alarm may go off. Often it chimes relentlessly even when seat belt is engaged. Chrysler customer care will not fully replace the defective seat belts even though it is a safety hazard.
I am 5 months pregnant and my driver's side seat belt will not click into the latch easily. I have to literally bang it to get the latch to catch. I am concerned about the safety and intergity of belt especially if in a crash-will it come unlatch? plus, being midway through my pregnancy I am concerned about the other seat belts in the car, especially the one I will be using to carry my child in. I was concerned about a safe car seat now I must be concerned about the seat belt as well!!! my vehicles seat belt warning system will not alert to unclicked belt. It assumes that the belt is latched in place.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the rear seat belts had been cut and destroyed by the rear retractable seat. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 06v037000 (seat belts:rear) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included because it was not built at a plant affected by the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The current mileage was 78,463 and the failure mileage was unknown.
Seat belts gets hung up in door jam door does not retrace.
I am having trouble with my head lights flashing and my dash board flashing on and off and it is very dangerous when it happens at night bcz my lights go on and off making it hard to drive and to focus on the road. My seat belts falling apart and not wanting to latch and is hard to get it apart when it does. Not sure what is going on but any helpful advise would be appreciated.
2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 trail rated.
Recall notice from Chrysler. Took Commander into shop for repair. After 4 hours, technician stated that unable to download program from corporate computer to fix. Need to bring car back later. This is the second time for a recall, and our car has been in there a total of 4 times for safety issues such as broken seat belts. It has been there a number of other visits, starting at 2555 miles, for defective windshield mount, defective gas fill line mount, and defective windshield wiper fluid pump. Previous hazards were handled, but resulted in a good number of days of at least 6 hour services. Now, after 4 hours, this service is not completed and I have to bring the car back again.

I have a car that I owe 18k on that I cannot trade in because of this history it is only worth 8k. Throughout ownership I have had intermittent stalling, constant hesitation in acceleration. Additionally, the rear seat belt has let go and caused my son to hit his face on the back seat. Problems with seat belt latch sliding so that belt will not hook. Cannot see when backing up when my 5 kids are in the car. Tire pressure light comes on often, as does the air bag light. Exterior headlights are tilted so that they look like highbeams. This car is a danger.
I had a warranty on my Jeep and called in about my seats belt in 2008, told the company my rear seatbelts were falling apart and not able to click into place, as well as my 2nd row seat belts the plastic around them are falling off and the belts are not locking. The daimler Chrysler warranty company told me it was not covered under any recall, but this would be a defect in the seat belts not locking into belts clasps and not plastic is coming off, and my kids are coming out of the seatbelts, almost ending up in a wreck back in 2007, rep from warranty said there was nothing that could be done I would have to pay for seatbelts to be looked at. I am unable to securely put my kids in the back seats now. I am researching recalls now and seen I can make a formal complaint.
We own a 2006 Jeep Commander that has been a problem from the first month we owned it. The first incident occurred when my wife and 3 children were driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off at 65 mph. The vehicle has consistently experienced the same challenge at low and high speeds. In addition, we have experienced similar issues as other owners such as; transmission noises and slippage, electrical system failures, excessive break noise, break wear, excessive cracking in windshield, seatbelt failure, window leaks, stereo replacement and more! in the last 9 months this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair more than 6 times for similar issues. The dealer, as with other customers has claimed they "can't replicate the problem. . . " and sent us on our way. I have now embarked upon having the vehicle bought back by the manufacturer and will also begin a formal legal case to ensure other owners receive retribution. This car is dangerous and the manufacturer is aware of these problems, you are not crazy and the dealers are covering it up!.
My 2006 Jeep Commander (4. 7 liter) constantly stalls and hesitates and the dealer keeps telling me they can't find anything wrong but there are hundreds of complaints online about the same thing and I want to know why this has not been recalled. Also the third row seat belts seem to have a problem.
2006 4. 7 v8 Jeep Commander has had multiple problems, the most severe being 3 (out of 7) inoperable seatbelts and sporadic stalling of the vehicle. The first 8 - 10 times the vehicle stalled (went dead), I was at a stopped position attempting to accelerate. The most recent incident happened as I was driving in traffic. I lost all power steering and brakes when the vehicle died. I was going up a slight incline which assisted me in stopping and I put the vehicle in neutral and restarted. I have refused to drive the vehicle since that time out of safety concerns for my children and for others on the road. The dealership has attempted to correct the problem on 4 occasions - nothing has worked. The Chrysler corporation refuses to buy-back the vehicle because the dealership has not duplicated the problem in the shop. I have witnesses to the occurrences and have documented each time it has happened.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander 4x2. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 06v037000 (seat belts), 08v203000 (power train), and 14v438000 (electrical system). The parts needed to do the repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
